I think he was, there was enough to point that. To me Soul King has also been one of the most interesting things about Bleach and I honestly felt it in my stomach a little when I read more about his fate in CFYOW, the imaginary worked little too well in my mind if you know what I mean. Creepy idea.

Honestly I think Gremmy's brain being another remnant of the Soul King makes a lot of sense; especially with how much CFYOW hammered home this idea. The Soul King's disembodied brain having the power to literally warp reality would align nicely with how strong he really was.
Was it ever stated directly that Yhwach gave Gremmy that power? If not, there is that possibility that he is a part of the SK. Pernida and Gerard were said to always have had their power, with the Schrift only being given to sort of acknowledge that power rather than being the source of it. Of course, there's the other reason for the Schrifts too - Yhwach giving them out allows him to take them back later along with the person's power.
Simply put, if he wasn't so benevolent and willing to let the intelligent beings of the world live in the way they wanted to, the original 5 ancestors wouldn't have been able to do a thing to him.
Strong enough to bend reality, causing a group of comparable weaklings imprison him out of ambition and paranoia. Jury is still out as to why he didn't resist, maybe he believed he was truly helping in building a new better world, he certainly saw the future and his eventual freedom in death. Either way regardless of his omnipotence and unknowable power the Spirit King is the ultimate victim of the saga. No wonder anyone who finds out is disgusted and disturbed, developing a radically different view of Soul Society.

Could it be that everything that happens to the Soul King and indeed everything that happens in Bleach is according to the Soul King's plan? That he perhaps even used the power of the Almighty to orchestrate this chain of events because it's the best possible outcome? Aizen would realize that the turns have tabled because he's a pawn in someone else's plans
In the novel CFYOW it is heavily implied that is the case as (SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT READ THE NOVELS STOP HERE) the original 4 nobels scheme to butcher him into the pieces as he is right now but, upon being butchered, the Soul King never resist.
Prime Soul King is the strongest character in the entire series. He's an actual God that split the universe. His AP should scale higher than Yhwach who's going to destroy and create 3 realms (arguably universe sized), Dangai, Muken, and more. And Prime Soul King should be superior to Yhwach.
If I remember right, The Soul King didn't split the universe; the first of what would be the nobel houses of the shinigami did, absent the Shiba along with Ichibei. The Soul King existed to keep the hollows in check when all words were one. The 4 nobel houses and Ichibei chopped up the Soul King severing his arms (which became Mimihagi and Pernida), his legs, and removing his organs (the Soul King's Heart became Gerard Valkyrie), dividing the one realm into Hueco Mundo, The World of the Living, and Soul Society, anchored all 3 to remain apart using The Soul King's mutilated corpse, and set up the cycling of souls between the realms.
The powers of the fullbringers also help demonstrate the sheer amount of power that the soul king possessed. We know they all possess a fragment/nail of the soul king and the most default power they gain from it is manipulating matter. This then extends to fullbringers developing their own unique powers which were all pretty crazy. You have Yukio who can create pocket dimensions where he can create his own rules, Riruka who can transfer souls into and between objects, Tsukishima and putting himself into the past, Giriko's time power though it's not explored much and also Orihime's power to reject phenomenon. All of them can be seen as godly and can basically just be a fraction of what the soul king was capable.
Okay, so hear me out. There is theory. Perfect Almighty eyes don't have 4 but 5 irises. The eyes of soul king are empty because they are lacking iris in the middle of each eye which symbolises his "earthly" consciousness and connection to the present. He is suspended in kinda 4 dimensional void, the past and future at the same time but not exactly in the present. The remaining 1 of each of the irises detached, descended and finally became pair of hogyokus. As manifestation of the soul Kings will and his whole being in the "present" they are working behind the scenes to fulfill soul kings will by leading people's will, giving them insights and non human powers. They have found 2 beings with high potential to realize their goal so they let them be in possession of them but out of 2 finally only aizen was acting in accordance to their will. That's the reason why they both finally found their way to aizen and merged to increase power of their host and help him help them. The reason why aizen transcended is because of that. He basically used soul kings power to do that. Everything was going smoothly but at some point during fight with Ichigo aizen started losing. That's the point where hogyoku became impatient and forced their will onto aizen. His 3 eye is in fact hoguokus eye. Manifestation of hoguokus consciousness, soul kings irises. The eyes in his wings are symbolic way of showing this. Eyes on his wings are the same thing as the eyes on yhwach cloak or mimihagi. Symbolic representation of soul kings power. That is the reason why aizen could crush those black things made from soul kings reiatsu and mess a little with yhwachs power. There is a meme that everything is according to aizen plan. WRONG. Actually everything is according to soul kings plan. Peace.
I posted a theory on the gremmy v zaraki video about how the brain lost so abruptly. I postulated that Brain did have unimaginable power, but lacked the experience in battle (non imaginative ideas like lava) and lacked endurance from not using powers often (like a person who trains more can keep going longer). Anatomically, the brain uses lots of energy via glucose. What if, Brain in the soul king had the experience and endurance to create dimensions. But once the Soul Society split him up, and Brain gained sentience to imagine a body, it lost its endurance and experience by being locked up. Over the course of the battle Brain gained experience faster than endurance, needing more and more energy and the endurance just couldn't keep up, ultimately resulting in a stroke or aneurysm that killed Brain/Gremmy. Given enough time and training, maybe Gremmy could have had power closer to the Soul King
What if Soul King could actually escape the prison the whole time but he chose not to do it because its the best thing to do for the best future outcome?
This would make sense, and is supported by the fact that he ended up in the prison in the first place. He could be reasonably expected to have just chosen not to get "imprisoned" in the first place if that was the better choice.

