    In 1995, I saw them at a small venue with guy I was dating at the time and two of our friends. We had front row balcony seats. The show ended, we walked to the car and began to make the hour plus drive home. Twenty minutes into the car ride, I couldn't take our literal silence anymore and busted out, "OK, so is anyone going to say anything about what we just witnessed??!!!" 😂😂 I've been to a ton of concerts since and I've never seen or heard anything like it ...it was a spiritual experience...only way to describe it. I'm so happy you got to experience what only other Tool fans can understand! ❤️🤘❤️

      Even more incredible than a TOOL show is when I witnessed Pink Floyd "The Wall" shows in 1980. That show had people bewildered and wondering what they saw. I'm excited to see TOOL in Dallas at the end of the month. Glad you saw them in a small venue, that's awesome.

    • @AylaRose
      @AylaRose 2 года назад +4

      @@markrobertdevison1227 Yes...small venue shows are almost always worth it! It was just so funny to be with three people, who were just as stunned into silence as I was...even after I broke the ice...we still didn't say much on the car ride...lol...I'm sure Pink Floyd was similar (very jealous you got to see that tour btw!) in that sometimes, if we are lucky, live music transcends into art and that is a pretty personal experience.
      I can't imagine not having a "moment" like that when seeing The Wall!

    • @markrobertdevison1227
      @markrobertdevison1227 2 года назад +3

      @@AylaRose The Wall shows were super unique out of the 300 + concerts I have attended in that no one was out walking in the hallways. It was super silent during the show. There was no one yelling or screaming or even cheering. It was the different than any show I've seen, even TOOL. Once the wall was completed and we could not see the band, we all just looked around bewildered. When Roger Waters did his Wall tour from 2010-2013, it was similar but not quite like seeing the actual four members of Pink Floyd together performing. Anyway, keep going to concerts and I'm glad you loved the TOOL show. I cant wait to see them the 31st in Dallas.

    A tool concert is what I believe a church goer is supposed to feel like at worship.
    Knowing that you're surrounded by thousands of people with YOUR same energy, everybody there with the common purpose of furthering their knowledge base, pushing their horizons, and reaching for new experiences.
    The energy at a Tool concert is like a fleeting moment of feeling connected to everything, and you leave feeling as if you just had some sort of intense spiritual experience.
    It's absolutely incredible, and I'm super happy you got to go to one of their shows??

    I am a HUGE fan of the "no record" policy. Seeing hundreds (or thousands) of phone zombies just kinda ruins the experience for me. I'm at a concert to feed off the energy of the band & the crowd. And if the crowd is just standing around & holding up their phones then there's no energy. You should be pumping your fists in the air, jumping around, getting into the mosh pit, screaming your lungs out & shouting the lyrics.....who has time for recording on your phone with all that going on?
    Not to mention 1) I don't know anyone who is like "I wanna see some cellphone footage of a concert where you're 1500 feet away from the stage & the sound quality sounds like shit". Now if you're in the front few rows & can get some AMAZING shots of the band then I can understand. Who wouldn't want a badass photo/video of Maynard screaming into the mic or something like that? 2) The lasers used at concerts can actually damage your camera...they can burn out the lens.
    And honestly, I remember concerts from 30 years ago with such great detail that I don't need a shitty "home video" of it to remind me. And I remember them so vividly because I was a million % into the show & wasn't messing around with a camera or noticing I had notifications from TikTok & Twitter.

    That "roar" that you spoke of in between the songs, that's exactly the way crowds used to be at rock concerts in the '70's and 80's. For some reason that's not the way crowds are these days; they tend to cheer immediately at the end of the song and then it starts to die off, but I vividly remember all the concerts I went to 35-40 years ago where that cheering went on consistently between every song, regardless of who the performer was on the stage. It says a lot about a band that can exact that type of reaction out of people these days.

