Best way he could of used his bankai is.... ok u know there is a huge amount of quincy foot soliders (which u don't really see much after the start.) Well they find a way for him to get into their strong hold and boom bankai and chaos. Make it important that they need to reduce quincy numbers as much as possible. Heck dont kill off kang and BG9 throw em in quincy jail. So they fight each other we get to see a bit more of them. Then maybe have 1 really strong quincy come in after everyone is taken out to incapacitate him if need be
Shikai works on a 1v1 setting with a strong opponent. Bankai works on a one-man-army scenario against fodder enemies. Shinji says that everything with Sakanade is reversed and scolds it for that.
Not necessarily. I think as far as it’s effectiveness, it’s more similar to Aizen. While it is true he can decimate a crowd on his own, but his allies can just not attack, the or rather move with an evasive maneuver. We just haven’t seen enough in the anime to really conclude his ability. His failures are questionable. Either there is something that hasn’t been revealed like Unohana. My honest opinion… I think he is a potential villain. I’m just not really seeing his authenticity as a trusting character.

He also defended Seretei against the quincies, defended those attacking the soul king, so a villain? Lolwut?
@@Nomimonyo well I never said that he was a weak character. We just don’t know much about him. Kubo actually showed us that it doesn’t matter what team you’re on. Because of his development, I just feel this particular way about him. He doesn’t need anyone, it’s easy for him to do what he wants. Additionally, the soul society is pretty dark. They have killed just as many good guys as the bad. I never said that kubo will do this, but we see such a strong character with a sketchy background.
This Bankai is Insane but it’s also balanced. He can only use it in a really specific situation to avoid friendly casualties. At least some of the Bankai aren’t totally busted.
I like how he deployed it in CFYOW. Being chased by a hoard of powerful Hollows he seems done, tired and battle worn. Then he turns about, wipes away the sweat off his brow and then smiles at his pursuers and unleashes it against them after ridiculing their mindless bloodthirstness. We do not see the battle but those Hollows where certainly wiped out. Shinji is a truly lethal weapon all on his own, his increased ruthlessness caused by all he endured only adds to it.

Thinking about it, we never see a bankai from a current member of the 8th division. We see Kyoraku's bankai, but that's only after he becomes the captain-commander and joins the 1st division
His bankai is a tragic retelling of his story. From when he was hollowfied and sentenced to death by the soul society (Friends -> Enemies) To the end of his story where he works with quincies and hollows against Ywach (Enemies -> Friends)

Gotta admit, Shinji's Bankai is pretty fitting. He comes off as a very morally ambiguous character, and he certainly had that sinister feel when he was first introduced. Kind of fits that his Bankai turns allies into enemies and enemies into allies. Interesting theory about how his Bankai might work in a one-on-one fight. Assuming it's really mind manipulation, it might not be completely useless in a one-on-one fight, but that surprise first strike would probably be vital. It really is interesting how his Shikai and Bankai are perfect foils to each other; it also makes his Hollowification powers a little cooler in retrospect. They can act as one hell of a boost to his Shikai giving him enough power to perhaps match his Bankai. Congrats on the sponsorship! How would it work in a 1v1? The sole ability turns friends to foe and foe to friend, doing so over and over until everyone kills eachother while Shinji remains protected in his Bankai's shell.

Bambietta basically proved to be the weakness of both his Shikai and Bankai: Blowing up literally everything, AND not caring whether you attack friend or foe. God Shinji got hard countered by both Quincy he fought.
I mean, if the Bambies get caught by Shinji's bankai, I'm sure that the flower he has will protect him as Bambietta sends Liliotto, Meninas, Gigi, Candace, and herself into Hell.
Actually a good way to show it in the anime without taking away from the cfyow moment is him activating bankai but our perspective remains in the flower so when its over the audience doesn't know how the sol dat died

Long before I ever knew, fully, who Shinji was, his character design spoke to me & he had been a favourite of mine since. Glad to see a video on him & a great quality video at that; as I’ve come to expect from Tommo!
Always felt slightly ridiculous that despite having three visoreds as captains that the Quincy vulnerability to hollow reiatsu is discovered by the fact that no resurreccions are stolen. Just an issue of rapid manga production I guess. But how cool would it have been for a swarm of Quincy to attack Shinji only to get cut down by his bankai, while a sternritter watches in frustration? Or maybe one of them has to be held back by another and reminded that “he’s one of the ones we can’t”.
This is an awesome video! Shinji is one of my favorite characters, and his shikai and bankai are both top tier for me. Just a suggestion for your future videos: try adding some subtle background music. I think it would engage people more into what you are talking about, as you give your character analysis. Keep up the great work!

One of the many victims that get “insta shitted on” in the series. Never understood why the Visors get owned every time they show up for a serious fight when that theoretically have all this potential power.
Shinji's abilities are really cool, but they kind of fall under the trap of being rather hard to write a fight for. His Shikai could allow him to take out a melee based fighter with ease, but someone like Bambietta, who has an ability that just destroys everything around her, can completely bypass it. While his Bankai, is meant to be practically unusable in a one-on-one fight, and even locks Shinji out of the whole thing while his enemies kill each other. So yeah, kind of hard to write a traditional battle for those kinds of powers. I do really like how it was used in CFYOW, the visual of him taking out a whole army of Vasto Lorde level Hollows, is pretty epic.
@@yanicktodman6771 it's crazy how Kubo says Quincies are weak to hollows, and then proceeds to completely ignore all hollow powers and instead gives hollow pills to the other captains. Hell, Ichigo doesn't even get to use his hollow till Ywach, and we know how that turned out