That's why we tried to stop their evolution by declaring our thoughts to be absolute. Really, it's laughable! Calling ourselves the eyes of the Soul King!? When even Soul King continued to accept the changing world without punishing it!"
Any explanation of how the hell could they imprison him wouldn't make sense. That is why the author decided not to do it, because he can't. Even the explanation that he let them do it is still a big stretch.
Or he just observed them from another dimansion and SK's body is just one of his pseudo avatar to descent to lower realm. To give future to those who begged for help and mercy, and he gives freedom and future to choose from.
What impreses me the most is the fact that even Ywach, who we are safe to asume, has the most powerful sclaverie can't absorb all of the Soul King's reiatsu, that is, for me, the clearest sign of his overwhelming power.
This means nothing it actually just makes both of them look weaker. Hogyoku Aizen couldn’t perceive FG Ichigo even before he transformed after he himself evolved significantly (the Kido which distorted space and time did 0 damage to Ichigo literally slapping it away yet when Aizen evolves he can at least hurt Ichigo). Everyone was sensing SK Yhwach and TZ Ichigo. Nanana could perceive Aizen’s reishi highlighting that the suit put holes in it. Most fans don’t remember/understand all this. Point I’m making is Yhwach reached a limit LONG before he became truly transcended (they’re transcended in that they’re past the limits of pure Shinigami etc but not the level where your power can’t even be perceived). This was while having not just most of SK’s power but also his own. And the excessive power that peaked out was pretty much fodder
Personally, I do like the fact that we DON’T know everything about the Soul King. He wouldn’t be very mysterious character if we knew everything about him. But the fact that BILLIONS of people in the soul society barely know the existence of the Soul King, but us as the reader get to know enough to understand his existence makes it crazy to think about, even though the Soul King isn’t even real.
I would agree, except I think this is one of those times where we should know exactly what he is. Like the series made it seem like the shinigami served the soul king. Then they made it seem like they inprisoned him. I don’t need to know exactly where he came from. But I should know something about his current situation, why aizen seemed to hate him. Like we deserved more

Not really. I think we've had quite enough info from manga and novels. I personally think that the mystery that surrounds him and that we don't know everything about him is part of the charm.

What happened to Ukitake was a travesty. I would have loved for him to go out fighting against Lille with Kyoraku. Yhwach would have looked better just draped in darkness without all those goofy eyes. He deserved a much better looking final form.

the perfect way to demonstrate the soul kings power is through shuhei, in cfyow shuheis bankai is described as the world before the soul king created the universe and the dimensions etc, shuheis bankai is literally just everyone just existed, no one got killed and no one got let out freely theyre just there for all of eternity and the fact that the soul king had the power to create dimensions and universes in that emptiness should say something about how op he is

Something I brought up in another video is that even the Soul King couldn't control Hell, but Kazui was born with that ability it seems. I wonder what that implies? I assume that the Soul King was able to see through his son's power as well. If that's the case, Kazui reaching towards YHWCH's remnant eye and destroying/absorbing it with ease would've been the furthest into the future he saw.
My theory: If Stark was able to split in two, then the Soul King probably did something like that before he was attacked and imprisoned. The Soul Kings' consciousness is in another body just living/guiding until his plan ends. And it would have something to do with Urahara, shoot maybe Urahara is the diminished form or part of the Soul King with all his predictions, plans, crazy ideas, and he's just having to relearn stuff; or his son. That would be a wild considering we never really find out his full backstory.

However, he knows the future so he knew where all his parts would end up so that is also a factor in him not splitting himself beforehand.

