  • In the video we start the tunnel dig from my existing underground bunker to my house. Distance to dig horizontally is 40ft.

      Those trugs are so bloody handy.
      I've mixed concrete in them, shifted soil in them, used them to hold muddy water in, and they just keep going... as long as you don't try to pick them up when full using the handles.

    The magic comes in the spontaneous idea, the mystery, the adventure into the unknown, with no plan, and just winging it. A bit of "Let's just do it." is what makes this so alluring.

      @@Tornado_Dave as long as your 'structure' can hold up 3-4 tons it should be fine-ish, at least it'd be a safely slow collapse.

    The peripheral projects are amusing and kinda impressive in the imagination of repurposing.
    The main tunnel project is terrifying, I'm garenteed going to have tunnel collapse nightmares now!
    Have you done your sums on the tunnel shuttering and the potential stresses it's under?

    Need a conveyor system or a screw type auger to move the dirt to the surface. Or a large vacuum system.

    I would definitely want something a bit more substantial as shoring.
    Some old miners i used to know told me tales about metal pit props. Trouble with metal is it gives no warning before it gives up. Wood props creak and groan and fail somewhat more gracefully.
    Is there a way you could add some wooden supports inside the metalwork, or would it make the tunnel too tight?

    You’ll probably never read this but, have you thought about using a vacuum to move all that soil? Obviously it would have to be a very powerful 1

      @@Tornado_Davethe amount of hours you’ll gain if you can mechanically move it out of your way, 1 of those if you had 30 men moving buckets of soil out of your way and 10 people digging you’d at your house in hours 🤓

    Hope you don’t meet an underground stream, like when my father when he dug out his pit in the garage. It ran the full length, and the only way we stopped it. My uncle required a British rail tarpaulin 😊😅 which stopped the water

      It would be more useable full height but I think this idea will be good when the full project is complete as I have big plans now :)

      Such a small tunnel that you can only crawl through is going to get old FAST. I'd just dig it full height so you can walk through it to start with, otherwise I think it's just going to be wasted effort

    Question did you concrete around the first section of the bunker when you first built it or no? Won’t it rust?

      If you watch the video on it, it is a shipping container upside down, painted with bitumen. The Section I have cut out is showing no signs of corrosion so all seems good. The roof is concreted and the end where the doors were. I presume it will rust away eventually but we are talking along time in the future and I will have built it bigger before then I’m sure :)

    your digging in a well when ground water rises you be flooded out

      Yes but after monitoring it for 10 years it is very rare for the water level to get higher than the base of the bunker, and I now have the pump fitted to be safe