ome first sponsor!! congrats tom. interestingly, Shinji is the only other person outside of Kenpachi Kuruyashiki who isn't allowed to use Bankai in the soul society. it is interesting on what parameters this is judged. is it just if you have an AOE Bankai like Shinji and Kuruyashiki that makes you elegble? why isn't shunsui on that list? is it just because his Bankai has a smaller range in comparison? what about Yama? he literally could one shot anyone and also limited himself to only ever, Shikai unless the enemy is beyond his Captians, so anything Grade 1 and above. we can also see that Yama uses his Bankai twice in the series. once in the flashback in the first 1000 year blood war, second, and lastly in the 1st invasion. but I guess Yama knows that if he brings his Bankai back out, it will be the last time. so I guess it's technically banned, in a sense. he does say this himself.
Shinji is one of those characters that just gives his opponents upperhand by explaining his abilities I mean, I'd kind of understand why since his abilities completely throws off anyone's senses to a point where even experts have to literally go past their own instincts and quite literally have to reverse their own tactics I love Shinji, but just like Rojuro his ability Shikai suffers from adaptability and his bankai suffers from Team friendly team fights
Another situation I think shinji could have used his bankai could be when nanno defeats Lillie and Lillie falls down the soul society, as the numberous amount of owls, maybe he could have used it agains him.

I think the flower works well with his overall scent based theme. Reminds me if the pyrethrum plant, which has a (touch) based naturel insecticide that makes insects go totally mental for a few seconds after which the drop dead. There probably is a scent based version out there too.
He pisses me off so much cuz he has such a great aesthetic and personality and completely full proof zampakto loadout, but just gets shit on due to plot situations

About the fifth division bankai thing, i might be misremembering but i think renji started in the 5th division and aizen sent him to the 11th a short time after so technically seeing renji's bankai in a way shows us but not really as he isnt a "true" 5th division member

Fun fact, the sword part of Sakanade when shinji is in Bankai now has a loop on both ends of it. Unlike his shikai however, his blade does not have the five holes but instead resembles a regular blade. This art was released in the Brave souls concept art book

Shinji's Bankai is definitely one of the most powerful as far as what the ability does. Even going against strong enemies, it wouldn't matter, unless of course, their ridiculously stronger like only a certain few.

Always felt slightly ridiculous that despite having three visoreds as captains that the Quincy vulnerability to hollow reiatsu is discovered by the fact that no resurreccions are stolen. Just an issue of rapid manga production I guess. But how cool would it have been for a swarm of Quincy to attack Shinji only to get cut down by his bankai, while a sternritter watches in frustration? Or maybe one of them has to be held back by another and reminded that “he’s one of the ones we can’t”.

This is an awesome video! Shinji is one of my favorite characters, and his shikai and bankai are both top tier for me. Just a suggestion for your future videos: try adding some subtle background music. I think it would engage people more into what you are talking about, as you give your character analysis. Shinji's abilities are really cool, but they kind of fall under the trap of being rather hard to write a fight for. His Shikai could allow him to take out a melee based fighter with ease, but someone like Bambietta, who has an ability that just destroys everything around her, can completely bypass it.
While his Bankai, is meant to be practically unusable in a one-on-one fight, and even locks Shinji out of the whole thing while his enemies kill each other. So yeah, kind of hard to write a traditional battle for those kinds of powers.
I do really like how it was used in CFYOW, the visual of him taking out a whole army of Vasto Lorde level Hollows, is pretty epic.

@@yanicktodman6771 it's crazy how Kubo says Quincies are weak to hollows, and then proceeds to completely ignore all hollow powers and instead gives hollow pills to the other captains. Hell, Ichigo doesn't even get to use his hollow till Ywach, and we know how that turned out

interestingly, Shinji is the only other person outside of Kenpachi Kuruyashiki who isn't allowed to use Bankai in the soul society. it is interesting on what parameters this is judged. is it just if you have an AOE Bankai like Shinji and Kuruyashiki that makes you elegble? why isn't shunsui on that list? is it just because his Bankai has a smaller range in comparison? what about Yama? he literally could one shot anyone and also limited himself to only ever, Shikai unless the enemy is beyond his Captians, so anything Grade 1 and above. we can also see that Yama uses his Bankai twice in the series. once in the flashback in the first 1000 year blood war, second, and lastly in the 1st invasion. but I guess Yama knows that if he brings his Bankai back out, it will be the last time. so I guess it's technically banned, in a sense. he does say this himself.

Shinji is one of those characters that just gives his opponents upperhand by explaining his abilities
I mean, I'd kind of understand why since his abilities completely throws off anyone's senses to a point where even experts have to literally go past their own instincts and quite literally have to reverse their own tactics
I love Shinji, but just like Rojuro his ability Shikai suffers from adaptability and his bankai suffers from Team friendly team fights
It's all about certain situations and timings with anyone's bankai. Nothing wrong with that of course

I think the flower works well with his overall scent based theme. Reminds me if the pyrethrum plant, which has a (touch) based naturel insecticide that makes insects go totally mental for a few seconds after which the drop dead. There probably is a scent based version out there too.

About the fifth division bankai thing, i might be misremembering but i think renji started in the 5th division and aizen sent him to the 11th a short time after so technically seeing renji's bankai in a way shows us but not really as he isnt a "true" 5th division member
You’re right but that’s a huge technicality. I wish we got to see someone in currently in the 5th divisions Shinjis bankai animated, or Aizens bankai at all. Fuck it I’ll even take Momos bankai
