    Tron is my all time favorite arcade game. It is the reason why I never went to college. My mom gave me money to apply (like $15 lol) and I used it to play Tron lol. Does it feel like an arcade one--i.e. the spinner, etc? Thanks for the video. I had a chance to buy a real Tron around 30 years ago for $200 still kicking myself for not getting it lol.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  4 года назад

      LOL, yeah $15 won't get you too far in college. I used this with RetroPie on a Raspberry Pi and it worked really well. The Tron stick only has 1 button, so you won't be able to use it very easily with discs of Tron without hardware modifications. The spinner works great as well as the stick for the original Tron game. Very similar to the Arcade. Hope I answered all your questions! Keep in mind, you will need a 3D printer or access to one to build this. You could also use it with a computer instead of a Pi if you want.

    I have my Spinner and Tron joystick on order and have started printing all the case pieces (my first 3d prints of the new year) in a lovely Tron blue. I see MiSTer just added MCR2&3 games (including Tron), so I can't wait to get started assembling all the pieces. But I have one question: What about Discs of Tron? It's my favorite 80s arcade game, it's the one game I always seek out at California Extreme, and the environmental cabinet is at the top of my "if I ever get the space, I would buy in a heartbeat" list. Is there a way to support the up/down spinner mechanism for Discs of Tron?

    Hi Wagner! Great vid, as always. Like I said in another comment (your other vid), I'm doing an Arcade 1 UP Tron conversion and just got the GRS Tron stick. Do you think it's possible to bypass the encoder he included and use another aftermarket usb encoder instead? The connectors for the buttons included with Glen's stick look so foreign, and he doesn't explain that part in his vid. He also doesn't respond to comments asking for help which is sad and makes me feel like he just cares about the money and not his customers. :(

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  4 года назад +1

      I've only used his encoder with mine, so I'm honestly not sure. Please give Glen some grace, he works in the medical industry and they are being hammered. He's also juggling trying to get the Star Wars Yokes ready for shipment, so I know he's got a lot on his plate. I've not spoken with him in about a week but I know he's stretched very thin. I'm sure he'll answer when he can. I can assure you, it's not about the money with him. He's just about selling his parts at cost.
      Unless there is a reason not to use the included encoder, I would stick with it. If it were me selling it, I wouldn't be able to support any encoders not supplied by me. You never know what kind of quality they are, adequate voltage, etc. or figure out the wiring for all the encoders that are on the market. Not something one person could support. JMHO

      Wagner's TechTalk Thanks for the feedback! I can understand that; it’s just a bit frustrating having unanswered questions for months now... but there IS a pandemic going on, lol! Okay second question: Is it possible to use two usb encoders for one player? For example, I use Glen’s encoder solely for the stick and plug that into one Pi 4 usb port and for my other buttons, use another usb encoder to plug into the second usb port on the Pi 4?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  4 года назад +1

      Certainly! That's how I use it on my console. I built an OpenCADE with a spinner, trackball and joystick (Joystick and buttons are using their own encoder connected via USB, Spinner+trackball to the 12-in-1 encoder,). Then, plug in the Tron stick (as a separate console) when I want to play Tron. Granted, I don't have it enclosed in a cabinet, but there is no difference at all. You may also want to get a powered USB hub in your cab to make sure that you have sufficient voltage to all of your connections. Hope that helps!

      I assume your using an old PC, if so yes it will work as long as it has a USB port on the computer. In that case, you won't need the 3d printed case described in this video, but you would need the other parts (interface board+spinner and/or the Tron Flight Stick). All depends on what you want on your cabinet. The 12-in-1 interface board is only needed if you want to use the spinner or a trackball. If you want just the Tron flight stick, everything you need is included in that package.

      Interesting, Thinkiverse once had an option where you can order it printed but not seeing it either. Some local libraries have 3D printers and can print stuff for you. I'm not equipped to print these for folks, may be good to check with local 3D printing groups or friends that could print it for you. I don't offer these for sale, I only design the models and let anyone print them. You can find good prices on printers, may be less hassle to pick up a printer. It's not hard to learn how to print an existing model and so much fun!

      You could start with this 1:6th scale Build-A-Cade for all the components needed: wagnerstechtalk.com/grs-bacv1 . They are on sale for $50. Then, scale it up, if you want. Only thing missing in this kit is the Single Board Computer (SBC), but they are easy enough to find and inexpensive.
      Perhaps pickup 2, one for the original scale and a 2nd to integrate into a half-scale. Just a thought, you would need to build a new cabinet, larger display and custom controls or you may find 1:6th scale works for you too with the Panel POD (external controls).

      Not necessarily. You may have other options. 1) Many local libraries have 3d printers that can be used, you'd have to check with yours to see. 2) There is an option on the thingiverse page to "Buy this Printed" though, the cost of them doing it for you may get close to the cost of buying your own printer (I've never used these services myself). 3) Maybe you have a friend/family member with one that wouldn't mind printing it for you if you supply the printer filament. But, 3D printers have gotten fairly cheap (

    T-Sticks GRS Tron stick DOES NOT come with an encoder board and isn't even compatible with their own controller board. It should be illegal for T-Sticks to use videos like this to falsely advertise their products.
    Stop lying and just tell people they need an encoder board and adapter.
    Watching this video cost me over $60.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Год назад

      Back when I purchased/reviewed this product, about 4 years ago, the encoder was included with the package. Over time, products change and many already had encoder boards and it became an unnecessary expense. The price was dropped for the kit and the encoder no longer being shipped. I'll add a pinned post to make that clear for others in the future. Everything in this video was honest and true, at the time it was created.

      @@WagnersTechTalk You do realize that T-sticks has this video embedded on their website to sell this stick?
      Also not only does it not include an encoder board, it doesn't include a wiring harness, mounting bolts with nuts to tighten them or anything to even hook this up to an encoder board.
      They rely on your video to mislead customers into thinking everything is included.