I think I'd like to note to puff up the Soul King even more is that it took Aizen, a transcendent being, to destroy his excess reiatsu. It seems that to even begin to think to stand against or with the Soul King, the bare minimum is to be a transcendent being. Also, if CFYOW is treated as canon, I wonder how strong Matsumoto would be if she didn't get the Soul King's nail ripped out of her soul. She probably wouldn't be as crazy as his other limbs, but still, fun little what if to imagine.
One possibility is that upon joining the Gotei 13, she attains Bankai while serving as Isshin's lieutenant; thus in the modern day, it would be Rangiku as Captain and Toushirou as Assistant Captain/Lieutenant...as it probably should've been, unless somehow Toushirou got his Bankai _before_ Rangiku. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

I’m guessing (100% sure) that people in the comment are gonna talk about power scaling whereas Kubo doesn’t give a shit about this, sometimes western readers should think more about narrative process and what Kubo want to tell in his story with a godlike character instead of who is the strongest or who can destroy the universe. And in your videos you always tend to discuss more about what kubo want to show with a characters abilities and in this case, try to explain how important for the universe of Bleach it was to create a character with such a god figure instead of going « he is planetary level omg he can easily beat this guy and this guy » (sorry reddit user but I’m also tired to see these thread about power scaling everyday lol) I really enjoyed your discussion video about the Soul King! So I’m glad that you are talking more about him.
You are right but neither Kubo nor fans should be annoyed about that as kubo himself opened the door on that kind of thinking by constantly Talking about strength and power and not the utility of the powers themselves at least until the final arc and by then the damage is done and the reader has been conditioned to think about the power difference as the main decider in most conflicts (especially ichigos fights)
I enjoy both the theorising around power scaling and discussing the deeper symbolism and narrative elements. Its okay to appreciate both or just one aspect.
In power scaling discussions, there are 4 possibilities: 1. It actually works (rare in Western stories, even moreso in anima/manga). 2. It's screwed with by powerful but manipulative characters playing at being weak and never really showing their true power (most common Western approach). 3. Power scaling is broken by the nature of different types of power. You get a combination of power "levels" and power "interactions" which can create bad match-ups where a "stronger" character can't beat a "weaker" one because of the nature of their abilities. 4. Power scaling breaks as a matter of scale. When there are multiple reality-breaking (not just bending) characters, you reach a point where power scaling just puts all of them on one level, and everything else gets scaled to how close it comes to that level. Their power doesn't scale the same way any more, and the normal rules can't apply.

i always wondered if the soul king's all mighty could see the future beyond his own death, which might explain why he wasnt tripping on being sealed and he saw his son replacing him to maintain the world.
I think the Soul King sacrificed himself to keep the universe balanced & I believe he saw Aizen's & Yhwach's defeat & basically the universe always staying balanced (as long as there's no new "living" Soul King. Which will probably be explored upon in the hell arc & I think Kazui will play a big part in it.
Perhaps there was a way to fool his All Might just like Aizen fooled Ywach. Or another flaw. Or to defend himself he would end up destroying all his creation and he could not bear that.
Possible hidden detail I just thought of: the Soul King has four irises but none point to the center or act as a "central" iris, denoting acceptance and willing loss of control, liking to a blind, unmoving, unfeeling but all-knowing god imprisoned of his own volition. I feel this is purposefully chosen to symbolize that the Soul King knew all possible pasts, presents and futures like you talked about him knowing he would die by his own son maybe since his "birth".
Great vid! Thank you. My curiosity is how strong ichigo's potential is. Since they were considering him for a replacement for the soul King his latent abilities and potential must be off the charts. Considering that he's still a young boy through most of the series in you watch him unlock his abilities exponentially I can't imagine if he had the time of hundreds if not thousands of years how powerful he would be. I mean just through the series alone you watch him get to a point where he's able to go toe to toe with some of the strongest beings in the bleach universe.

What's cool is what the soul king, in all his power, never did. He never created the world but rather changed it. He never destroyed the world but rather is integral to it's continuation. He never killed himself to end his entrapment despite likely being able to when trapped. He never had anyone worship him as a god despite being able to. Overall one stand up dude
Maybe the Ywach only had three irises instead of four because Ywach didn't have dominion over hell, while the soul king had dominion over all four worlds. Even the "cross" in the eyes of the soul king holds all four irises (worlds) in perfect balance.
Even though I know that his eyes are 4 black irises with a normal-ish sclera (the white part of your eye), I can't help but see them as weird + shaped eyes.
In some ways the Soul King kinda reminds me of the Emperor of Man from Warhammer 40k. Impossibly strong sort of live sort of dead figure imprisoned there being a key stone of the world. A little more literal for the Soul King, but still.