    So glad to have you on this journey. I have had the TRUE privilege of seeing them 7 times in my life. Not ONE time have I been disappointed. Have they always been at the same level? Nah, as a matter of fact, seeing them at the tail end of a tour, you feel the energy is a little different, especially with Maynard, you can tell he gets a little tired vocally, but the EXPERIENCE is still absolutely top-tier and the effort is the best you know they can give you at that moment.
    But I think the guys are very rested right now and they're just at the top of their game right now, so anyone seeing them on the first leg of this tour is seeing them at their absolute peak! And their visual presentation right now is the best its ever been.
    So glad you enjoyed!

    ITS ALL YOUR FAULT JAMAL! Saw my 1st Tool show last night, cuz when you said that you were going...I went and got tix here in SD! Good seats too. Um, OMG! Blew my Dead Head mind away! Not an easy thing to do, as you well know. (~):) "Overwhelmed with greatness, every song was like a gift" YES. Love the review, you captured it perfectly, because I am speechless yes, still in shock this morning, yes...I agree with everything you said, 10 thumbs up, yes. Besides the incredible music and visuals, other things I especially loved --> almost everyone was on their feet rocking out the entire show --> there was NO ocean of cell phones recording, not until the very end --> The countdown during the break, I've never seen that before, and exactly when it reached 0, the lights went down and they began again. Trippy! --> FINDING the lead singer was like Finding Waldo or Finding Nemo. Once I found him I was fascinated, this was so very upside down, wrong side out, and backwards from any other band I've ever seen. He roamed behind the band, from side to side, a shadow in the background. He was not front and center, no spotlight. THANK YOU JAMAL!

    I was at the very last concert they held in Portland, OR the night before Oregon went into lockdown and shows were canceled. On the way home that night all of us on the train were celebrating our good luck that we got to see them before the pandemic got real. It was just as epic as your description of seeing them for the first time, but I have been a fan since the 90s and have been fortunate to see them a number of times and the way they have built up this incredible next gen concert experience has been great to see over the years.

    Saw Tool for the first time last Thursday in Denver. Been listening to them for 20 years, but I share your feelings of oh my god…
    Eventually I realized the word to describe the experience: I was “tenderized” by the music and the whole performance and lights, like what happens to a skirt steak you pound out with that spiky hammer. But no pain, this was pure flabbergasted enjoyment. Later I thought of the image of the music being the water coming over Niagra Falls and if you were in one of those little boats that go near the falls, what it would feel like if the boat went into the waterfall. The concrete my seat was bolted into was moving.
    And the visuals, so freaky awesome. Thank you Tool, and thanks AKA Jamal for your review, loved it!

      What's up fellow C-lander ?!! I saw TOOL in the early 00's at Gund Arena (loooooong before it was ever "the Q" or the "RoMoFiHo") and MAAAAAAAAAAN it changed my life!! 100% unequivocally the show by which I now judge all other shows by, and thus far, no other concert can hold a candle to it. The only other band who even came close, based on their incredibly theatrical performances (also i'm extremely biased cuz I'm a huge fan of them also, and I've easily seen a dozen+ times) is Mushroomhead... Being from Cleveland, I would imagine your hip to them, if not you're missin out! I haven't seen them since all the drastic lineup changes, last time was probably 2015 or 2016, and from what I hear the chemistry isn't the same and the energy is missing from the live experience, but damn it used to be dope! I really enjoyed hearing you explain a TOOL concert. I lost count of how many of their shows I’ve seen since 1993. Every tour always takes the experience to another level for sure. My first TOOL show in 93 was at a beat old warehouse in San Diego. They didn’t have any visuals, only lights from the venue. Back then, Maynard used to freak out on stage at times and do really wild and weird moves and at other times he just stood and stared at something or someone in the distance looking as if he were looking through someone. Those guys are such incredible musicians that even back in the day with no video or custom lighting, their live performances blew people away. There will probably never be another band like TOOL ever. I’m stoked that you saw one of their most visual shows of their career.
