I also like the added side zipper. I make unlined ones from tourist and event tshirts I rescue from thrift store. I add inside pockets usng the sleeve and slit and add a top button pocket into a seam close to top. I do also stick my rope ends into the bag at corner and sew across so no need for a tab outside the bag. My cording isnt as thick though. I had difficulty lining but didn think to make the lining shorter and top roll in. I have a pair of green suede pants I may try this from. Thanks for the great details.
Nice work. I need to make a few things on my machine. It's always a different way of thinking to sew things to make something specific. The logo looks great that size and color.
Hi. You made the process of threading the cord look so easy. the knitting needle idea is excellent - using a safety pin is so difficult. Did you manipulate the knitting needle in any way?
The Minimalist Maker; Hi Tysm for Sharing this Drawstring backpack Tutorial. I'm Really Like the idea that you shiwn in the video of Adding a Side Seam Zipper; which I think is a Pretty Cool Idea. I really want to make a drawstring bag but I don't have much experience with sewing. How difficult do you think this would be for a beginner to make? I'm also guessing that since there is no pattern you could make it as small or big as you wanted, right?
+Annika E: Hi thanks for sharing your comment. I think I can be of help to you; though I'm not the person whom you expect to reply to you. Anyways First Off this Drawstring backpack bag is NOT Difficult as All & Awesome for Beginners. It Doesn't take long to do. As Long As you know how to Sew A Straight Line. Thats all the Bag is made up of. Straight Lines. Finally Your Right the Bag can be made Small, Midium Or Big they's No Set Measurements For A Project Like This. Hope I've Help. hey so how did you figure out how big to make your back piece based off of the bottom piece? or maybe the question should be, how did you come up with the right size for the back piece and the bottom piece? like what measurements did you use?
I used an A4 paper folded in half as a pattern for the bottom piece and an A3 paper as the pattern for the back piece. I figured they would be the right size for a backpack and easy to find everywhere. No exact measurements needed! :)
The Minimalist Maker which also means that you could have used the same size for the front and back and then just made the bottom whatever size you wanted, right?
I like how you added a zipper, I never would've thought of that!

What kind of leather did you use? I'd love to use something similar since it looks thin yet sturdy.
Very nice. Made it without zipper. Could you tell me how long you cut the cords. Thank you!
Very beautiful backpack and tutorial! Thank you!
This is awesome! I really like that you show how to put the lining in

That's a really cool backpack where I live they're called tula in Spanish. You should make a full size backpack
Yeah, maybe at some point!
It’s amazing! Can you produce and sell this backpack?
How long is cord?

The Minimalist Maker so really, You could make the bottom any shape or size you wanted, depending on how much bottom space you want to have right?
The Minimalist Maker which also means that you could have used the same size for the front and back and then just made the bottom whatever size you wanted, right?
Yes, you can also do that. :) You don't even have to make a bottom piece at all! I just wanted the bag to look better when it's on my back and full.
I don’t sew but this is exactly what I want. Can you make me one please?
How did you learn how to make stuff like this?
Just make, learn, repeat! :D
Where did you get that rope from?? I can't seem to find anything like it
I bought mine from a hardware store in the (boat) rope section! 😊
what is the measurement of the bottom piece?
Does A4 book fit in this backpack? I want to make one for school and I don't know if these measurements are good for me
Lilah I would say yes, as the pattern was a A3-sized one (double of a A4) :)
Also found your channel! Great video, keep it up!
Awesome, thank you! :)
Good Job !!!
will it work with vinyl?
Yes, I think so! 😊
I don't know how you sewed the lining with the leather - where the zipper is.
sorry... just saw that you handstitched it.
The zipper is first sewed to the leather and the lining is later stitched by hand around the zipper. Does this help?
I was trying to buy some of your stuff but your website didnt work
I don't sell anything on my website, so that might be the problem :D
