Uhm so some of these prices seem off like Concept Jin Gitaxias is around 22 and Atraxa jumped 500percent plus mercurial spelldancer and Mycosinth is closer to 10.

Yeah. I liked the 4th box as it really showed how I’d like set to be. A good amount of value pieces with decent prices to reach enough value.
Not like boxes 2&3 where one card was responsible for pushing it over/closer.
Just an idea, have you considered doing the booster box videos as a premiere? That way, people who tune into the video the moment it goes live won't see how long the video actually is until the premiere is over.
Could be an interesting idea to make it more of a 'watchalong' kind of experience, and a chance for viewers to chat about how good/awful the pulls of a particular box are.

For Set Boosters, your packs looked a lot like normal packs outside the "List" cards. You were rarely pulling more than one rare per pack. Maybe it's all this product fatigue as of late, and I have no idea what's in what packs now. 😵💫

i have noticed the set booster alt art cards are worthless why do we buy these packs if the chase cards are still gonna be in the collector maybe just have either draft or reasonable price collector packs wizards

@@BobNinjaCat Well in the higher powered formats where it is seeing play even you're seeing 10 cards and its never being cast for full cost, sneak and show and reanimator are decks that are seeing this card being played. It's being compared to and being called a better griselbrand for those decks as there is no need to pay life and being able to chain into another copy of itself and you can pitch it to forces and the elementals. It is a very good card and you likely will win in a turn or two if your opponent didn't concede after the etb resolves.

I cracked a Collector Box for fun and opened into about $100 of value because I missed Norn, Atraxa, and the Concept Praetors.
Same thing happened on the Collector Box of Dominaria Remastered, which has pretty thoroughly soured me to buying boxes for a while.

Almost entirely yeah. The gape between the 10 most expensive cards and the rest is huge so unless you're opening one of the chase cards you're not getting value.
This seems rly unlucky. I opened one and it got me full value without Elesh norn. Tho I did get a concept praetor in the box

Total spent: ~$280.
Total Value: $126.519
Rares not really worth talking about (no Rotpriest, no Gardens, 1 Spelldancer, no Skrelv's Hive).
Suddenly Atraxa is worth $60
This set has really showed that financial value isn't everything. Despite the low prices for singles, there are so many amazing cards in this set. Even the lower value Ixhel commander precon is sold out at every LGS I've visited while they still have plenty of Boros decks.
I can’t find the boros deck around me but to be fair I have to drive an hour minimum to get to a store that sells cards other than Walmart 😂
Boros deck has solid reprints. The corrupted influence deck is a hype trap mostly and better to get singles for toxic deck
@@PostprandialTorpor The deck is great (after some upgrades and testing seems like the stronger of the two), but the cards in it are shit. It is really a product you buy to play the deck not to pocket the cards.
@@MarvelOfRain Exactly, the boros deck is great but the power is not enough for me spending 40~45$. There's just better decks in that price range, if the precon was 20~30$ then it would be worth it.
I would hardly say the singles prices are low. Atraxa is $50, Norn $44, Mondrak $39, and the Sword of is $30 with 8 more cards over $10 and another 11 over $5.
So draft boosters are for drafting…set packs are for…er getting ripped off. And collector’s boosters are for…..getting majorly ripped off. Got it!

I feel like the reason a lot of the prices aren't high is *because* of how much this set's been bought, with the rarer cards being super rare, and the common cards being super common, causing that price variance of even mythics going for like 0.43

I think this game should try once excluding list cards. Those make almost all set booster boxes ‘worth it’ potentially. I can’t keep up with the list as it rotates, but it usually has a number of cards in the $30+ range. Taking them out I feel would show the actual set’s value over possibly a lucky list pull that has little bearing on that set.
An interesting data point would be how much would one of each individual card you open in a box cost together. A set booster after all is for the supposed collector looking to fill out their set collection, so how far towards a complete set does one box get you and for how much?

This is exactly why I buy 7000+ cards in bulk for the same or less than the price of a new set release booster box. I can build cubes, pauper decks, pauper commander decks.
And if I really want something expensive, buy the single. And because it’s so cheap I can easily give stuff away for free and it doesn’t feel vad if there are cards I’m unable to donate and they go to recycling.
The only way I engage with new product nowadays is if I go to a prerelease event or if I want the storage box and dice that comes with a bundle, I’ll buy one ☝️

@@francisserpa4465 Atraxa was $10-$15 before tournament results came in. She's seeing play as 3-4 ofs in 2 top standard decks as well as seeing play even in vintage, and is the 2nd most popular commander of the set.

