That one sizz-suck in the cymbals in that fast section sold the entire phrase for me. I love cymbal lines and feel like when done right, can add a lot to both the battery, and the corps as a whole
I feel like Colts got so much better as a corps (and drumline) as soon as they started focusing on being as fundamentally sound as humanly possible. Idk how else to explain it, they are extremely detail oriented, that makes a huge difference in your approach. It almost feels like they’re playing smarter, not harder.
Vicki and Jeff MacFarlane taking over the corps has been a huge boon. Been getting more and more competitive and moving away from HS style shows over the last ~10 years. Helps that they’re financially stable, too.
@@Richey13 financial stability unlocks so much. not taking anything away from the MacFarlanes or the rest of the staff, but money eventually becomes the factor that enables consistency in quality. more options in equipment, staff, design, everything across the board
Feeling this book! These guys are cooking early. Big shout-out Ryan Carr! Fern Creek Alumni. Do you love an underdog story? This kids story is what dreams are made of. From Fern Creek to Morehead St. ,Triple Crown Indoor, to Colts last year, then section leader this Colts this year. Amazing dude!
I know we’ve been sitting at 9 snares for awhile now…any thoughts of going back to say 10 or 12? Always love the Float lines of the 80’s: 12 snares, 5 or 6 tenors, 5 or 6 basses!
There you go! Finally some Red Team! I've been at four shows since late June (including Dubuque last Thursday) where I've gotten live reads on them. They've made so much progress since the beginning of the season. The consistent and focused approach the corps is using will really pay off at Indy.
I said "They look bored" for you when I was watching that first half. Everything about the playing style def works better at faster tempos. But if they stay in that mid-tempo range, I agree....they need to stylize.
Couldn’t disagree more with the ‘big motion’ push. This is my recent favorite battery because they play with temperance and control and don’t try to hype, they just play clean.
I dig their show but the arrangement of first circle for the brass, not a big fan. Some of the best uniforms/costumes this year as well. Henshaw doing some amazing visual work there. 🎉
Was wondering if you guys liked my idea I proposed on the last video about the community reaction on a discord. Also do you guys have any good resources on becoming better teachers/techs? Or do you think it would be in the books to maybe make some videos talking about teaching experiences and what you would recommend ?
We have thought about the discord community before. We already have a server, that’s what we use to record our episodes and link up with our guests. The teaching could be an interesting episode. I’ll add it to the list of topics.
Thanks again for the share! This was a fun vid to shoot! Colts are hot again this season and I can’t wait to see them in August
Proud to be an alumni of this drumline. It's been great to see their progress over the past couple seasons.

Love that Bass run underneath the snares!
Sound and Playing consistency across the board! Snares are crisp crisp crisp!
You should do late season comparison videos. I think it would be really cool to see you analyze them
Snares great approach to the drum 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁😎😎😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Snare and tenor blend fantastic!

Nice blend of snares, tenors, and basses!
I will say their line's level of playing has far surpassed their old stuff. These last few years they've been pretty solid
Basses nice warm sound indeed!
Nice back sticking!
Mike “This Schpeel is getting long I need to take a few short breaths” Fantini 😁😁😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥁🥁🥁

Finally get faster hand speed and velocity around the tenors!

For the algorithm. ✊
More SPOCK rolls please so Mr. Spock can say: Fascinating! 😁😆🖖🏻
A comment for the code!

The can "pop" is cool, but please get rid of the "sip sound" from Mike...love you guys!
Best part of the day pt 2

@@agedoutpodcast sweet! I just started my journey into teaching with my old highschool. And it’s very different. I’m trying to learn as much as I can
I think Gary lagstrom liked this video a lot
😂
Just a heads up you’ve put the Blue Devils in the description instead of the colts lol
Fixed. Appreciate the heads up
Perhaps Bored Drummer Face?!?!
