  • Granny Squares are as quintessentially a part of crochet as the return of song birds are expected to the arrival of spring. I’m so glad you joined me as I walk you through every step you need to make your own Daisy Granny Square, and blanket. This sweet little thrown will remind you of the early flowers of spring as we eagerly await the newness of the season.
    For this blanket I used:
    ~Joann’s Big Twist Value yarn in Varsity Gold (1 skein), Light Green (2 skeins), White (3 skeins), or any worsted weight/4 weight yarn will do
    ~US I/9 5.5mm crochet hook
    ~Yarn needle
    ~Scissors
    ~Tape measure or ruler
    Look for the second video to learn how to join the squares and then add a simple border.
    I surely hope you enjoy your time with me, and I can’t wait to hear what you plan to make with your Daisy Granny Squares.
    Happy Crocheting Help support my channel so I can bring you better content. All you have to do is buy me a coffee:

    Yay! I made my first ever granny squares ( yes more than one 😁) with your beautifully demonstrated and explained video. I have crocheted along with your instructions and watched and re watched this video at least 20 times between the 8 squares to go see the directions again and again ( I think I have information retention deficit) 🤷. Everytime you said "alright?" I nodded my head and said ok/yes. Once i realised I was obediently replying to a video, I had a fun time laughing at myself. Long story short, you are a great teacher. I was so upset when I went to see other videos and saw you have only 7 videos posted. Please consider posting more. I am just a beginner and I really loved the way you made it so easy to follow along with you. I just hope I can persevere till the 48th square.🙂 Thank you.

      LOL! I find myself going the same thing watching videos. I am so pleased I was able to help you through your squares. Sometimes when I’m feeling overwhelmed with making so many squares (120 one time 🤪) I do each step all at once before doing the next. Such as, the middle of the daisy, tie off, weave in tails until all the centers are complete. Then the daisy petals, tie off, weave in tails etc. Somehow it makes me feel like I’m getting done quicker. Do you really get done quicker, I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️ I have done all the squares one at a time and get overwhelmed when I have a bazillion tails to weave in! Just find what works for you and have a good time! As for more videos, I do have a couple projects in mind, but do to health issues I just haven’t been able to make them. Check back from time to time so I’ll know how you’re getting along with your crochet journey! 💖

Somewhere along the lines here I started to actually understand what I was doing with the stitches and why, structurally. You made it click! I was frustrated for many years because written patterns were just not clear enough for me to truly understand how to make the pattern work. I eventually found a wonderful woman who made it all make sense. I didn’t want anyone else to feel like they couldn’t do it because they didn’t understand a stitch. Congratulations on your new endeavor and I hope you will only grow in your love for crochet 💖

      @janetspring7576 You should be able to buy worsted weight (or #4 weight yarn) at any craft store. This granny square blanket will be lovely in any color you choose. For this blanket, I used 3 skeins of white (380yds/6oz or 347m/170g per skein), 2 skeins of green and 1 skein of yellow. The blanket I made is a lap size or toddler size (43in x 60in or 109cm x 152cm). I got the yarn at Joann stores (US) and it is their brand called Big Twist value yarn. I’ve made this granny square before using Red Heart super saver. Hope this helps 💖

      I really need to sit down and write it out. I learned the daisy grannny many years ago so this blanket was done practically by heart. Since several people have asked for a written pattern, I’ll add it to the comments when I can. Thank you so much for commenting and watching my video 💖

      I certainly hope I earned your subscribe! 😊. My blanket is more of a lap blanket or toddler sized blanket. Without hunting it down, I believe it was 48, 6 across and 8 down with a 3” border. My squares were about 6”. The math comes out to 42” across and 54” long. Thanks for watching 💖

    • @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489
      @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489  Год назад

      I believe I made 48 for the blanket in the video. When you complete your square, measure the size (everyone’s will be a bit different), and calculate how big you want yours to be. Remember that the border will add a few inches to the diameter. I believe I did 6 6” squares per row and 8 rows down for a total of 48 squares. But you can do as many as you want for the size blanket you need.

