I learnt about private liability insurance around a month after moving to Germany. When I did, I bought it the same evening and went to sleep immediately after, so that I won't cause any damage before it starts covering me after midnight 🤣🤣

@@michaels2208 Hey Michael, I just saw your comment and instantly got 'worried' virtually for you talking about your serious plans about Germany and then Duolingo. Now, it really depends on where do you find yourself currently in learning the language. Back in the day I've done a lot of Duolingo, and in fact that included for me some portion of lost time and nerves. 😅 It's a fun and fine option for absolute starters. The reply above is 100% true about it, however bear in mind that when using it through the web browser (instead of the phone app) it does provide every now and then grammar explanations, but they will only make you wanna cry about how to make sense of German grammar.. 😅ok, I hate to say this, but it's true, at least for me it was. If you have watched some earlier videos here, Jen goes int some details of her experience and then taking a Lingoda course - the very right decision for someone like you. You can additionally boost your understanding grammar, and I really mean Understanding it, through Anja Winter, she's an amazing teacher and her channel Learn German With Anja did help me big time (and she makes all her viewers actually type in German in the comments, the answers to her questions, which I regret not doing then😆) This is only by assuming you are below or at least reaching B1 level, and this is my take on how to stop scratching your head in desperation, what I've dne a lot with Dulingo. 🙃

I'm planning my move to Germany from Argentina and your videos have been very useful!
I have some suggestions for future videos:
    - Birthdays in Germany (what do you eat, do you invite people to your house or meet at a place?, gifts, do you send cards?)
    - Partying in Germany (times, pregame, etc)
    - election system and a brief explanation of the parliament would be very useful (this in my case would be especially useful, because I was born and raised in Argentina but also have the German citizenship so Ican vote. But also is very important to expats living in Germany to understand the political affairs of the country they lived in)
    - Integration Course: there is this course that you can do if you are moving to Germany in which they teach you German and different stuff about Germany. Sometimes is mandatory to do it but in most cases it isn't. But I haven't been able to find much information about it than what I've just told you. I think would be very useful if you can do a video explaining how do I sing up, fees, how must take the course, etc.

In most cases you need an official letter from the german court ("Tittel") that the guy is bankrupt, wich means that you are in trouble first.

Omg, finally someone explained why if I cause someone physical damage - it's not necessarily covered by the regular health insurance of that person! I've been wondering about it for so long, didn't make any sense to me, thanks so much!
I've also faced the same reactions as Jen when I told people I didn't have such an insurance :D I of course have it now and it hasn't come to using it so far, phew :D But we did damage a curtain that belonged to the landlord and now he wants to subtract the cost of it from the deposit, and of course it turned out to be a specially made fancy-ass curtain, so I dunno, maybe we will tell him alright, give us a receipt or something and our insurance will cover it. We'll see, but good to know you have insurances, to at least use as leverage sometimes! (we also have legal insurance and we will totally use this fact in our dispute with him)

These explanations and examples are just what every and any person living/planning for Germany should definitely listen to! The laws are strict and people come from so many countries with different laws, some people like me from countries with easily evasive laws. In recent times I have started seeing ads on the TV about our private liability insurance, but it is still highly unpopular. Honestly, I first heard about it in your older video.. I think it was about the culture shocks dating a German. 😃 The dramatic part of explaing is a thing that can happen and you do well including it. And this example of the cyclist that gets hit, breaks their arm, but then the person is a tennis player.. you speak about the various and also mutual aspects of damage, which is something you can't see about everywhere, thank you for doing so!... I enjoyed the part where Yvonne is short of disagreeing on ski and snowboard being 'extreme sports' 🤣I can understand both mentions.