I’m still unsure as to how the Soul King works. He is mentioned as the progenitor of the Shinigami, Quincy and Humans and that in the primordial world there was no death. Yet there were Hollows?…But Hollows only exist when Souls’ Chains of Fate become encroached for staying in one place too long AFTER death? But anyway he’s mentioned to have annihilated the Hollows just like a Quincy which destabilised the world…But he’s the progenitor of the Shinigami so couldn’t he use some form of Konso? Also I hate when people say he’s the first Fullbring as well…that’s dumb asf considering his death and splintering of his cells is what led to the Fullbring’s existing. We NEED a CFYOW adaptation with WAY MORE material added to fill in the gaps. EDIT: I didn’t even mention how Yhwach is supposedly his son and never explained. Yhwach was definitely born at a certain stage and so it can’t be his literal son as he’s only a few hundred years older than Haschwalth. So Yhwach is about 1,300* years old. I don’t think SK came down and just had a baby and fucked back into the Soul Palace lol.

@@mikecash2384 that is true but he is mentioned to have the abilities of a Shinigami. And that was stated as an absolute and not mere pondering by Tokinada.
So I have two names you could give the soul kind based on how the sternritter liked to name things: A the absolute as his son was A the almighty to symbolize that he is above his son, or A the alpha, the vary first letter in the greek alphabet to sort of symbolize that he's where everything that happens began. It's also kind if implied that if his powered worked anything like his son's does then he was aware of everything that was going to happen, and chose to let it be that way, or perhaps long ago he did some actions that would have a domino effect to allow the outcome he wanted.
I always found the Soul King to be an interesting part of the story. His existence raises so many questions. However, I personally hate the Soul King. Not narratively but rather because of what he did to the powerscaling portion of the Bleach fanbase. So much of how you interpret the scaling in the series comes down to how you view the Soul King, his role in the world of Bleach as a whole, and how you view the setting of Bleach. The reason the word "universal", even comes up in conversations is because of one time the word was mentioned when describing the Soul King.
I agree in every way that the scaling community is toxic af and trash but if you didn't think the bleach cosmology wasn't universal in the first place then you're just wrong. The garganta is an endless void of space that holds all the bleach realms, dimensions, and worlds in it. I don't know if you read the novels and bleach data books either but if you did you would have an idea of the valley of screams and how it has infinite dimensions all varying in size anywhere from infinite to small pocket dimensions where new dimensions are constantly being born endlessly. Hell was stated to be an infinite multiverse with infinite layers. Now hueco Mundo and soul society are kind of vague because it's stated that soul society mirrors the world of the living and hueco Mundo has been stated to be endless. We don't know to what limit the soul society mirrors the human world but we do know it has stars and a moon so it mirrors it to the extent of galaxy level at the VERY LEAST but since logically the human world is universal in size that would logically equate the soul society to universal. That's just the tip of the iceberg there's still the dangai, the caja negacion pocket dimensions aizen created for every Espada and fraccione, yukios space time dimensions that people like to downplay but don't even know what space times are, the soul palace, the beast realm, etc. Bleach has always been universal. Edit: shit I forgot about muken which is in the soul society and muken is a prison which translates literally to infinite space and its been stated it stretches for infinity further proving that the soul society is universal.

Yh it is absolutely everything... It was stated multiple times in the novels: CFYOW implies that SK transcends everything, and was directly stated that he transcends life, death, it was also stated he is in between static and dynamic that means he is a transduality being. Also it was stated that his existence is "Absolute" and that he is older than time itself, and that he views all the events and controls them, meaning the TYBW or any event in Bleach happened because of him. He is beyond busted, its like he is the author of the verse.
I would personally love to see a playable interpretation of the Soul King in a game. (Of course, with very close supervision from Kubo) Even if it was just Bleach: Brave Souls.

I think this especially highlights how powerful Aizen had become, that even with so many of his seals still in place, he was powerful enough to brush off those remnants of the Soul King's power like they were nothing pretty much Really makes you wonder what he'd be like if he was completely unsealed
_Head Canon!_ The son is blinded by the scale of the forest, and walks straight into a tree. The father avoids every tree, but is blind to the majesty of the forest. Yhwach sees an infinite sea of futures, that he can wander between at will. This leads to him feeling like he is a pseudo-divine being, who can force reality into manifesting his will. But, the reason for the many futures is that his foresight is more flawed than he knows. His foresight has immense breadth, but lacks depth; so he can see every possible future, but his powers of prediction are poor. He fails to predict the outcome of his battle with Yamamoto and he fails again with Aizen, Uryuu and Ichigo. The feeling of randomness, and the illusion of control, makes him obsessed with his own will. He thrashes and bites and struggles every step of the way to his fate, but is powerless to change it. The Soul King shows pretty much no will of his own. His foresight is so perfect, that he can predict exactly which future will occur. Even if it shifts or twists, he can pick the correct new timeline instantly. At any given moment he knows exactly what the future holds; and if that future happens to change, the previous timeline becomes inconceivable to his perfect foresight. He sees a single, unbroken timeline. Which leaves no space for a concept like choice. He has the foresight and the might to actually do everything that Yhwach thinks he can. But he is simply unaware that he can choose to do so. So he floats through the world simply doing what he foresees, until he sees himself sealed in a giant crystal. After which his actions are removed from the equation, and he just sits there, and waits for his destined death.
He probably choice a time line where his life ends because he hasn't really died just possibly able to move to a new plan... have a feeling he know it there for he allowed it to free himself to a new level.
Yhwach doesn't have the Almighty always on we see this when Ichigo and Orihime fight him and he takes the Gran Rey Getsuga and only then he activates the Almighty we know this because the eyes appear and then he breaks Ichigo's Bankai, beats him and goes away.

