  • Small keepsake boxes are a great woodworking project, and in this video, we show you how we made one with character for our cousin's First Communion. We use moulding for the sides of the box, and then inlay the top of the walnut box with a maple cross.

Not really a woodworker, but this is mesmerizing to watch.

I notice that at 9:21 you just said the process would be the same for the lid, but didn't show it....marking the lid has to be more difficult since you cannot just lay the hinge on the lid...how did you get that done?

Once the hinge is already attached to the bottom, you can close the hinge and put a small sliver of double sided tape on top of each hinge. Then line up the lid and press it down to get the tape to stick. Now you can carefully open the lid and trace around the hinges with a pencil. Then knife along the pencil lines and carve out. Remember to go slow and check for fit often.
      Hope this helps!
