I have to give this guy major props for being completely honest and raw about his feelings. I feel that he actually gave us important information that I have not heard anyone say before. Especially about his fears because you know we all think it and feel it too.
There was a time in my life that I would have jogged this hike but in my late 50’s I had to quit running completely. Now I know I’ll likely never be able to hike it so THANK YOU for showing me the canyon. Angels Landing is beautiful but treacherous.
Happy to bring it to you! Angel's Landing is beautiful. Seen many videos of it and would love to try it again. We found it's mostly the crowds and navigating around them that is an issue.
More, please. Remember there are few that will never be able to do this. Imagination is a wonderful thing especially when doubled with your video presentation. Thank you so much for your time and effort. Highly appreciated. Stay safe.
Rob Carlson I totally agree....and I’ve watched other awesome ones, too. But this video has so many tips and I’m glad he was honest about how hard/easy parts of the trail are.
I watched the whole thing and loved every minute of it. My videos are long too so I like them around 30 minutes. You Tube viewers don't have what it takes to watch that much though. But I really enjoyed this and you're right in that you EARNED my subscription.
Thank you so much! Yeah, there's so many different ways creators go in terms of length of videos. It's hard to make an adventure like the Narrows short. 😅
@@CactusAtlas I completely agree. Do you on RUclips and don't worry about who cheers and boos you. Do it because you enjoy it and those that like it will follow and those that don't won't. Great to hear and thank you for the feedback! Hopefully one day the opportunity arises for you to experience the Narrows. Even just a short walk through it is awe inspiring. Thanks for watching and the comment! We appreciate it. 😊
Glenn you are a hero for this hike. Loved watching. I opened my book about Zion NP and not a whole lot was mentioned about the Narrows but you brought it to light for me. Great video. Thanks so much.
You asked for our comments concerning your video, and I would have to say that you were captivating. I enjoyed every minute of the video. Thank you for sharing.
This is so beautiful! 🤩 Hereby added to the bucket list 😝 It also reminds me of a hike I did some years ago through the Acheron river canyon in Greece ☺️ The water was freeeezing even in august!
This was awesome. I enjoyed every minute of it. Please continue to show your hikes in entirety … with arthritis I would never be able to make it to the end. I love everything in the southwest. ❤😊
I love this park! Your tips where perfect One thing I would mention "The Narrows closes when the flow rate is over 150 cubic feet per second (CFS), or during spring snowmelt. The trail also closes when a Flash Flood Warning is issued by the NWS, and remains closed for two hours after the warning is lifted. Check the weather before you head into a narrow canyon. I have as much fun watching, as you did pacing it to the end. At sixty, i can not do anything i did when younger. Loved the experience with you, the time worthily spent. Love your travels. Thanks.
I thoroughly enjoyed coming with you on your Zion Narrows adventure. I hiked it 40 years ago having spontaneously traveled there and deciding to stop and see it. I didn’t have special shoes or a walking stick. One kind hiker handed me a walking stick as he passed me going out. I didn’t get very far in before the walls closed in on me and scared me. It got quite dark and intimidating being alone in it. I decided to return so I never reached the end . For me your video didn’t capture how narrow it actually got but you probably couldn’t film those portions due to the limited light. I enjoyed your personality and enthusiasm and would cut none of it. Well done and thank you so much.
Unfortunately we've learned long ago that one can never capture the full scale of how high, narrow or spectacular certain areas are - the Narrows are a perfect example of that. You can never really grasp just what it is like unless you're there. Thanks for watching and your comment. We appreciate it. 😊
We are going there in a few weeks and we weren't sure if we could handle this hike. Thanks SO MUCH for your video - thanks to your video, I think we can do this!
I totally enjoyed the video. I think your commentary was perfect! When watching RUclips videos, there are points when it gets boring and I stop watching. I stayed and watched the entire video. Thank you!
Fantastic video!!! I am local so I have done the Narrows 10 or so times. I have also traveled extensively, and I feel that the Narrows is THE greatest adventure of the National Park Service. I can't even get put off by the horde of people doing it with you. I am just so happy that these people are pushing themselves to see this wonder!! I was praying that you would get beyond where Orderville Creek comes in. I wished you had video'd what I call "The Decision." It is the huge boulder where you got neck deep. I have made it pass that obstruction only 3 times. I sat once for about an hour just watching others attempting to get thru it. The DEEP pool to the left, or the iffy route to the right. If you struggle to get pass that obstacle you spend a few hours with the knowledge that you have to do it all over again later. That is why it is "The Decision." So glad I found this video! I made it to Big Spring in 2019. It will probably be my last time. All day in that river is a bit of a beating. But so worth it.