Yeah, when she came out she was about 8 USD and I was tempted to buy it just to play it as a commander. Now that I've seen she is about 50 usd I've got regrets

Lol this is why I don't support paper anymore, because even at best you're only breaking even if you pull the One card from each set worth anything. It's clear they can only make great reprint sets worth any value and otherwise it's preying on LGS' to keep them going, all while killing their food supply. Elesh Norn's value must be for commander only because she's doing absolutely nothing for standard where soldiers and mono-red still dominate. In fact, this set did absolutely NOTHING for standard at all. Toxic is a joke, just can't compete with the speed of turn 4 and 5 wins from the opponent.
Thank you for doing the booster box game. It fills my need to crack packs. Now I can spend my money on singles.

I use to open them and get a couple of rares or something now it just feels like an over expensive draft booster.

I haven't bought any set since the fifth dawn. I stumbled on one of these videos and decided to try it so I bought a neon dynasty draft box in high hopes of pulling a hidetsogu neon or foil emporor. Supposed to be here tomorrow in excited

I’m so throughly confused at this. This is my first set since getting into Magic and it seems like it is flooded with all of these “special cards”. Even then, you can’t convince me that they’ve put Elesh Norn anywhere but Collector Boosters. It just seems like they intentionally sandbagged the secondary market with how they have designed everything.
I’m not even really upset, I like the collecting aspect of Magic but I’m not pleased having to offload so many copies for literal pennies. I’ve been fortunate to get copies of high value cards in assorted booster packs that helped pay for more packs, but this was a bust.
To clarify, I mean my “first set” in terms of brand new set that I am here for and decided to put money into to grow my collection. I started Magic shortly after Brother’s War dropped.
I’ve bought random assorted boosters for fun over the past couple months.
I know this was probably filmed ages ago but it shocks me that just a few weeks after the release the set market price on that Atraxa showcase is now 45$. A huge difference from the 14$ when you opened it.
I opened the foil showcase on Saturday when it was $18 and not a couple days later it started fluctuating around the $70 mark.
I drafted a box of this with my play group and it was one of the most fun draft experiences of recent memory (for standard) since war of the spark. We are likely going to do another draft of this before too long since it was so fun!
Question: Who do you sell these cards to? Friends, Ebay customers, or do you have a deal set up with your local game store where you give them Rares/Mythics/Foils equaling the cost of a box and they give you fresh boxes?

I’m so happy my box wasn’t like that first one. I was essentially able to get the box value out of 3 cards I pulled, Blightsteel Colossus, Vorinclex, and Atraxa.
I kinda feel like those alternate art Phyrexia lands will have some resale value in the future. They just look cool.

I am a little sad so many people have been opening up DRAFT boxes of this at my local game store which has meant we did not have anything for the Tuesday night draft. Luckily the store still had a box of NEO and that was a great draft!

I kind of can't believe Phyrexian Arena is a $2 card now. I think more than anything that's evidence that if it isn't on the reserved list or an original printing, and it isn't in a deck, sell it now before the inevitable crush of reprints destroys the value.
Or as quite a few people have argued, it’s just not that great of a card these days since you have to wait a full cycle to even draw 1 card. Black has plenty of 2-3 cmc draw cards at the cost of a bit of life for 2 cards right away and maybe an effect.
@@swrodgon It's also pretty innocuous on the board and most people don't consider it worth a removal spell until you've already gained a lot of value from it. I don't know why it's fallen so out of favor, I think people have started underrating it.

Is just for rares right? Cause Sheoldred's Edict and Minor Misstep actually hold more value than the actual rares in some packs.
I'm curious how you go about selling the cards? If sold to a local game store, you wouldn't get full market value for the cards, and also if sold online through tcgplayer, I don't believe you'd see a fast enough turn around. I still have a godless shrine on sale from back when that UNfinity set came out. Also, by doing this, aren't you only left with the bulk that nobody wants anyway? I dunno if id want 5-6 boxes of bulk afterwards. (Though it's fun enough to crack packs)

