Sensei Shigeru Oyama in Scarade NY. I mistakenly commented on another video with Oyama but in a different DOJO. This was my DOJO and I am proud to have been trained by him. A consumate Master.
No snake, when "Soshu" would "beat us with the shinai" it was a good thing, lol! Used as a tool to push you threw the pain, so to speak. When u sit in zazen for extended periods your feet start to hurt. So sometimes the instructor would wack you on the shoulder to not concentrate on the pain in your foot. SHIGERU OYAMA was/is the greatest instrutor i have ever had. He took me to to japan twice, holland and england. Like my japanese father, OSU!!
Those were the days, I started in the early 1980's under Shihandai Richard Wolicki. Saiko Shihan Shigeru Oyama would train us as well as he was the head Shihan. I remember all of them plus the Senseis would use the Shinai, on all students including myself. It was espically used during Kata training like Sanshin Kata Shigeru Oyama was a superb trainer I vouch for that as he also trained, tested and promoted me. He methods of training are self proven effective and he was truly professional, all he could tell what a student needed and would correct students and improve them. The others who commented here on the positive effects of his methods using shinai etc are fact. Those with out if place negative comments. Do not have no understanding on how Real Maritial art trading is to be conducted. The Shinai was a needed part if Real Karate training. There is nothing bad negative or manevlent here. My only revert was that Shigeru split as well as others from Kyokushinkai and Konsho Mas Oyama. OSU!
Remember when we fight we are getting hit, so this not only prepare the fighter to keep focus on the fight but it also give some motivation because in a fight we will get hit a lot more and harder.
Un entraînement comme je les aimes! Malheureusement, plus personnes n'enseignent comme ça de nos jours. L'esprit guerrier a disparu des dojos, aujourd'hui les arts martiaux sont devenus plus ludique et le côté business prédomine au détriment du vrais esprit martial.

Mr. Joko Ninomiya left with his Sensei Mr. Hideyuki Ashihara Shihan when he formed Ashihara Karate. Then Mr. Ninomiya Kancho would found his own style called Enshin Karate plus sponsor the Sabaki Challenge. Thank you for posting this clip. Osu

TheJtk333 That is Sensei Eddie Frazier (Shihan now), one of Shoshu's top students, who he is being partial to there. Sensei Frazier was my instructor when I started Kyokushin training in NY in 1982 and was until I moved away in 1999. We are still in touch regularly though and I'm still training and teaching all these years later. Osu.
I swear to God am gonna kill the sensei for whipping me like this,does he want to kill me,just kidding nice training, but judo would still put u in check with all this your hardcore training
Where are dojo's like this anymore? I really wish I could train like this with a master like that.