It’s so true! After I had passed ‘The Decision’ point, I did think about how I had to go back through it. I did not film because I had to put my stuff away in my backpack and hold it high above my head to keep it dry as I crossed through. But I know exactly what you mean. I also had rented equipment from Zion Outfitters and was worried I would not get it back on time if I didn’t hustle, which is why I didn’t film too much around that point onward. But I can say that this experience is among the best of the best in my entire life, if not the best. I hope to be able to do it again soon! Thanks for watching and the amazing comment!
@@CactusAtlas Another way that I have seen people get around The Decision is climbing the rock, or having someone who got on top of it drag them up it.....ha. It definitely thins the crowd out. When you started talking about looking for a place to eat I said to the TV "Just around a corner or two.....you are almost there!!" I love that long beach and its view of what I call the "Gates of Mordor"....where it narrows back up looks like closing gates to me.
I put a life jacket on to get past the decision rock. It was over my head so i went over the boulder and hugged the wall and stepped on rocks you cant see in the water to get past. There was one step to far but a kind persob reached out there hand and helped me make a long stepto the next rock attached to the wall. On the way back i asked somebodys help to get past that spot. I cant swim so i packed a life jacket to get past that spot. Made it to big springs twice.
Thank you so much for making this video! My cousin and siblings love the outdoors and this may be our next big family outing! Bravo also for your commentary and editing. I found it insightful and helpful.
Speaking as a viewer who will probably not ever be able to do this, more video is always better! Spectacular indeed. Thank you for such an enjoyable hike!
Thank you very much! As Glenn said in the video, I can't do hikes like this due to the after effects of that foot injury (or much hikes in general - flat ground and I are far better friends 😂) so even for me, seeing this video the length it was was like being there.
Of the dozens of RUclipsrs who focus on hiking videos, yours are among the top 3 in my opinion. Excellent videos! Very clear and thorough information with great footage to compliment the information. VERY helpful! Thanks a bunch. Would you recommend buying a waterproof backpack ($40) for this hike, or just stick to a regular backpack, which I already have?
I use a regular backpack, and then inside of that, I have a waterproof bag to put electronics and my keys, wallet, phone etc… but yes, highly recommend a waterproof solution of some sort. Especially if you go all the way because likely you will encounter water up to your shoulders once or twice…
@@CactusAtlas We do plan on going all the way, like you did. And I was also planning on using lightweight silnylon dry bags inside my regular backpack. Just wanted your opinion if you thought it would be worth it to get a completely waterproof backpack. In other words, what are the odds that my backpack is going to get soaked?
Just completed the Narrows and wondered what was at the end. The hike was nothing short of amazing!! I stopped at Wall Street , ran out of steam and turned back around. The shoes, socks, and stick saved me! Your video was awesome and on point. Thank you!
The hiking package is totally worth it if one doesn't already own neoprene socks and boots. And Wall Street is a great destination and goal! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. We appreciate it. 😄
I'm planning to go to the narrows this year, but I never thought, about the bathrooms, I don't like the idea the people have to pee on the water. Thanks for you video, as always very nice
My family loved your video! We will be there next week and cannot wait. The length was just right and we worry about peeing all the time :) Thanks for this, you really inspired us!!
Apparently I watched this already about a year ago but hey, worth another watch...and I agree...honey pb's are the best! I have a hard time finding honey already in it now...happened when covid happened...sometimes I can find it but it's rare, so I just started adding honey...tastes even better!
This is the most helpful video I’ve seen to help us prepare for a family trip next weekend! Still trying to decide on old hiking shoes or renting the footwear package, and a hiking stick. I doubt we would do the whole thing but hope to get to the narrow part like you recommend!!
Why thank you! One thing I can say about the rental footwear is that I think the neoprene socks you get as part of it were worth it on its own. Probably saved me from a few bad blisters. Another thing I didn’t show in the video is by the end of the day, I had a nasty blister from using the hiking stick all day on my thumb. If I did it again, some kind of glove or hand protection would be a good thing. But, if you don’t go all the way, those issues might not be as bad. Best of luck! I’m sure you will be amazed! Such a epic hike!