I think it's decently clear that the soul king is life. His power gets out and it comes alive. I don't think he's imprisoned. He's in the past present and future at the same time. Bound or free is all the same to him.
The Soul King was Exodia, just that. Good video as always. Already the power absorbed by Yhwach and that shown by his parts (arms and heart) let us imagine at what level of power the SK was, ultra earthly. It's weird that we didn't get to see his legs too (or he would really have become Exodia), while it's amazing how CFYOW has expanded with so many notions about him (I like the implied possibility that Gremmy's brain was another remnant of him as well). Still I have two doubts left, the first one is how Yhwach found Gerard and Pernida, and why the identified themselves as quincies (even if a grudge against the shinigami would be legit). The next one is in the novel, more than a doubt it is a dark point, how did the ancestors of the Soul Society have managed to defeat and seal him? Surely those five must have been tremendously broken, but if we think about the level that the complete SK should have, it would be immense, not that easily beatable (let's see final Yhwach, as an example).
Yknow the thing about Aizen’s appearances in the Blood War arc that scares me… is that the majority of his reiatsu was still being somewhat restricted by those seals on his body. It’s possible that he might just be strong enough to give Soul King Ywhach a pretty good fight
No. The seals didnt reduce his power, they only restrain his reiatsu close to him. And because of the way the almighty works, aizen could have multiply his reiatsu by 50 and still lose

We definitely need that Soul King backstory in the anime. And I wonder will the Soul King reveal be different. Possibly have the Soul King be autonomous and have him be in suspended animation. Everything would have to be changed after that point, but that depends on what Kuboo wants to do if he wants to make big changes which I heard he's doing. I'm hoping this fight can be as long as the Wana Country arc in One Piece which was like 4 years.

Honestly I think Gremmy's brain being another remnant of the Soul King makes a lot of sense; especially with how much CFYOW hammered home this idea. The Soul King's disembodied brain having the power to literally warp reality would align nicely with how strong he really was.

Was it ever stated directly that Yhwach gave Gremmy that power? If not, there is that possibility that he is a part of the SK. Pernida and Gerard were said to always have had their power, with the Schrift only being given to sort of acknowledge that power rather than being the source of it. Of course, there's the other reason for the Schrifts too - Yhwach giving them out allows him to take them back later along with the person's power.

Simply put, if he wasn't so benevolent and willing to let the intelligent beings of the world live in the way they wanted to, the original 5 ancestors wouldn't have been able to do a thing to him.
Strong enough to bend reality, causing a group of comparable weaklings imprison him out of ambition and paranoia. Jury is still out as to why he didn't resist, maybe he believed he was truly helping in building a new better world, he certainly saw the future and his eventual freedom in death. Either way regardless of his omnipotence and unknowable power the Spirit King is the ultimate victim of the saga. No wonder anyone who finds out is disgusted and disturbed, developing a radically different view of Soul Society.

In the novel CFYOW it is heavily implied that is the case as (SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT READ THE NOVELS STOP HERE) the original 4 nobels scheme to butcher him into the pieces as he is right now but, upon being butchered, the Soul King never resist.

Prime Soul King is the strongest character in the entire series. He's an actual God that split the universe. His AP should scale higher than Yhwach who's going to destroy and create 3 realms (arguably universe sized), Dangai, Muken, and more. And Prime Soul King should be superior to Yhwach.
If I remember right, The Soul King didn't split the universe; the first of what would be the nobel houses of the shinigami did, absent the Shiba along with Ichibei. The Soul King existed to keep the hollows in check when all words were one. The 4 nobel houses and Ichibei chopped up the Soul King severing his arms (which became Mimihagi and Pernida), his legs, and removing his organs (the Soul King's Heart became Gerard Valkyrie), dividing the one realm into Hueco Mundo, The World of the Living, and Soul Society, anchored all 3 to remain apart using The Soul King's mutilated corpse, and set up the cycling of souls between the realms.

