Back in the '60's I worked at a gas station. A regular customer had a Rambler American sedan and he always wanted his oil checked. It was always a fight to get the hood closed after checking the oil. He complained that we didn't know the correct way and one time he got out of the car to show us how to close the hood. His method bent the hood at the hinges. He was furious but since he did the damage, we weren't responsible. He said he was never coming back and roared off. A few days later he was back with a hammered out hood adorning his Rambler. He never wanted the oil checked after that.
After all the years, I finally know why most square bodies had kinks in the hood. Keep up the good work 👍
I’m 68 and knew nothing about the TACO HOOD.
Thanks for the educational information! 👍
Interesting history on the Taco hood. I never heard of it before this video.
Thanks for explaining the problems of the taco hood. Never to old to learn something.
Agreed!!
As a retired electrical design engineer, I think you nailed the crash test dummy story!
It is hilarious that Red was the supervisor.
I seen that kind of thing a time or 2. Lol
Great video!
5:15 was too good!!
Well it is taco Tuesday!! Thanks for the lesson Professor Bob 🌮🌮
Well Bob, I am very happy I looked at this video of yours. I learned a couple of very valuable lessons. 1st, I never knew why GM engineered that weak point in the hood and 2nd, I'd never even paid attention to that pin at the back of the engine bay or the holes in the hood. Many thanks fr a very educational video! Keep up the good work sir!
Very nicely done. You are one of the few who understands why the hoods TACO! So many people want to blame the hood and not the hinges!
That's some good hood advise.
You should be Proud of yourself Bob great job on that hood and a good education
Great video. Remember seeing those taco hoods back in the day. Back in high school I remember the father of a good friend of mine had a Scottsdale and it was loaded, leather, a/c, chrome out the yazoo. Remember watching the gas station attendant closing the hood after checking the oil and the hood just folded in half. That was not a pleasant ride back to my friend's place.
Look forward to seeing more on the old C10. Be safe and stay well.
Great video Bob. I totally enjoy and love your channel. I do like the square body Chevys. But I really enjoy watching you do the older vehicles. Just watching the transformation of rusted metal turned into a jewel, completely blows my mind. The amount of skill that you have is phenomenal. But all your videos keep me riveted and keep me coming back. Keep up the great work Bob! Keep On Motoring Brother!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Bob again you've outdone yourself, that hood is better than brand new, keep up the nice work and the Sparks a flying 👍
That’s the funniest vid yet, is this the first time a 3rd person has been filming? Great vid Bob!
Every now and then a buddy stops by and I immediately put them to work.
Back in the day I remember buying a fix it bracket that bolted between the hinge and the hood that extended well past the kink. It worked pretty well and wasn't expensive. Keep doing what your doing.
Thanks for the schooling Bob 👍 🇺🇸
👍🏻I like you remedy for the taco hood bob . My 78 ‘ k10 has a taco hood I haven’t gotten around to fixing yet thanks
Great video Bob, you are wise beyond your years. 👍😉✌
BOB, NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW THE PROPER WAY TO CLOSED THE HOOD. THANKS FOR SHOWING THEM!
Bob! Its me uncle rob! Sure is something us old guys get it done! No one stays 22 forever.
Great work getting the hood straightened back out Bob! 🙂👍 Take care 🔧🔩
Very cool video Bob. As always lots of great knowledge shared. Keep on getting it ✌️😎👍
Another great video Bob. Thanks for the lessons.
Remember that MGB? There were three accidental bend spots in that design: Both strut locations, one in the hood and one at the trunk lid. But the most fun one is at the mirror location in each door. The doors were designed to minimize body flex so the hinges and the strike pin were both reinforced. Where does the stress go? Well, the body skin takes a bunch of it. But when you drill three holes for the mirror, you weaken it just enough so that, over time, the stress creates a vertical tear right there. Simply welding the skin won’t get it. You must weld in a thicker backing plate about 4” square. Problem solved.
My 78 Monte Carlo hood is taco’d and weak all under it. I’m going to give it the Rat Rod Bob treatment… got nothin to lose
LOVE YOUR 'VISION' AND ABILITY TO IMPLEMENT ...
I don't know what parallel universe would have Ol Red as a supervisor but I'm pretty sure its a good place!
I had noticed those pins before and wondered what they were for so thanks for the explanation.
And that phrase "fits like socks on a rooster" had me on the floor in stitches!
Cheers!
Thanks for the schooling on the C10 bonnet BOB , seem's like I learn some thing new every day . Cheers .🤔🤠

Very cool Bob how you reverse engineered that hood issue. Work like this is Ninja work. You sneak up on the finished work so as not to make things worse. Great job Bob !
Love the way you say "right there"
Yes sir never pull down on a c10 hood push and pull lol looking good man 🤙
Joe thanks for your expertise from alberta Canada 🇨🇦 awsome means lots your experience is available and great great job
Keep on gitting it bob, you are the man!
You should open a classroom for young humans to learn ratrod calculations. For real
Great lesson 🧐Bob
When you close those hoods it helps if you push the hood in towards the cab and wiggle it till the spring pressure releases slightly then pull it down, instead of just pulling it straight down from the get go.
Lubing those hinges like bob says is critical too.
Truth.
I never knew that about the hood. Awesome video.
Fantastic Hood Advise BAAAWWWBB ‼️🤗🤗 I KNEW RED HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR HIGHLY CLASSIFIED RATROD TECHNOLOGY OF FIXING THE THAT HOOD BAAAWWWBB ‼️ GBA 🤗🤗 Gary.
Nice fix Bawb, I never really understood why they put that curve across the hood of those trucks but it makes sense
Informative and Very Entertaining!!

Got hungry whatching your video went and got me some Burritos Not tacos. Lol. Great video I enjoy it very much. Cheers Square🕋body Brother.
My dad's 1973 GMC squarebody had the taco'd hood which was the least of it's worries. Body cancer and the floating steering were much worse problems.
Well Bob, thanks for this clarifying explanation over the 'Taco" hood! Looking those vids is learning too, keep up the good work ;-))
Bob, you are entertaining!!

Start Video. Stop video and plug in Big Stereo amp. Turn on Video. I'm ready now Bob. Good tunes brother. Taco Hoods need hot sauce Bob. ROFL at you and Red as your boss. Had to replay that part.
Take them big springs off that hinge too. Danged Old Hoods. Chevy knew better then that.
All hail RatRod Bob
Thank you for this video
Bob, when you said "let it be written, let it be done", I thought you were going to sing Creeping Death by Metallica, 😂
I'm digging it too thanks😎
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
Let it be written let it be done. Lol 😂. That’s good stuff. 👍
Thanks Bob
Best way to fix these hoods is to get rid of the hood and get you a fiberglass one lol. I remember my dad's old C10 we were out on the frozen lake coming home from ice fishing and the wind was so strong and the hood so worn that the hood latch came undone and the hood snapped clean in half...flew right over the car fortunately. We replaced it with a piece of Plywood with bondo overtop to match the body lines using the original hinges.
Truck is still together as a farm vehicle 20 years later lol. I imagine the reason the original broke was they used too stiff of steel for what is supposed to be a compliant panel with some give. Too much carbon in their metallurgy.
Nice job.
It’s cool you got a camera person to film you.
It looks good.
Great how too, and an awesome safety dummy story too. (brought smiles, on this end) ... Red with awful quite today, is he under the weather ?
Thanks,I needed that.
You’re welcome 😊
Hey, old Red is gettin' pretty good at holding the camcorder and filming you! 🙂
Taught me something good job
