Akala I hope you read this one day but as a young banker (working for a really big bank) who was born in America who has a Haitian father and Jamaican mother... Words can not express how much you opened my eyes.
Akala...Boy oh boy do I hope you read this comment because it will no doubt bless your heart tremendously... just as you blessed me with this book review! I am a 67-yr old African-American female & embarrassingly…I know almost nothing, (easily less than 2%) about the Haitian revolution. Yet, I am so zealous to learn more and will immediately purchase your recommended 2 Books...Avengers of the New World and The Black Jacobins! Because of the fun way you teach intellectually challenging subjects…I’m easily taking two sets of notes and Learning at an exponential rate! Thank you from my heart to yours! Angel Mariah p.s....”revolutionary happiness” here we come!
is it wrong to say if Akala was my black studies professor I'd be there everyday up front listening intently ...not just cos he's good looking but he's intelligent af so sad there aren't more men like him out there.
Come back to Bristol! Need some help educating people about Colston and Cabot and you touched on it before the relations of sugar refineries in Bristol. Thanks for the reads too.
Oh WOW yes yes yes why don't you do this about different subjects countries political agendas etc I love listening to you...only if you want to please...😊😊😊
Thanks for this Akala, really useful. I'm writing about theatre productions that black practitioners have set in Haiti e.g. Tarell Alvin McCraney's Antony and Cleopatra for the RSC where he cast their first ever black Cleopatra. Shall be heading to listen to your full lecture now!
8:48 - you're forgetting the First Italo-Abyssinian War of 1896 where the Ethiopians under Emperor Melenik defeated the Italians, who had the largest invasion force gathered on the continent at that time... eight years before the Russo-Japanese War.
Shalom Akala Have you heard of the book, From Babylon to Timbuktu: A History of the Ancient Black Races Including the Black Hebrews? If you haven't read it I recommend you have a look, also one chapter from the KJV Bible Deuteronomy 28.
@@aimeecullen3248 I'd imagine youve managed to get a copy by now but if not, I got one from his website a few months ago so they are back in Stock! Well worth the read, great book!