The powers of the fullbringers also help demonstrate the sheer amount of power that the soul king possessed. We know they all possess a fragment/nail of the soul king and the most default power they gain from it is manipulating matter. This then extends to fullbringers developing their own unique powers which were all pretty crazy. You have Yukio who can create pocket dimensions where he can create his own rules, Riruka who can transfer souls into and between objects, Tsukishima and putting himself into the past, Giriko's time power though it's not explored much and also Orihime's power to reject phenomenon. All of them can be seen as godly and can basically just be a fraction of what the soul king was capable.
Okay, so hear me out. There is theory.
Perfect Almighty eyes don't have 4 but 5 irises. The eyes of soul king are empty because they are lacking iris in the middle of each eye which symbolises his "earthly" consciousness and connection to the present. He is suspended in kinda 4 dimensional void, the past and future at the same time but not exactly in the present. The remaining 1 of each of the irises detached, descended and finally became pair of hogyokus. As manifestation of the soul Kings will and his whole being in the "present" they are working behind the scenes to fulfill soul kings will by leading people's will, giving them insights and non human powers. They have found 2 beings with high potential to realize their goal so they let them be in possession of them but out of 2 finally only aizen was acting in accordance to their will. That's the reason why they both finally found their way to aizen and merged to increase power of their host and help him help them. The reason why aizen transcended is because of that. He basically used soul kings power to do that. Everything was going smoothly but at some point during fight with Ichigo aizen started losing. That's the point where hogyoku became impatient and forced their will onto aizen. His 3 eye is in fact hoguokus eye. Manifestation of hoguokus consciousness, soul kings irises. The eyes in his wings are symbolic way of showing this. Eyes on his wings are the same thing as the eyes on yhwach cloak or mimihagi. Symbolic representation of soul kings power.
That is the reason why aizen could crush those black things made from soul kings reiatsu and mess a little with yhwachs power.

I posted a theory on the gremmy v zaraki video about how the brain lost so abruptly. I postulated that Brain did have unimaginable power, but lacked the experience in battle (non imaginative ideas like lava) and lacked endurance from not using powers often (like a person who trains more can keep going longer). Anatomically, the brain uses lots of energy via glucose. What if, Brain in the soul king had the experience and endurance to create dimensions. But once the Soul Society split him up, and Brain gained sentience to imagine a body, it lost its endurance and experience by being locked up. Over the course of the battle Brain gained experience faster than endurance, needing more and more energy and the endurance just couldn't keep up, ultimately resulting in a stroke or aneurysm that killed Brain/Gremmy. Given enough time and training, maybe Gremmy could have had power closer to the Soul King
So everything that happened was all according to Aizen's plan....

Any explanation of how the hell could they imprison him wouldn't make sense. That is why the author decided not to do it, because he can't. Even the explanation that he let them do it is still a big stretch.
Or he just observed them from another dimansion and SK's body is just one of his pseudo avatar to descent to lower realm. To give future to those who begged for help and mercy, and he gives freedom and future to choose from.

This means nothing it actually just makes both of them look weaker. Hogyoku Aizen couldn’t perceive FG Ichigo even before he transformed after he himself evolved significantly (the Kido which distorted space and time did 0 damage to Ichigo literally slapping it away yet when Aizen evolves he can at least hurt Ichigo). Everyone was sensing SK Yhwach and TZ Ichigo. Nanana could perceive Aizen’s reishi highlighting that the suit put holes in it. Most fans don’t remember/understand all this. Point I’m making is Yhwach reached a limit LONG before he became truly transcended (they’re transcended in that they’re past the limits of pure Shinigami etc but not the level where your power can’t even be perceived). This was while having not just most of SK’s power but also his own. And the excessive power that peaked out was pretty much fodder
Personally, I do like the fact that we DON’T know everything about the Soul King. He wouldn’t be very mysterious character if we knew everything about him. But the fact that BILLIONS of people in the soul society barely know the existence of the Soul King, but us as the reader get to know enough to understand his existence makes it crazy to think about, even though the Soul King isn’t even real.
Kinda like the mystery surrounding The Joker's Origins.

the perfect way to demonstrate the soul kings power is through shuhei, in cfyow shuheis bankai is described as the world before the soul king created the universe and the dimensions etc, shuheis bankai is literally just everyone just existed, no one got killed and no one got let out freely theyre just there for all of eternity and the fact that the soul king had the power to create dimensions and universes in that emptiness should say something about how op he is

I assume that the Soul King was able to see through his son's power as well. If that's the case, Kazui reaching towards YHWCH's remnant eye and destroying/absorbing it with ease would've been the furthest into the future he saw.
My theory: If Stark was able to split in two, then the Soul King probably did something like that before he was attacked and imprisoned. The Soul Kings' consciousness is in another body just living/guiding until his plan ends. And it would have something to do with Urahara, shoot maybe Urahara is the diminished form or part of the Soul King with all his predictions, plans, crazy ideas, and he's just having to relearn stuff; or his son. That would be a wild considering we never really find out his full backstory.