Hello Kitty we rented boots for one of my daughters that really wanted it, the rest of us wore old hiking boots. We all had poles that I bought on amazon because it was the same price to buy as it was to rent and they were awesome. I wouldn’t have wanted to hike it without the poles and we used them other times in the trip as well. The boots did seem to provide really good ankle support for my daughter. It was very much like walking on bowling balls under water!
This was excellent and I'm glad you did the entire trail. I'm heading to Zion in October and this is perfect. I'll get a flashlight too. Thank you for the suggestion on the shoes too! Great job!!!
Zion is our very favorite park in the USA. don’t tell anyone about it or it will get overrun. We hiked the narrows probably 20 years ago but couldn’t go as deep as you did because the water was probably 50% higher and much faster. It was absolutely beautiful and amazing. Thanks for going to the end of the canyon. It was wonderful to see the waterfall at the end.
I've no doubt that there are many times that the trail would be difficult to get to the end without some floating through parts because of higher water levels. Which is a shame as it prevents some, as you noted, to not reach the end. Happy to have brought you the rest of the way with us! 😊
Your video was interesting and the perfect length. I watched the whole thing. I do not normally watch that long unless it is interesting. Just came back from Zion but the water had some kind of bacteria in it so they did not recommend going in. Now I want to do the Narrows even more.
This was an outstanding video because you give so much handy information. Thank you! We will bring peanut butter and honey sandwiches for sure! My biggest concern is what do we do if there is a flash flood while we are in the canyon?!!!
Thanks so much for the comment! As for flooding, so long as you keep an eye on the weather, you should be okay. If in doubt, ask a ranger. They keep an eye on things and will know of any potential risks there might be before setting out.
What a beautiful and informative video. I’m glad I was able to understand how difficult it can be for a young female of 60+. Now I can go and enjoy only a couple of miles for the experience. Thank you so much!
THIS IS AWESOME. What a fantastic hike. Definitely wish we were there right now. Eating a PB and J and eating up those views... beautiful place. Here's to 2021 and more awesome hiking adventures to come!
I came across your channel the other day while I was searching for info on the Mather Campground. I've subscribed, and I'm hooked! I think I have watched the majority of your videos. I've been wanting to plan a trip to Zion, and this video has been so helpful! Thanks again!!
My wife and I will be hiking the Narrows next weekend. You provided some very helpful information that we will be able to use. BTW the video was the perfect length.
Amazing views. A long video is perfect on this type hike. I didn't know until I watched your video that the Narrows was a hike thru water. Excellent video. Thank you.
I was there last weekend. Flow rate was 10x normal. Closed. It was brutally fast current. Likely best time would be in Fall because its drier usually with no flooding or snowmelt upstream
Knowing how streams have been here in Arizona and the amount of snow Utah had as well, I can only imagine what the Virgin River has been like lately. Certainly not something safe for anyone to enter and hike in. Not to mention it's probably still incredibly frigid! 🥶
This is a perfect length of a video for me! At least I’ve seen the end part of the Narrows! Thank you so much for this video coz I felt I’ve “been there and done that”. ❤️❤️❤️
So impressed by the people who walk effortlessly over these rocks! I am from Florida and I did a relaxing tube float down the Friyo river in Texas….could not navigate the rock bottom when standing!
I'm like you. As Glenn mentioned in the video, I couldn't do it because an injury some time ago really did a number of my right foot and balance isn't something I'm great with anyway. BUT! I am told the boots really help a lot to get some grip and absorb a bit of the "walking on rocks" feeling. Thanks so much for watching our video! We appreciate it. 😊
Thanks! Can’t believe it was already about a year since I filmed that in September 2019. Maybe a couple weeks ahead of when you are going. It was a beautiful time of the year to go. Have an amazing time!
I just hiked the Narrows last month. It was awesome. We got just past the deepest place you went through. I purchased water shoes before we left. They worked fine. We did rent the sticks and I think they are essential. This was the perfect length and it shows what it is really like. I know what you mean about getting the the paved area on the way back. It was tiring walking on bowling balls all day. But not a difficult hike. I am 63 and not out of shape, but I am not a fitness fanatic and I could do this hike. Thanks for taking us along.
