Yes the lyrics were written by the late Freddie Santos way back in the 80’s. He wanted me to help write music for an original Filipino musical First Name. This was the first song written for it.
His were the lyrics while I wrote the melody to it.

In a recent Interview Gary spoke about arranging the song and how he tried to guide her to his vision for it, but the most important thing was he told her "Mori, People know you can sing, they have heard you sing..I dont want them to hear you sing I want them to hear your heart", And she delivered...as always.

Maam, Gary rearranged this song because he wanted Mori to pour emotions into it and thats exactly what she did with Humility, Vulnerability and touches you to the core whether you are Believer or not.

Morissette became a born-again Christian a couple of years ago. Because she sings with her God-given talent, in my humble opinion, it tells me that she was not "acting" when she sang this in one take. It came from within her heart and soul, her love for our Almighty Father. I'm certain she has gone through some things, in her life, that made her connect to these beautifully written lyrics, hence the tear she sheds at the end. But, I'm almost certain that she sang it to all of us who have been and are going through tough things in our own lives. She sings this to tell us and remind us that all we have to do is ask Him to heal us, to teach us, forgive us as well as deliver us from all that we go through daily. She is a stupendous artist no matter what she sings because she does have the unique ability to tell the story of the lyrics and make us feel the emotions of the words. Thank you for your reaction. She is one in a billion and I can only hope millions of other find out who she is and through her, learn that you don't have to be a cookie-cut artist and lower yourself to a music industry that promotes sinful behavior, disgusting fashion, vulgar lyrics, etc. to be an incredible singer!!

I heard an interview with Gary and he said he wrote this song for a play back in the 80's/90's. He also did the orchestration in his home studio. He says he doesn't even read music he plays by ear. The guy is incredible and don't get me started on Mori.
Garry didn't write the song, a friend did. Garry did write the music score.
This was written by the late Musical Director, Mr. Freddie Santos. Gary Valenciano did the arrangement. Pls check out Mori’s other OPM (Original Pilipino Music) songs like Diamante (Diamond), Panaginip (Dream), Di Mapaliwanag (Can’t be explained), Naririnig Mo Ba (Do You Hear Me/it)?, Throwback, You & I, & the 2 recent songs she & her bf/fiancee, Dave Lamar co-wrote & produced - ‘Love You Still & Phoenix. Pls turn on the CC/English subtitles when listening to the Tagalog/Pilipino songs to appreciate more the performances. Yes, there are a lot of great singers here but there are a lot who can’t sing also (LOL). You have such an gentle and inspiring way about you, the way you encourage us as aspirers. It feels really motherly and kind.
This song was composed (lyrics) in 1988 for a play called FIRST NAME, by F Santos (Fred Santos passed on late 2020), and Gary V. composed the music (arranged/orchestrated). Gary would usually include this song in his concert repertoire since early 90s. So many ppl have been inspired, moved by this song.

Eric Santos wrote the lyrics who sadly passed away just before Christmas 2020, Gary just done the arrangement, Gary specifically asked Morissette to do a new arrangement of this song, in MEMORY of Eric.
It was the first time Gary rearranged one of his songs for another artist to sing. Big honor for Mori.

The official MV is on the Stages Sessions channel, (Stages is her talent agency) Freddie Santos, who passed last Dec. wrote the lyrics, took the words to Gary, and together wrote the music that night, into early morning. Gary made is OPM Gospel popular, but wanted to rearrange it, and have Morissette sing it. Dave and Mori's team did the video, and commented on the official MV, the whole team were effected during shooting. With videos from Morissette's channel, no need to pause, but always nice to get a reactors opinion a cple of times during the song.
