Welcome, I am also from the United States, and discovered Nightwish and Floor a little over 2 years ago and they blew my mind. Nightwish is such a talented band, and you never know where they will take you musically, but they will take you if you listen. Floor is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard, you will see she can do anything she chooses vocally, and it is always beautiful, powerful and masterful. I thought great music was a thing of the past until I took my Nightwish Journey, now I am hooked.

Hey Dean, nice reaction. Indeed Nightwish is so good with their amazing singer Floor Jansen ( she just released two days ago her solosingle called Fire) . It’s also interesting to see Floor in her former band Revamp with the song Disdain ( a growling, blond Floor). But first the legendary Wacken concert….next Storytime or Ghost River. Great song! My personal favorite by them. If you think Nightwish is awesome, which they are. Hands down one of the greatest bands on the planet! You should also check out Epica! Simone Simons is the lead singer and she and Floor are very good friends. Another great symphonic metal band is Within Temptation! IMHO Nightwish leads the pack due to personal reasons. I’m sure others will disagree, but that’s what’s so awesome about music, and being our own individuals. We can disagree and move forward! Good luck with your Nightwish journey! I only got one favorite metal band I discovered 2.5 years ago, Nightwish with Floor. I have checked out a lot of other metal bands with front women and they do NOTHING for me. Did I mention, all of Floor's solo stuff the last 3 years are unmatched by any female performer in music. My personal opinion.
The Wacken Open Air Festival is a yearly 3 day show (I think ) with many bands throughout and on this night Nightwish were the headliner with 82,000 people . Floor had only been with the band for 10 months at this show and the crowd was full of mixed fans and the Nightwish fans that were there most had not heard Nightwish with Floor yet but the word was out how amazing she is . may I suggest the song "Bless the Child" from the same show -ruclips.net/video/VTPXvE6o3LY/видео.html
People seem to forget that Floor was in two bands prior to Nightwish, both of which were not only well known in Europe, but popular with Nightwish fans. She didn’t just appear out of thin air. Even back when Tarja was let go, Floor was one of the people fans were hoping would take her place. They knew how amazing she was.
Wacken (pronounced Vah-ken) has been a yearly metal festival in Germany since 1990. Nightwish headlined here in 2013. The act immediately before them was Alice Cooper. Floor has said that this is one of the more challenging songs for her to sing. Every song at this show was written for one of the first 2 female lead singers, Floor added to the originals and made them her own. Yes, Marko and Floor sound great singing together. He can drive a band ,and has done so before in Tarot. In Nightwish, he sings on a lot of songs, backing and co-lead and on a few songs lead vocals. Try Romanticide next and you will get more of Floor and Marko singing together. What I love about nightwish is that even if the genre or songs arent to your taste there is always something to appreciate, whether its the quality of the instrumentalists and singer of just their energy.
Hi Dean, Floor and Marco both sing at this show together in the songs “Romanticide”, “I want my tears back”, “Song of Myself”, “Last Ride of the Day” (I might have missed 1 or 2). They sound great together. Song of Myself is my favourite of the 4 mentioned.
Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. 🤘💜🤘 Sweet Reaction! We've been Nightwish fans since 1996 and love this classic song. Floor truly kicked butt singing it. But here's an interesting fact. A couple months ago, on her RUclips page, Floor said this was the most difficult Nightwish song for her to sing. Because Tuomas (keyboardist) wrote it for Nightwish's original singer, Tarja, whose operatic range is much higher than Floor's. Floor said, after this tour, Tuomas slowed down this song and lowered its scales to make it easier for Floor to sing. If you watch the Wembley performance of this song, you'll see & hear what she means.
Floor said that Ever Dream is the hardest song for her, because it was made for operatic voice while Floor does it with her full voice. Floor had to belt in the last chorus of the song very high which is very hard to do and in operatic voice it's much easier to reach those notes. Floor could sing this song in operatic voice but she has made the decision not to sing this song like that and I'm not sure about "Tuomas slowed down this song and lowered its scales to make it easier for Floor to sing". Floor has sung much higher stuff so it would be very weird if Tuomas actually slowed down this song and lowered the scales just that Floor would be able to sing this song. It's true though that she hasn't really belted as much in this song anymore so it's easier for her anyway.
male singer is Marko Hietala, long time singer accompanying female singers and taking lead as well as song composition alongside Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, lead and main composer/arranger of the band from their origins in the 1990's. This, and many other popular You Tube performances all come from the 2013 Wacken (Germany) 3 day Open Air Festival, where NW was the main event, before 82.000 fans!. Based on the rapport and command she has with this crowd, you may be surprised to know this was the first time most of the 80,000+ had seen or heard Floor as the lead singer of Nightwish. She joined the band on short notice in October 2012 in Seattle. This was August 2013. They had not recorded or released anything with her at this point. They had only played live in the Americas, Australia, Asia, a few in UK, and one in Finland before this. And Tuomas, the keyboardist, composer of 98 percent of their songs, and founder of Nightwish is incredible. Jukka on drums, and (although not in this song) Troy on Bouzouki, low whistle, tin whistle, and Eulian (elbow) pipes bring sounds and emotions that no other band on earth can match. Of course, the crowd hadn't been following her for some time. She had been in the band about 10 months at this point and most of the Wacken audience would never have seen or heard her. Even more impressive, then, the control she has over the audience participation. We do want Marcos voice alone - try The Islander from Tampere, While Your Lips Are Still Red and High Hopes and you'll see why. For Marco and Floor good versus evil, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires and Ghost River from this show. We in Europe are lucky that we have never abandoned rock/metal. Finland is a haven of metal, but here in the UK is perhaps the cradle of the first metal bands.
Tuomas holopainen the keyboard player writes 95% of their music but they are all world class musicians and singers, I too have been to many concerts in my life, old rock and roller from the beginning and have seen the best but the music here has changed and not for the good I've never payed attention to music from other countries till I accidentally heard nightwish now I'm back to listening to new music they are so good my bucket list to see them in person God bless

