    The Prusik knot was used by James Bond, in the movie “For Your Eyes Only”. Bond (Roger Moore) used the shoestrings off his shoes, in order to ascend a rope while mountain climbing. Very unrealistic and unbelievably, however it was a James Bond movie.

    Had to opportunity to teach this to my grandson the other day. We were pulling an 85' deep well pump, with 1" ABS pipe about 10-12 feet up the pull line attached to the submersible pump went slack,No Weight, that can only mean the pull line had come loose from the attachment point, some 70 feet down. So while, we were holding the pump and pipe with one hand and fidgeting with the 1/4" poly rope, I instructed him how to cut bout a 2 foot length, then using one of my hands and using his two i showed him how to tie Bowline on a bight then double back on itself to leave a climbing pursik, then tied to our 'biner a dropping line to hoist the pipe and pump seal simultaneously. Needless to say it was a success and suprised the 16 year old know it all.😊

    It's great to climb up rope with too! I've climbed out of caves with 2 prusik loops; one on my foot and one for one hand... just keep sliding them up alternately. Great to know - in an emergency you can even use shoelaces!

    • @coalcreekdefense8106

      How do you move the foot loop up? Do you have to tie off the climbing rope at the bottom?

    • @ryancorsaut5177
      @ryancorsaut5177 Год назад +5

      @@coalcreekdefense8106 You lean into the top knot making sure it’s locked in place. Then pull your foot loop up. Put your weight into your foot loop then drive the chest one up. It’s much better if you have a secondary line to work off of, but a srs will work in a quick and dirty situation.

    • @ibandribew

    I used one of these last week to climb a pole. I didn't have any rope on hand so I used a 5m roll of twin core 10a automotive cable, attached the ends with a square knot.
    I'm not a particularly heavy person (70kg) and the cable held well, but it would have snapped long before the prusik knot gave way.

  • @SkepticalOptimst

    I've been using something very similar for tarp shelters with or without poles. It makes modifying the layout a breeze. I didn't know about wrapping it three times and using a smaller gauge for the loops. Fantastically simple and useful knot.

    One of the methods I teach with this is (ideally you want a second kind of cordage I like 36Bankline) but if all you have is paracord… after you cut your length of cord remove the inner strands of the cut section before you seal your ends. It helps hold everything in place even under hi tension. It won’t be as strong as it originally was but it will “bite” harder.
