    in liquid limit test, test start from dry to wetter side. In your video the Ist number of belows were 17 (which should be between 20 to 30 belows) . Then add the water to get the others two values.

      It is important to know the liquid limit(LL) of the soil present at the site so that we can compare it with its natural water content(Wn) . If the Wn is closer to or greater than LL then the soil is soft and if the Wn is lesser than the LL then the soil is stiff and brittle. Therefore it basically helps in determining the shear strength of the soil.

      for using it in road construction starting from Subgrade to Base course the LL is must, but they have different specs in each layer. these test is the consistency test of moisture so it will tell you how the soils behave as contact with water

    I thought the water content will weight of wet soil minus weight of dry soil, n in percentage , we divide weight of water by wet soil, I m confused, he divided weight of water by oven dry soil that cannot give the water content

    Many students were utilising this facility in the seventies and we were not aware until mobile phones have taken over desktops and laptops .....
    Guys were learning without ever attending the colleges ....and attendees got thier attendance online ....and faculties got atm paytm within the end of month .....and others were waiting for .........pay ........with lack of attendees and attendance ............
    Seminar attendees ???
    Conference attendees ???
    Convention attendees ???
    Cultural function attendees ???
    So ........without information faculties had to resign within couple of years ....and government is .........declining to pay even five thousand in federal government colleges

    What standard are you following? Definitely not ASTM or any other I have read/used very confused how come the number of drops increases after adding water to the next points? That is not how it works. The lower the moisture the more drops needed to close the groove the higher the moisture the less drops needed. 17 on your 1st point is going to be your highest moisture content. Now you get to wait for the remaining material to dry back to complete the last 2 points. Or are you mixing each point one at a time? The plastic limit was verbally explained correctly but it was not demonstrated correctly it was not crumbling in any sense. Oh and it is so much easier to use a coffee mug for mixing and the hinge pin holding the cup on the liquid limit device is the proper diameter needed for the pi no need for a metal rod just pull out the pin. A larger glass plate is also very helpful.

      If you see charts of the liquid limit test in the video @ 7:18, the number of blows in each trial are pretty consistent with respect to water content. So even if he asks to add more water to sample; different samples have been used while testing with more or less water content. Nothing wrong with the procedure.