I think I'd like to note to puff up the Soul King even more is that it took Aizen, a transcendent being, to destroy his excess reiatsu. It seems that to even begin to think to stand against or with the Soul King, the bare minimum is to be a transcendent being.
Also, if CFYOW is treated as canon, I wonder how strong Matsumoto would be if she didn't get the Soul King's nail ripped out of her soul. She probably wouldn't be as crazy as his other limbs, but still, fun little what if to imagine.
One possibility is that upon joining the Gotei 13, she attains Bankai while serving as Isshin's lieutenant; thus in the modern day, it would be Rangiku as Captain and Toushirou as Assistant Captain/Lieutenant...as it probably should've been, unless somehow Toushirou got his Bankai _before_ Rangiku. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

I’m guessing (100% sure) that people in the comment are gonna talk about power scaling whereas Kubo doesn’t give a shit about this, sometimes western readers should think more about narrative process and what Kubo want to tell in his story with a godlike character instead of who is the strongest or who can destroy the universe. And in your videos you always tend to discuss more about what kubo want to show with a characters abilities and in this case, try to explain how important for the universe of Bleach it was to create a character with such a god figure instead of going « he is planetary level omg he can easily beat this guy and this guy » (sorry reddit user but I’m also tired to see these thread about power scaling everyday lol)

Talking about strength and power and not the utility of the powers themselves at least until the final arc and by then the damage is done and the reader has been conditioned to think about the power difference as the main decider in most conflicts (especially ichigos fights)
I enjoy both the theorising around power scaling and discussing the deeper symbolism and narrative elements. Its okay to appreciate both or just one aspect.
In power scaling discussions, there are 4 possibilities:
1. It actually works (rare in Western stories, even moreso in anima/manga).
2. It's screwed with by powerful but manipulative characters playing at being weak and never really showing their true power (most common Western approach).
3. Power scaling is broken by the nature of different types of power. You get a combination of power "levels" and power "interactions" which can create bad match-ups where a "stronger" character can't beat a "weaker" one because of the nature of their abilities.
4. Power scaling breaks as a matter of scale. When there are multiple reality-breaking (not just bending) characters, you reach a point where power scaling just puts all of them on one level, and everything else gets scaled to how close it comes to that level. Their power doesn't scale the same way any more, and the normal rules can't apply.

I think the Soul King sacrificed himself to keep the universe balanced & I believe he saw Aizen's & Yhwach's defeat & basically the universe always staying balanced (as long as there's no new "living" Soul King. Which will probably be explored upon in the hell arc & I think Kazui will play a big part in it.

Possible hidden detail I just thought of: the Soul King has four irises but none point to the center or act as a "central" iris, denoting acceptance and willing loss of control, liking to a blind, unmoving, unfeeling but all-knowing god imprisoned of his own volition. I feel this is purposefully chosen to symbolize that the Soul King knew all possible pasts, presents and futures like you talked about him knowing he would die by his own son maybe since his "birth".

Great vid! Thank you. My curiosity is how strong ichigo's potential is. Since they were considering him for a replacement for the soul King his latent abilities and potential must be off the charts. Considering that he's still a young boy through most of the series in you watch him unlock his abilities exponentially I can't imagine if he had the time of hundreds if not thousands of years how powerful he would be. I mean just through the series alone you watch him get to a point where he's able to go toe to toe with some of the strongest beings in the bleach universe.

What's cool is what the soul king, in all his power, never did. He never created the world but rather changed it. He never destroyed the world but rather is integral to it's continuation. He never killed himself to end his entrapment despite likely being able to when trapped. He never had anyone worship him as a god despite being able to.

Maybe the Ywach only had three irises instead of four because Ywach didn't have dominion over hell, while the soul king had dominion over all four worlds.
Even the "cross" in the eyes of the soul king holds all four irises (worlds) in perfect balance.
Being killed was the only way to escape his prison, and he now resides in hell. He’ll be the main villain of the hell arc.

Even though I know that his eyes are 4 black irises with a normal-ish sclera (the white part of your eye), I can't help but see them as weird + shaped eyes.
In some ways the Soul King kinda reminds me of the Emperor of Man from Warhammer 40k. Impossibly strong sort of live sort of dead figure imprisoned there being a key stone of the world. A little more literal for the Soul King, but still.

I’m still unsure as to how the Soul King works. He is mentioned as the progenitor of the Shinigami, Quincy and Humans and that in the primordial world there was no death. Yet there were Hollows?…But Hollows only exist when Souls’ Chains of Fate become encroached for staying in one place too long AFTER death?