I like your Nightwish reactions so far and look forward for the next ones. Floor is the third singer of the band. To fully understand their history, you should also hear their first singer and founding member Tarja Turunen. Maybe check out "Phantom of the Opera" where the singing Bass player (Marko Hietala) also has a big part. Another band you should not miss is Epica!

If you want to get the spirit of the Wacken (Vaken) you need to do "Blind Guardian - Bard Song & Valhalla live at Wacken" , this coming from someone that was there .
Marko is the bassist. Yes, he could 100% be the lead of his own band. Each of these people could. You can't have a musician like Floor and the rest of the band not have some parity with her. It just doesn't work. They all have to be close to the same level. Floor had been with the band for months at this point, and none of these songs were written for her voice. She learned the setlist in 48 hours. That's stupefying. The imagination staggers and fails. And this is live. No second takes. It's easy to fall in love with Nightwish.
Here you have met Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both in harmony and solo. A fan favorite with Marko singing lead, is a Pink Floyd tribute to High Hopes, live End Of An Era 2005. This song is so amazing that David Gilmore himself is a fan! Keep in mind that none of the songs from this Wacken (pron: VAW-Kehn) 2013 concert, were written for Floor Jansen (pron: YAWN-Sehn). She had only been with the band for 10mos at this filming. She manages to masterfully make the songs her own, bringing both power, and emotion to each!
In Scandinavia, you can hear Rock and some Metal (depending which Country it is) on the Radio, but there is still so much of 3 min. pop songs on the Radio. And thats kind of the challenge, for Bands like Nightwish, their music take the time it takes, if its 7 min. it is 7 min. its not boiled down so it can fit the Radio, just as if you take another example in good old Iron Maiden their Songs are long as well. but what is impressive is that its live, its not with all that "studio magic" that certain artist uses to make it sound great, take Ghost Love Score its over an hour into the Set and Floor still sounds amazing.