    • @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489
      @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489  Год назад

      I’m so glad you liked my video! I can’t remember exactly how much yarn I used (I think I put it in the video description). This blanket is child sized or could be just a lap blanket for an adult. To make it bigger, like a large throw blanket, maybe twin bed size, I would just double the amounts indicated. Unfortunately, I’m out of state caring for a relative and don’t have my notebook with me. I wish I could give you more precise amounts. I hope this is helpful none the less. 💖

    Do you have to have all the loops? Why not 3 individual trembles? This is hard keeping them all on the hook.

    • @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489
      @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489  11 месяцев назад

      That’s a great question. There are two reasons why you need to have all those loops:
      1. If you don’t work up three trebles and then bring them together with the final chain stitch, the trebles will not form the petal shape, and…
      2. Because the trebles were not connected to form a petal, you have now created too many stitches on that round, making it very difficult to complete the square. For example: one petal equals one stitch in your count. By not connecting them you would have to work a chain in between the trebles thus increasing that round by one stitch per treble. The result of that will not only make that round wavy, but the next round of granny stitches would not work out to the correct count per row.
      Perhaps you could try using a hook that has more space between the hook and flattened area for your thumb. I usually recommend Susan Bates hooks for beginners, but (I believe) Hobby Lobby makes metal hooks with a wooden handle that has a longer neck. This may help you until you get more proficient with holding all those loops on the hook.
      Hope this helps and best of luck to you 💖

    Quick question. New crocheter here. Could we just do a double crochet stitch instead of a chain 3 in the magic circle to begin the center of the daisy?

    • @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489
      @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489  Год назад +1

      You can, but the dbl crochet at that point will have a different look and height than the others. It will still look fine in the end. Just be careful of where the top of the stitch is so you won’t drop down too far. Doing so will cause a “ripple” effect throughout the project if you continually lower your connecting stitches on subsequent rounds. Using a stitch marker will make it easier to spot the top of the dbl crochet each time around. Hope this helps. 💖

      I apologize for the late response, but no, I don’t have a pattern. Many crocheters have similar daisy granny patterns, so any will do for this blanket. I learned this one from my grandmother many years ago. I guess it’s time for me to jump onto the technology bandwagon and figure out how to share a written version. Is it angora yarn? That’s made from Angora rabbits 🐇 . Or perhaps you have Alpaca yarn made from llamas 🦙. Either way, your project can be made from any yarn you choose. However, check the “weight” of the yarn. I used 4 weight or worsted weight. Using a smaller or larger weight will change the size of your squares. Mine are 6 inches square. Alpaca yarn tends to be a 5 or 6 weight so your squares may be 8+ inches square. Angora can be a 2 or 3 weight so the square may be 3-4 inches. If you decide to make a blanket you’ll need to keep the size difference in mind. Angora and Alpaca yarns are wonderful but can be rather costly so keep that in mind too. You may want to consider making a sweater, hat or scarf with these type yarns. Good luck to you with your project. I’m sure whatever you chose will be lovely. 💖

      So I am choosing this as my first granny square! ( Just started 4 days ago) I'm wanting to do a daisy / sunflower pattern blanket. Wondering if I can stitch together any set of squares? Or I guess the better question is IF you could help with showing a sunflower granny square to attach to this daisy one. ( I'm only crocheting to the green) Sorry that's a lot. I'm just really excited to make something and you are so good at walking me through the stitches!

    • @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489
      @sleepykittycrochetwithkimb3489  Год назад +1

      My first granny square was this daisy square! An easy way to do a sunflower is simply change the colors. Brown for the center circle, yellow for the petals. This will keep the squares the same size. When changing the design drastically, you run the risk of altering the size so the squares don’t come together like it should.
      I am working on another blanket with sunflowers the are raised up to make a 3D effect. My problem is stitching a “flat” square with the same stitch count. I’ll get it figured out and make a video soon! 💖