I have a concern though. How does the insurance company know exactly what happened? How do they make sure of it? In my country for instance, insurance companies are hard to get any penny from them as they ask for a lot of evidence, despite the fact that they are all accidents that happen in a glance! The idea for the private liability insurance in Germany is that most people here will be more or less law-abiding, don't want to cause damage, pain and suffering out of sheer fun and audacity.
So the premiums for such an insurance will be very low. But if you get known as a roudy customer willing to take extreme risks just for the fun of it, going around damaging property and injuring other people out of neglect or even intentionally, then you will either have massive increases to your private liability insurance premiums, or you will actively be kicked out by them for multiple proven intent.
Basically don't be a psychopath and you can have pretty much peace of mind that you will be burdened with outrageous liability costs for a very affordable premium.
More or less the idea for the first article of the German Grundgesetz, the German constitution: "Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar. Sie zu achten und zu schützen ist die Aufgabe aller staatlicher Gewalt." / "Human dignity IS inviolable. To honor and protect it is the task of all stately powers."
Treat others with dignity, and you and your rights will be fine and honored. Be an ass, and look where your actions will take you.
That's what all German laws are supposed to be centered around. Including such things as the liability insurance which are governed by the German laws as well.

Rule of thumb with insurance, if it's too cheap (like 3euro per month) don't get it. It's a scam and insurance companies are scaring you. Getting hit by lightning has the same probability but you don't need an insurance for it unless you live on a mountain.

    • @merrydiscusser6793
      @merrydiscusser6793 2 года назад +2

Honestly, that depends on two things:
1: How likely something is to happen.
2: How big of an impact does it have.
For example your lightning strike. 250 people are hit in Germany per year with lightning. 10 of them die. Is 3€ a month really that much if it were to stop you from that chance of death?

Your right, most of our claims are peanuts and easy to proceed (under 150 Euro), this is why nowadays most claims can be paid out completly with the help of AI. More important for you as a customer is, that your insurance will help you avoid any claims from anybody wich are not OK or simply to high. So you can see the liability insurance as kind of a legal protection service. And I think this is definitely worth the 40 to 90 Euro a year.

This is the most bizzare insurance plan i have ever heard.

@@tpabstdd this is nothing but creating insecurity for the sake of it so that people buy insurance. What are the chances i am going to break a Tennis player's hand ? If you think like that then there are chances of many things happening.

@@Valkyri3Z I agree, the way how most insurance products are sold are not better than a anything that could possibly end in cancer. And I´m pretty sure that you will not meet any professional tennis player that unlikely way that you destroy his carreer, me neither. So let´s get into real talk. What if your washing machine loose that much water, that the one who lives in the flat downstairs has to renovate his kitchen or bathroom? This is a very common scenario (costs: up to 5000 Euro). What is also common: Given that you rent a drilling machine or some fancy sport gadet (eg. a small boat or an E-Bike), because you are a not used to use it you use it in a slightly wrong way and damage something or somebody. Who pays in this case? Or your grandfather who suffer of Alzheimer desease mixed up the new nurse with some bitch from his youth and hit her ass that much that she cant come to work next few weeks. Who pays? Or your son (older than 7 years) throw in school break a stone to another kid, because he tried to insult him badly. Happend two weeks ago in our agency. Worst case, but not unreal: Same son tries his new longboard, doesnt come to break properly before the sidewalk ends. Two cars with a familiy collide, one parent gets injured. In the end you as the one who had to take care of your sons business, will pay a personal compensation for that injury as well as the salary for the time the guy can not work and you also have to pay extra costs like all the legal fees that are needed for getting you pay. If the guy has kids you will also pay a nanny and if he dies you will pay his child support for all of his kids. What do you think about that? Sounds it realistic enough for you and your life?

How about a water damage in the flat you rent or at the neighbour you caused because of your broken washing maschine or because you are on holidays and noone can fix it without help from the fireworkers

@@tpabstdd I think either that person is the unluckiest person in the world to have all this incidents happen to him all in one life or even any one of these incidents are caused just paying out the person will be cheaper than paying the insurance company your whole life every month.🤣

Hello, I really like your videos. Thanks for making useful content!
I’m interested in getting the liability insurance from Getsafe. I tried using the affiliate link from the description, but it’s not showing any €15 discount. Just wanted to check if I’m doing something wrong or the discount is no longer applicable.
    Let me know 🙂

Hey Nikhil, thanks! We just double checked the link and the credit should be applied once you take out the insurance. For us it states 'three month free', which could be up to six months, depending on your monthly premium. Give it another try or use incognito, it should be there 😊