You're right... it's not a hard hike for most people, but walking on the rocks for the majority of a day can tire out the feet a bit. Thanks for watching and the kind comment! 😄
I truly enjoyed your hike through the Narrows. I am planning on doing that hike at some point. I also enjoyed your video hike through Little Wild Horse Slot Canyon. I do plan on doing that hike also. I'm sure you spend a lot of time doing these hikes especially when it comes to camera placement, walking back and then walking towards the camera. You make the production of your videos look easy. Your videos are very informative. Thank you and great work!!!
Oh gosh... thank you so very much! We're incredibly happy that our videos were helpful to you and hope you have some amazing hiking adventures in your future. 😄
It takes a lot to earn my 'Like' this has been so far an honest to goodness account of the Narrows hike that I have seen at this time. Well done Sir! What's missing is probably the time stamp on major points of the hike at landmarks/locations.
26:56 just my opinon but you should always have a flashlight on you on any hike whether or not its recommended. the reason you gave should apply to any hike. you never know if you end up lost or end up taking longer than you expected!

I'm planning to go to the narrows this year, but I never thought, about the bathrooms, I don't like the idea the people have to pee on the water. Thanks for you video, as always very nice
It's stuff like bathroom needs that one might overlook before hiking there. Or at least that was our case. 😅
Don’t Change a Thing The Cactus Atlas Perfect Video Young Man Congratulations
My family loved your video! We will be there next week and cannot wait. The length was just right and we worry about peeing all the time :) Thanks for this, you really inspired us!!
Happy to hear! Hope you and your family have an amazing trip! Thank you so much for the comment. 😄
Not only did I enjoy your hike immensly but the information on the boot rental was great.
Thanks so much! Happy it was helpful! ☺️
I thought you did a great job on all the info for this hike. Hubby and I love Zion it's a must visit. We hiked once but need to go again. Thx.
Thank you!!! Zion is a must-see for sure!
I’m binge watching your channel. Grand Canyon, bells canyon, now this one. You are one awesome tour guide!!
Awesome! Thank you so much and welcome! 😄
Apparently I watched this already about a year ago but hey, worth another watch...and I agree...honey pb's are the best! I have a hard time finding honey already in it now...happened when covid happened...sometimes I can find it but it's rare, so I just started adding honey...tastes even better!
Always appreciate it. 😄👍
Tracee Wade what did you guys end up doing? Renting gear?
Thanks so much! Enjoy your upcoming trip! Hope you have a great time and glad we could help in any way. 😀
Awesome video. Thank you.....
Thank you too! 👍
Thank You So Much for Taking us All with You on your Hike Through the Narrows The Cactus Atlas Cheers Mate Love your Channel
This video got me subscribed, regular guy with amazing story!
Welcome and thanks! 👍
Absolutely fantastic video. I loved the whole thing. Definitely not too much. Its on my bucket list. Thank you for the hiking tips too. Gorgeous!
Thank you and you're absolutely welcome! I hope you get to scratch this one off your bucket list some day! 🤞
The narrative was great and very informative.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. 😄
Everything about this video is perfect! Very informative and awesome!
The Adventure Buddies thanks so much!
Ahhhh… I miss the beard.
I love Zion but, not brave enough to hike the Narrows!
You are adorable😊
I'm not either, that's why I'm glad Glenn does. 😅 I think he's pretty adorable too. 🥰
Great video brotha. I would like to have seen the fork where you can go right into a slot canyon that i keep reading about.
Your video was interesting and the perfect length. I watched the whole thing. I do not normally watch that long unless it is interesting. Just came back from Zion but the water had some kind of bacteria in it so they did not recommend going in. Now I want to do the Narrows even more.
Thanks so much! That bacteria seems to have lasted quite a while. Have heard many stories about it preventing hikes into the Narrows. 🤔
I am leaving in 2 days to hike the narrows... are they closed due to the bacteria?? Did you still go in?
Your best bet would be to contact the park to find up to date information. 👍
www.nps.gov/zion/contacts.htm
This was an outstanding video because you give so much handy information. Thank you! We will bring peanut butter and honey sandwiches for sure! My biggest concern is what do we do if there is a flash flood while we are in the canyon?!!!
Thanks so much for the comment! As for flooding, so long as you keep an eye on the weather, you should be okay. If in doubt, ask a ranger. They keep an eye on things and will know of any potential risks there might be before setting out.
Today is epic. Thank you for such an in-depth description of this trail. You have showed it for what it is.
Our pleasure! Thanks so much for watching! 😄
This is one of the most informative videos on The Narrows. Thank you for taking the time to inform us.
