Back in the late 1960's the late Howard Heitmeyer arranged this for Ted McKown who was a flamenco teacher at Jose Oribe's shop in Inglewood, California. It have really made the rounds over the years.
Thank you so much for your comment! Glad you enjoyed the video :) I actually started in my early 20s. I also have students who have started in their 50s. It’s never too late!
Yes this stretches can be pretty challenging. One thing that could help a lot is to roll your barre finger a little towers your thumb instead of planting it squarely on the strings. This should help you reach further with the 4th finger. I also recommend practicing those stretch sections with a capo on the 2nd or 3rd fret and work your way down as each capo position feels more comfortable.
Help! I can’t get this past 90 bpm. If I try to play faster my fingers get lost and I forget dynamics and accuracy. What would you suggest? Move on to a new song or stick with it. Thanks
There are a few strategies you can use to build speed. One is to pick small sections of music (esp. where you’re experiencing challenges) and set the metronome to an easy tempo. Then work the metronome up by 5-10 BPMs until you reach a speed where you start making mistakes. Then click down by 1s until you reach a speed where you do not make mistakes. Keep doing this and your final speed will begin to increase. Just make sure to not overplay. Don’t spend too much time doing this and make sure to take LOTS of breaks to prevent injury. Also, make sure to play with as little physical effort as possible. Note-grouping is another strategy that I like. It’s a bit complicated to write but if you’d like to try a lesson I’d love to help you. Please reach out to me: DiegoAlonsoMusic.com. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, I cannot help you with an actual guitar but I’m very happy to continue helping with these videos. There will be more instructional videos coming as well as videos on expert practice strategies.

I've been playing for years but I would guess that the teacher started before 10 years old to develop such dexterity?

Really appreciate the lesson. Couple of big stretches there at times. Any advice to tackle them?

Really feel like if you wanted to you could throw a few rasquedos into the strumming parts and make it more flamenco...