I’m 33 and I get the reference from the intro, but only because they referenced it in Ninja Turtles 3 Turtles in Time and I loved Ninja Turtles as a kid. When Donatello said “Help, I’m a turtle and I can’t get up!” My mom laughed. I didn’t get the reference, so she had to explain it to me. That’s how I was initiated. I was probably 4 or 5 at the time. :D
I picked up a Draft booster box of ONE to host a draft night with my friends! I'm so excited!
Really hope Prof kept those two Atraxa from that third box because if this had been filmed today those two alone would get him a good chunk of the way to a box.
quick question for the veterans: I got my set booster display today and the upper half of the plastic wrap is missing the wizard logo. I'm from EU and the shop I got it from is rated as highly trustworthy. Anything I should be concerned about?
$ingle$ are for me - too much value has been taken from Set Boosters and I REFUSE to buy Collector Boxes filled with curly foil “kaka”. They did however appear to increase the quality of the plastic wrapping the box and increase the difficulty of opening packs….

It's Elesh Norn/Atraxa or bust now, with Atraxa performing too well (you can redraw a whole hand just on it's ability) and was subject to a buy-out. 🤷♂
I instead opted just for a PR kit and drew an Elesh Norn (so the one card covered the value for the whole kit) and preordered the Compleat Bundle just for the textured lands.
I cannot stand those GARBAGE Showcase cards. They look just like those trash sketch cards from Modern Horizons 2. The two Elesh Norns were your big hits. Without them, there would not be that much value in the Set booster boxes. However, with up to 24 different versions of Elesh Norn, the price of these will go down. The card just might be banned as well. Thanks for the video Professor.
Set boxes at my lgs cost $160.
This set's Set Booster Boxes feel REALLY funky. Almost none of the booster packs have more than 1 rare, and I have the feeling the announced percentage for double rare is above 20%. And, that extra rare is almost always a commander or jumpstart card. Really lame. I'm going to go back to Draft booster boxes for next set.
First pack I ever bought had a foil Bonfire of the Damned worth $150 (at the time) and I traded it for my first competitive deck. After that boxes and packs were trash and I haven't bought them in almost 15 years. Buy singles, baby!
This is my favorite set in a LONG time.
Edit: that first box was AWFUL. I've made my money back in both set boxes and haven't pulled an Elesh yet. That was rough man. I also didn't know you could pull the concept praetors outside of collectors packs, so that was cool to see.
$120 Dollars a Booster Box?!
A few weeks ago I got 3 Boxes of Cardfight Vanguard from my locals by US$ 60 each.
As someone who plays Magic casually and other TCGs I'm worried about Magic Values going forward.
And I'm talking just normal cards, like 15 bucks maximum. I love card games but at this point it's hard keeping up with Magic's Price Range.
Right? I just started playing Weiss Schwarz and it's so incredibly cheap in comparison lol.
Some of these prices are kind of bizarre…Atraxa Grand Unifier is worth $5??? CK has it buylisted at $18 cash!
Wait, I havent played physically for years. When did we start getting only 12 cards as opposed to 15? And now we can even get cards that arent useable? Am I crazy? Of course when I played, Standard was the format of choice so you can imagine how long ago that was.
Also, the art direction is getting kinda stale. How many "center of frame with outstretched arms" alt arts are enough?
Of the 30 or so box openings of this I watched this was the worst by at least 50$, also the phyrexia language land are all 1.50$ now, and a couple of the uncommon are over a dollar now like "Sheodred's Edict"

Seeing Koth being worth less than a frekin DOLLAR as a foil makes me sad. I LOVED his character and design from Scars of Mirrodin. It's just not a great card...
I've opened 7 set booster boxes and pulled 1 Elesh Norn, 1 Ichor Gauntlet, 1 Obliterator. 6 of the 7 were from a sealed case. If not for the Norn, whose value has dipped below 40, this would have stopped at box 1.
opened my first box today and got a phyrexian vindicator, another phyrexian vindicator but borderless, urtet, atraxa,nissa ascended,sword of feast and famine,drivnod, staff of compleation. 7 mythics in one box so not bad
The boosters that I've bought for this set have had the lowest value of any box i've bought. I think that shows the state of Hasbro as a company right now. I never thought anything would surpass crimson vow and midnight hunt.
This set is basically, hit a couple high dollar cards, or bust. Other sets seem like they have more value spread out
I got lucky with my boxes and pulled 2 atraxas and Some other more expescards. But id never buy boxes again. Basically buy them to sell off cards to make $2 profit lmao and have a ton of useless bulk