Yep - you are spot on - no American band do Symphonic Metal. But I can assure you that it is huge in Europe, South America and Asia - and it is a growing genre! And you have still only scratched the surface of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities - maybe 10 - 12% at most!! - Nightwish are going to blow your mind completely. This is composed music - not written. Tuomas (keyboard) finds a story he wants tell - he writes the lyrics ( complexed, poetic and with often with quotes from poets or scietist) - and then he composes the music to enhance to story. And then Floor adds her powers to enhance the story further - just like the other musicians in the band. This was Floor's first tour with Nightwish. At this point she was still a fill-in vocalist to complete the tour. You are correct Dean. Marko (bassist) was the lead vocalist for his previous bands. He also does take the lead vocals on some songs for Nightwish. Wacken may be the biggest metal festival in the world. 4 days and almost 100 bands from all over the world converge on the small town of Wacken, Germany to rock the world. 82000 + fans for this show on this day. Bug fun. I look forward to seeing more from you. So much more to experience from this amazing band. I'm not sure if someone prior to this comment has pointed out regarding your comment "The crowd knew what to expect" was directed toward Floor singing- or at least that's how I took it. Here's a little context to Floor's timeline with them beginning in October 2012 when Annette and Nightwish parted ways in the middle of a US. tour and the band reached out to Floor and gave her 72 hours to fly from Europe to Seattle and learn the setlist on the way. Wacken Open Air took place the first weekend of August 2013, 10 months after she first joined. She was not made a permanent member of the band until Oct 2013. The band cut their first album featuring Floor as the lead singer in 2015. So while the 80+K audience members were familiar with the songs, I'm not too sure if they were familiar with the vocalist. Ever Dream was the 5th of 15 songs (and GLS was 13 of 15).
Floor and Marco together is so amazing. Songs like I Want My Tears Back, and Greatest Show On Earth proves that to the moon and back. Also check out BABYMETAL if you haven’t already. I just discovered them some three weeks ago, and I am blown away like 43 times a day by this holy awesomeness. When your head finally wraps around the impressions collision, it just hits so good. Their vids is bordering to art, some of them, and the live shows are fireworks n’ rollercoasters that boosts your will to live by 37%, if not more. Cheers.
A correction: Jansen is danish name. -sen endind hints to that. Floor herself beinf from Netherlands. That J is not pronounced like J in english. It's more like Yahnsen.

I think the reason they’re not big in the States is because their songs are too long. The primary purpose of a radio station is not to play songs, but rather to play commercials. That’s where the money is and the reason that mainstream artists keep their songs in the 3-4 minute timeframe. Many stations even speed up the songs by about 4% to make room for even more commercials. In the past few days Floor released her first solo single (3.5 mins) in an effort to break into that mainstream. Hope she makes it. Glad you came back to nightwish obviously. This will sound very cheesy, but if you're just a little into metal and enjoy the sound of amazing singers and on spot musicianship, it will only get better! You won't be disappointed by any song, whatever the line up but mostly live 🤟🏻

Welcome, I am also from the United States, and discovered Nightwish and Floor a little over 2 years ago and they blew my mind. Nightwish is such a talented band, and you never know where they will take you musically, but they will take you if you listen. Floor is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard, you will see she can do anything she chooses vocally, and it is always beautiful, powerful and masterful. I thought great music was a thing of the past until I took my Nightwish Journey, now I am hooked.

Great song! My personal favorite by them. If you think Nightwish is awesome, which they are. Hands down one of the greatest bands on the planet! You should also check out Epica! Simone Simons is the lead singer and she and Floor are very good friends. Another great symphonic metal band is Within Temptation! IMHO Nightwish leads the pack due to personal reasons. I’m sure others will disagree, but that’s what’s so awesome about music, and being our own individuals. We can disagree and move forward! Good luck with your Nightwish journey! I only got one favorite metal band I discovered 2.5 years ago, Nightwish with Floor. I have checked out a lot of other metal bands with front women and they do NOTHING for me. Did I mention, all of Floor's solo stuff the last 3 years are unmatched by any female performer in music. My personal opinion.

The Wacken Open Air Festival is a yearly 3 day show (I think ) with many bands throughout and on this night Nightwish were the headliner with 82,000 people . Floor had only been with the band for 10 months at this show and the crowd was full of mixed fans and the Nightwish fans that were there most had not heard Nightwish with Floor yet but the word was out how amazing she is . may I suggest the song "Bless the Child" from the same show -ruclips.net/video/VTPXvE6o3LY/видео.html

People seem to forget that Floor was in two bands prior to Nightwish, both of which were not only well known in Europe, but popular with Nightwish fans. She didn’t just appear out of thin air. Even back when Tarja was let go, Floor was one of the people fans were hoping would take her place. They knew how amazing she was.