No problem! Glad it helped! Thanks for letting us know!
What a beautiful and informative video. I’m glad I was able to understand how difficult it can be for a young female of 60+. Now I can go and enjoy only a couple of miles for the experience. Thank you so much!
Thanks! Happy to have helped in any way. Any amount of miles there is worth it so no doubt you'll have a great time. 😄👍
THIS IS AWESOME. What a fantastic hike. Definitely wish we were there right now. Eating a PB and J and eating up those views... beautiful place. Here's to 2021 and more awesome hiking adventures to come!
Thanks so much! Here's hoping 2021 allows for many many more adventures for everyone!
Wow. Gorgeous area!
Isn't it though? Doesn't seem real but it is. Thanks for checking our video out. 👍
excellent images
Thanks so much. 👍
I appreciate that you are a completionist. I hate to turn around if a trail keeps going.
I'm not a big fan of setting limits on things either.
I came across your channel the other day while I was searching for info on the Mather Campground. I've subscribed, and I'm hooked! I think I have watched the majority of your videos. I've been wanting to plan a trip to Zion, and this video has been so helpful!
Thanks again!!
Wow, thanks so much! So glad to be of help!
My wife and I will be hiking the Narrows next weekend. You provided some very helpful information that we will be able to use. BTW the video was the perfect length.
Glad you found some of the info helpful! Hope you have an amazing experience! 😄
I like how you described the boulder climbing as fancy, I would have said it the same haha, thanks for this thoroughly awesome and informative video
Anytime! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! 😄
Wow looks like a visually stunning hike
Amazing views. A long video is perfect on this type hike. I didn't know until I watched your video that the Narrows was a hike thru water. Excellent video. Thank you.
It would be hard to condense such an epic hike into a short video honestly. 😅 Thanks for watching, commenting and hopefully we were a help!
Thank you for sharing this. I love the scenery.
Thanks! The scenery can't be beat there. Nothing like it! 😄
This is the best video I saw about the Zion Narrows Hike. I hope that I can do this hike next year (if we can travel to the States again)
Thank you so much for your feedback! Many well wishes and good luck so that you may be able to visit and hike the Narrows. It's definitely worth it!
Great Vid!!!
Thanks!
I would love to make this hike. Some day.
It's such an amazing experience. Hopefully that one day is soon for you. 👍
Thanks for sharing. Love your video. I watch to the end; I did not skip at all.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for your detailed information, I learned a lot from your RUclips, I really appreciate you!
Happy to help! Thanks so much for watching. 😊
Excellent!
Not too long.
You did a great job!
Thank you!
Heading out later in September and this video is priceless for our planning- thank you!
Thanks! Was just actually out that way a week ago or so. Was beautiful as always!
perfect time i think
Awesome to hear. Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
great video awesome we are coming up to do that hike on Sept/28 so excited
Thanks! Can’t believe it was already about a year since I filmed that in September 2019. Maybe a couple weeks ahead of when you are going. It was a beautiful time of the year to go. Have an amazing time!
Just arrived to Zion this eve. I’m determined to do The Narrows! Thx for the vid!
Have fun! Definitely check out the Narrows if you can!
Excellent video 📹!
Thank you! 😄
Good video, informative
Thank you!
@@CactusAtlas Thanks Buddy.
Very well made and informative! Thanks
You're very welcome! Glad it was helpful! 😄
This is awesome. The park gives all nessesary information. The current is quiet strong. Interesting
Thanks for watching! 😄
It takes a lot to earn my 'Like' this has been so far an honest to goodness account of the Narrows hike that I have seen at this time. Well done Sir! What's missing is probably the time stamp on major points of the hike at landmarks/locations.
Ah! That is an excellent suggestion. The things we see we forgot in hindsight. 😅 Thanks so much for watching and the suggestion. Appreciated! 👍
Great video, thank you. We are going next week.
Thanks for watching! Hope you have a fantastic time there. 😄
You did excellent work! THANKS!!!!!
Thank you too! Glad it was helpful. 😀
26:56 just my opinon but you should always have a flashlight on you on any hike whether or not its recommended. the reason you gave should apply to any hike. you never know if you end up lost or end up taking longer than you expected!
Very good advice! 👍
What an awsome video ! Thank you .You description was so good...
Thank you very much! Happy to provide any help or entertainment. 😄
