It wasn't cheap in context. I worked at Wendy's during the glory years of their value $1 menu. I rarely bought food even with my discount because a meal was an hour or more of pay. Wages were so low until about 10 years ago.
I worked at BK in '98 for six months. They must've added that cheese and onion sandwich after I left. I didn't eat BK for quite a while after leaving. That Chk'n Crisp she ordered at 3:15 was SO good. It was a small value size sandwich. It just included a little mayo and 2-3 pickle slices. Their current small round chicken sandwich doesn't taste the same. I'd never tried pickle on a chicken sandwich before Chk'n Crisp. Now I wouldn't order one anywhere without them. I also miss their grilled chicken sandwich. It changed names a lot before they finally dropped it altogether. When I worked there, it was called the BK Broiler. It has the grilled taste on the outside and came with lettuce, mayo, and tomato. I would also have them add cheese and pickle. Then, dipped in ranch while eating....the best.
Wow, I didn't realize how diverse the BK menu was back then. I always was a McDonald's kid and when I got BK - of course I always got a whopper or whopper jr. Thanks for sharing the great memories.