Wacken (pronounced Vah-ken) has been a yearly metal festival in Germany since 1990. Nightwish headlined here in 2013. The act immediately before them was Alice Cooper.
Floor has said that this is one of the more challenging songs for her to sing. Every song at this show was written for one of the first 2 female lead singers, Floor added to the originals and made them her own.
Yes, Marko and Floor sound great singing together. He can drive a band ,and has done so before in Tarot. In Nightwish, he sings on a lot of songs, backing and co-lead and on a few songs lead vocals.
Try Romanticide next and you will get more of Floor and Marko singing together.

What I love about nightwish is that even if the genre or songs arent to your taste there is always something to appreciate, whether its the quality of the instrumentalists and singer of just their energy.
Hi Dean, Floor and Marco both sing at this show together in the songs “Romanticide”, “I want my tears back”, “Song of Myself”, “Last Ride of the Day” (I might have missed 1 or 2). They sound great together. Song of Myself is my favourite of the 4 mentioned.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. 🤘💜🤘 Sweet Reaction! We've been Nightwish fans since 1996 and love this classic song. Floor truly kicked butt singing it. But here's an interesting fact. A couple months ago, on her RUclips page, Floor said this was the most difficult Nightwish song for her to sing. Because Tuomas (keyboardist) wrote it for Nightwish's original singer, Tarja, whose operatic range is much higher than Floor's. Floor said, after this tour, Tuomas slowed down this song and lowered its scales to make it easier for Floor to sing. If you watch the Wembley performance of this song, you'll see & hear what she means.
Floor said that Ever Dream is the hardest song for her, because it was made for operatic voice while Floor does it with her full voice. Floor had to belt in the last chorus of the song very high which is very hard to do and in operatic voice it's much easier to reach those notes. Floor could sing this song in operatic voice but she has made the decision not to sing this song like that and I'm not sure about "Tuomas slowed down this song and lowered its scales to make it easier for Floor to sing". Floor has sung much higher stuff so it would be very weird if Tuomas actually slowed down this song and lowered the scales just that Floor would be able to sing this song. It's true though that she hasn't really belted as much in this song anymore so it's easier for her anyway.
male singer is Marko Hietala, long time singer accompanying female singers and taking lead as well as song composition alongside Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, lead and main composer/arranger of the band from their origins in the 1990's. This, and many other popular You Tube performances all come from the 2013 Wacken (Germany) 3 day Open Air Festival, where NW was the main event, before 82.000 fans!. " Ever Dream " is the sixth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Released as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, Century Child, it was the group's first single in two years, following " Deep Silent Complete " in 2000.
The song is more operatic in nature than later works and the music itself is more on the heavy metal side. It is still played live since 2002 until today. And Tuomas, the keyboardist, composer of 98 percent of their songs, and founder of Nightwish is incredible. Jukka on drums, and (although not in this song) Troy on Bouzouki, low whistle, tin whistle, and Eulian (elbow) pipes bring sounds and emotions that no other band on earth can match. Can't speak for the whole cosmos.

Of course, the crowd hadn't been following her for some time. She had been in the band about 10 months at this point and most of the Wacken audience would never have seen or heard her.
Even more impressive, then, the control she has over the audience participation.
We do want Marcos voice alone - try The Islander from Tampere, While Your Lips Are Still Red and High Hopes and you'll see why.
For Marco and Floor good versus evil, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires and Ghost River from this show.
We in Europe are lucky that we have never abandoned rock/metal. Finland is a haven of metal, but here in the UK is perhaps the cradle of the first metal bands.

Tuomas holopainen the keyboard player writes 95% of their music but they are all world class musicians and singers, I too have been to many concerts in my life, old rock and roller from the beginning and have seen the best but the music here has changed and not for the good I've never payed attention to music from other countries till I accidentally heard nightwish now I'm back to listening to new music they are so good my bucket list to see them in person God bless