So I have two names you could give the soul kind based on how the sternritter liked to name things:
A the absolute as his son was A the almighty to symbolize that he is above his son,
or A the alpha, the vary first letter in the greek alphabet to sort of symbolize that he's where everything that happens began.
It's also kind if implied that if his powered worked anything like his son's does then he was aware of everything that was going to happen, and chose to let it be that way, or perhaps long ago he did some actions that would have a domino effect to allow the outcome he wanted.
I always found the Soul King to be an interesting part of the story. His existence raises so many questions. However, I personally hate the Soul King. Not narratively but rather because of what he did to the powerscaling portion of the Bleach fanbase. So much of how you interpret the scaling in the series comes down to how you view the Soul King, his role in the world of Bleach as a whole, and how you view the setting of Bleach. The reason the word "universal", even comes up in conversations is because of one time the word was mentioned when describing the Soul King.

Now hueco Mundo and soul society are kind of vague because it's stated that soul society mirrors the world of the living and hueco Mundo has been stated to be endless. We don't know to what limit the soul society mirrors the human world but we do know it has stars and a moon so it mirrors it to the extent of galaxy level at the VERY LEAST but since logically the human world is universal in size that would logically equate the soul society to universal. That's just the tip of the iceberg there's still the dangai, the caja negacion pocket dimensions aizen created for every Espada and fraccione, yukios space time dimensions that people like to downplay but don't even know what space times are, the soul palace, the beast realm, etc. Bleach has always been universal.

It was stated multiple times in the novels: CFYOW implies that SK transcends everything, and was directly stated that he transcends life, death, it was also stated he is in between static and dynamic that means he is a transduality being. Also it was stated that his existence is "Absolute" and that he is older than time itself, and that he views all the events and controls them, meaning the TYBW or any event in Bleach happened because of him. He is beyond busted, its like he is the author of the verse.
I would personally love to see a playable interpretation of the Soul King in a game. (Of course, with very close supervision from Kubo) Even if it was just Bleach: Brave Souls.

Yhwach sees an infinite sea of futures, that he can wander between at will. This leads to him feeling like he is a pseudo-divine being, who can force reality into manifesting his will. But, the reason for the many futures is that his foresight is more flawed than he knows. His foresight has immense breadth, but lacks depth; so he can see every possible future, but his powers of prediction are poor. He fails to predict the outcome of his battle with Yamamoto and he fails again with Aizen, Uryuu and Ichigo. The feeling of randomness, and the illusion of control, makes him obsessed with his own will. He thrashes and bites and struggles every step of the way to his fate, but is powerless to change it.
The Soul King shows pretty much no will of his own. His foresight is so perfect, that he can predict exactly which future will occur. Even if it shifts or twists, he can pick the correct new timeline instantly. At any given moment he knows exactly what the future holds; and if that future happens to change, the previous timeline becomes inconceivable to his perfect foresight. He sees a single, unbroken timeline. Which leaves no space for a concept like choice. He has the foresight and the might to actually do everything that Yhwach thinks he can. But he is simply unaware that he can choose to do so. So he floats through the world simply doing what he foresees, until he sees himself sealed in a giant crystal. After which his actions are removed from the equation, and he just sits there, and waits for his destined death.
He probably choice a time line where his life ends because he hasn't really died just possibly able to move to a new plan... have a feeling he know it there for he allowed it to free himself to a new level.
One of the biggest plot holes in the 1000 year blood war is how can he can see all possible futures but not see Tsukashima coming to fix ichigos blade
Yhwach doesn't have the Almighty always on we see this when Ichigo and Orihime fight him and he takes the Gran Rey Getsuga and only then he activates the Almighty we know this because the eyes appear and then he breaks Ichigo's Bankai, beats him and goes away.

Good video as always. Already the power absorbed by Yhwach and that shown by his parts (arms and heart) let us imagine at what level of power the SK was, ultra earthly. It's weird that we didn't get to see his legs too (or he would really have become Exodia), while it's amazing how CFYOW has expanded with so many notions about him (I like the implied possibility that Gremmy's brain was another remnant of him as well). Still I have two doubts left, the first one is how Yhwach found Gerard and Pernida, and why the identified themselves as quincies (even if a grudge against the shinigami would be legit). The next one is in the novel, more than a doubt it is a dark point, how did the ancestors of the Soul Society have managed to defeat and seal him? Surely those five must have been tremendously broken, but if we think about the level that the complete SK should have, it would be immense, not that easily beatable (let's see final Yhwach, as an example).

We definitely need that Soul King backstory in the anime. And I wonder will the Soul King reveal be different. Possibly have the Soul King be autonomous and have him be in suspended animation. Everything would have to be changed after that point, but that depends on what Kuboo wants to do if he wants to make big changes which I heard he's doing.
