I wish Lego would do more unlicensed themes in the future. As a kid I only collected star wars and Indiana Jones but looking back I regret not seeing how great those unlicensed themes were. I did however collect Dino since I had discovered Jurassic park in 2010.
This is basically a Brick Theory, and I'm happy you made it. Yes, my previous LEGO videos were focused on the lore of themes. But the concept expanded from a deep dive into LEGO culture and business practices from the perspective of a consumer. And the way you researched was very well thought out
Thank you for the support Joey! Your blessing means a lot my friend. Your work with Brick Theory has definitely inspired me in many ways, but I think it's also pushed me to add my own touch to LEGO video essay type content. I think a lot of our questions can be answered with the financial information LEGO provides every year which, while limited, can still help put together simple answers that can later be fleshed out. As an accounting major, I genuinely enjoy taking a look at income statements and balance sheets as they are quite valuable!
Maybe it is cynical of me to say this, but, maybe reason why lego doesn't do non-licence themes these days.... Is because those theme's didn't sell that well, or at least in later waves. Chima and Nexo Knights were themes that were suppoustu be next "Ninjago like series'" and yet after 3 year, or waves, they ended. Heck, for all the nostalgia people have for things like Rock Raiders and Adventure, they sometimes forget that they got discontinued probadly because they didn't sell well enought to get more sets. And no, I'm not of "if it sell's it's good, and if not, it's bad" mind set. But there is a reason why Ninjago is still going, and the rest of Lego story themes are things of the past. And that's comming from a guy who grew up on Atlantis, Power Miners, and Bionicle. And wished they stayed for longer.
@@valgorie1811Knowing live, sooner or later they will try make a new original theme. All that I really wish for it is... Let's hope this won't have the same fate as Hidden Side.
Yes, Rock Raiders and Adventurers might have suffered that fate, but most of these themes did not. Atlantis was a HUGE success for LEGO, and if these unlicensed story themes were all failing, why would LEGO continue to release them? yes Galaxy Squad was a flop, but not all were.
@@OurToyWorld True, but there is also 1 more thing... Things like Galaxy squads were made during early 2010s. What worked in 2010->, doesn't mean it will work later/now (the cancelation G2 Bionicle is a example of this). And what was the latest lego original theme... Hidden side, series that shared the fate of Power Miners of only having 3 waves. And mind you this series got advertisements, a youtube show, AND a mobile game just to make kids interested in it. And yet, it still failed. And before you sait it, YES, I know Monkey Kid is a good example of modern themes doing great on there own. But here is a little secret, MK is an acception, not the rule in generall.
Nice overview and video. Would’ve loved if there were set quantities of each theme of the number of sets and model numbers. Wonder if they’ll relaunch any of those themes again ?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence LEGO went heavy on a bucket load of unlicensed during times of financial unease. 1997-2002 was the bankruptcy era and as you said the global financial crisis from 2008-2013. I believe introducing so many unlicensed themes from 2008-2013 helped avoid being affected by the GFC
Space Police II actually came out in 1992 and continued in 1993. Meanwhile the original Space Police was made in 1989. Just thought I'd mention that the theme is older than what you specified in your video. Oh and Orient Expedition (The Adventurers theme set in Asia) came out in 2003, whereas Dino Island was from the year 2000. Only the Egyptian and Amazon themes came out in the 90s.

Just listing this names in the beginning hit me so hard with nostalgia.
God I wish I got the Monster Fighters sets when they were out
Same here Jakey_Boy284. LEGO did some really cool things with that theme (especially with the Haunted House)

This is my childhood right here
i think Pharaohs quest seems more like The Mummy type of sets to me then Indiana jones sets?

What about adventurers which just got a re-vamp in 2024
It's a nice gesture, but it isn't the same as an actual Adventurers theme.

Nice to see that you still upload Richie, keep it up!
Damn, OneBaiOneBrick, that's a name I haven't seen in what,4, 4 and a half years? How you been man? Looking forward to your comeback next month.
@@OurToyWorld Yeah it's been a long time, with me moving which made me take a break, and other things popping up. I just had no time lol
no mention of Bionicle? the OG theme?
Nope, it was evergreen (until LEGO pulled the plug) and wasn't mass released like these other themes
Nice vid Richie!!
Thanks for the support Scott!
awesome work
Thanks for the support, MOTM!

Then we should support dreamzz to show them we want more like that
I’m anti dreamzzz
Disney buying Hasbro and going to an inferior product for for their licensing? Unlikely.
Yo Yo Yo it's humpday