If you want to get the spirit of the Wacken (Vaken) you need to do "Blind Guardian - Bard Song & Valhalla live at Wacken" , this coming from someone that was there .
Marko is the bassist. Yes, he could 100% be the lead of his own band. Each of these people could. You can't have a musician like Floor and the rest of the band not have some parity with her. It just doesn't work. They all have to be close to the same level. Floor had been with the band for months at this point, and none of these songs were written for her voice. She learned the setlist in 48 hours. That's stupefying. The imagination staggers and fails. And this is live. No second takes. It's easy to fall in love with Nightwish.
Here you have met Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both in harmony and solo.
A fan favorite with Marko singing lead, is a Pink Floyd tribute to High Hopes, live End Of An Era 2005. This song is so amazing that David Gilmore himself is a fan!
Keep in mind that none of the songs from this Wacken (pron: VAW-Kehn) 2013 concert, were written for Floor Jansen (pron: YAWN-Sehn). She had only been with the band for 10mos at this filming. She manages to masterfully make the songs her own, bringing both power, and emotion to each!
In Scandinavia, you can hear Rock and some Metal (depending which Country it is) on the Radio, but there is still so much of 3 min. pop songs on the Radio. And thats kind of the challenge, for Bands like Nightwish, their music take the time it takes, if its 7 min. it is 7 min. its not boiled down so it can fit the Radio, just as if you take another example in good old Iron Maiden their Songs are long as well. but what is impressive is that its live, its not with all that "studio magic" that certain artist uses to make it sound great, take Ghost Love Score its over an hour into the Set and Floor still sounds amazing.

Yep - you are spot on - no American band do Symphonic Metal. But I can assure you that it is huge in Europe, South America and Asia - and it is a growing genre!
And you have still only scratched the surface of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities - maybe 10 - 12% at most!! - Nightwish are going to blow your mind completely. This is composed music - not written. Tuomas (keyboard) finds a story he wants tell - he writes the lyrics ( complexed, poetic and with often with quotes from poets or scietist) - and then he composes the music to enhance to story. And then Floor adds her powers to enhance the story further - just like the other musicians in the band.

This was Floor's first tour with Nightwish. At this point she was still a fill-in vocalist to complete the tour. You are correct Dean. Marko (bassist) was the lead vocalist for his previous bands. He also does take the lead vocals on some songs for Nightwish.
Wacken may be the biggest metal festival in the world. 4 days and almost 100 bands from all over the world converge on the small town of Wacken, Germany to rock the world. 82000 + fans for this show on this day.

I'm not sure if someone prior to this comment has pointed out regarding your comment "The crowd knew what to expect" was directed toward Floor singing- or at least that's how I took it. Here's a little context to Floor's timeline with them beginning in October 2012 when Annette and Nightwish parted ways in the middle of a US. tour and the band reached out to Floor and gave her 72 hours to fly from Europe to Seattle and learn the setlist on the way. Wacken Open Air took place the first weekend of August 2013, 10 months after she first joined. She was not made a permanent member of the band until Oct 2013. The band cut their first album featuring Floor as the lead singer in 2015. So while the 80+K audience members were familiar with the songs, I'm not too sure if they were familiar with the vocalist. Ever Dream was the 5th of 15 songs (and GLS was 13 of 15).

Floor and Marco together is so amazing. Songs like I Want My Tears Back, and Greatest Show On Earth proves that to the moon and back.
Also check out BABYMETAL if you haven’t already. I just discovered them some three weeks ago, and I am blown away like 43 times a day by this holy awesomeness. When your head finally wraps around the impressions collision, it just hits so good. Their vids is bordering to art, some of them, and the live shows are fireworks n’ rollercoasters that boosts your will to live by 37%, if not more.

Floor is 183cm, or a shade over 6'. But in these concerts wears 3-4" heels, so....
A correction: Jansen is danish name. -sen endind hints to that. Floor herself beinf from Netherlands. That J is not pronounced like J in english. It's more like Yahnsen.

I think the reason they’re not big in the States is because their songs are too long. The primary purpose of a radio station is not to play songs, but rather to play commercials. That’s where the money is and the reason that mainstream artists keep their songs in the 3-4 minute timeframe. Many stations even speed up the songs by about 4% to make room for even more commercials. In the past few days Floor released her first solo single (3.5 mins) in an effort to break into that mainstream. Hope she makes it. Glad you came back to nightwish obviously. This will sound very cheesy, but if you're just a little into metal and enjoy the sound of amazing singers and on spot musicianship, it will only get better! You won't be disappointed by any song, whatever the line up but mostly live 🤟🏻

I'm a little passed at you. first off, I'm in America and totally agree with you on the music scene here. you discover nightwish and rave over their music. where's wacken names, song's etc. fans including myself waste our time giving you all kinds of info. so to thank us for our time helping you....you never come. that's ok.
