Have you done a 3000gt before? New subscriber so haven’t had a chance to check all the videos out. I know you briefly brought it up in this video but it would be cool to go more in depth. Especially with the vr4.
OldHunter Raziel yeah that’s kind of disappointing man. That’s one of the reasons why I never pulled the trigger on one, just cuz of the rumors I’ve heard. I didn’t want to always wrench on it especially with modifying it.
I was lucky enough to have this car in my 20's. The motor lasted 100K, but it took a lot of fixing to keep it going. Transfer case, clutch, etc..all replaced. Motor was rebuilt once under warranty. It was very fast and the Thermal Research exhaust for this car was the BEST! BTW: I still have a 1999 VR4. ;-)
Jeff D I love the vr4s man. How’s it treating you? Have anything done to it? I’m 29 with a wife and kids and am lucky enough to have a 02 Mustang GT with the wife being a stay at home mom. I know it isn’t anything special but it is to me. Lower miles, couple of bolt ons, gears and a tune. Nothing crazy but it’s pretty quick. Want to eventually put a blower on it and forge the motor. I’m a car guy at heart so I love talking cars.
DSMs are like a secret weapon for racing I can remember the first time my buddies Camaro got it's doors blown off by an eclipse at the time we had no idea what this thing was but once that turbo spooled and that little jelly bean zoomed off into the distance I knew that I wanted the triple diamonds in my garage
‘96 Eclipse RS was my very first car and it made me fall in love with cars in the first place. Eventually bought a ‘96 GS for parts to fix my first one then continued to buy a ‘96 GSX as soon as I saw it for sale because it was pretty much my dream car. Always loved how all DSMs looked. Thanks for this video!
DSMs are like a dark scary road that the little voice in your head is telling you not to go down, yet you do it anyways just to see what happens. I'm too far in now and can't find my way back out....
As a person who's played with DSM for nearly a decade, let me tell you, it's quite a pain in the arse, especially owning one that's been pass around. People love to neglect these cars, trying to cut corners ruining these car. People tend to buy them, mess them up and then end up parting out the cars and junking them, which is quite sad
My brother has a 98 gs-t...we know what you mean about these cars being passed around a lot.the guys we bought it from (who had a ratchet strap ratchet jammed in the motor mount because the mount was bad.)...said...the people before them cut the trunk out in order to fit a big Subaru exhaust. So we have to fix that mess.🤦♂️
@Frank White the more I learn about my dsm the more I realize how much racing technology was in these cars. I'm not sure if the average person was ready or willing to spend that kind of money on a mitsubishi. A lot of the parts remind me of Audi and Porsche to be honest.
My personal experience with my first 97 Eclipse Spyder •Battery died because I stalled it by accident one too many times •Throttle cable burned out Had to go to 8 different junk yards to find the part •Bought a new battery because the old battery was going dead and couldn’t turn on the car anymore •Drove it some more •Accidentally went by a speed bump too fast and broke something so the brake lights always stayed on •Had to unclamp the battery until I fixed the problem •Fixed the problem and put clamps back on •Apparently burned the throttle cable again in the process •Tried to open the door one day and the door handle broke (they’re plastic) •A week later the right side skirt was coming off •Ordered the part online but they weren’t for the same engine I had •Eventually gave up and sold it. Rip. Learned the hard way on buying a DSM that’s been sitting in a backyard with 180k miles. Never again. Other than that. Fantastic handling. Fantastic sound. Would definitely buy another eclipse tho.
I personally think the 2g is one of the best looking cars of the 90's. But I also think that the R33 was the best looking of the GTR triplets, so what do I know.
I bought a 2g eclipse in college with over 340,000 miles...Still my fav car I ever owned...When it ran. Mine had a DSM sticker in the engine bay. After 1995/part of 1996 most 2g's had Mitsubishi sticker rather than DSM in the engine bay.
Oh my god you guys actually listened to me 😢😱 I mean I have a 2005 so not a dsm but I said cover the eclipse and y’all listened, y’all no only have my sub now, i LOVE you guys now y’all listen more than some family members
I had a manual 1998 2G Eclipse GS for about 13 years. I originally had been looking for a GSX but got impatient and picked up a non-turbo, it was still a great car.
I owned a 1990 eclipse GSX for a few years. The previous owner damn near totaled it with "mods" but it drove and had a red talon that came with it as a parts car. The engine yeeted itself on first drive. Threw a timing belt within 20 minutes of owning it. After replacing the bottom end, the turbo had a couple blades that were cut up, but it seemed to be fine so I just kept driving it with a new bottom end. 2 months later, maybe 2 weeks of driving time, the turbo yeeted itself and sent shrapnel through the engine. This time, nothing survived. So, 1 crate motor later, I decided i was gonna be proactive in making sure it will be indestructible since I am a smart boy and learn from my mistakes(oh god how naive I was). Solid engine mounts, solid lifters, kevlar clutch(wtf was i thinking?). The cars already way to heavy clutch pedal was probably about 45lbs. The car shook so bad it melted the plastic that held on the front marker lights. I tried to fix them with zip ties but they disintegrated. Nothing less than full sized metal coat hangers held those things on. Of course the clutch master cylinder is in the middle of the car, since the AC(that I never even got to work) is directly behind the clutch pedal, so the 45lb pedal that operated the super clingy awful to drive clutch bent the bar that goes over the other 2 pedals to the master cylinder. All this happened in the first year of ownership. Even after all that, the car spent 90% of its time on jack stands. Eventually I bent the frame on a hard launch because the previous owner cut the front frame up to fit the ebay turbo kit he put on it. I learned a lot about being a mechanic on this car, and it taught me many life lessons. Most the problems I had with the car were self inflicted but I would never lie to someone and tell them that DSM's are 'reliable'. Future buyers beware. But with that being said, it may have been a POS. But it was a fast POS. And it was MY fast POS.
My favorite DSM was the 2g Talon TSI I owned 2 only thing I didn't like was no one made aftermarket rear taillights for them only the eclipses unless you retro fit a eclipse rear bumper nd not officially off a DSM assembly line but I've always had a soft spot for the 3g eclipse to still stayed true to the DSM ways by using a Chrysler chassis and mitsu motor the v6 done right could rip!
I'm eagerly waiting for the "So you want" video on importing the Evo I, II, and III, maybe even looking forward to the IV, V, and VI over the next several years.
Talk about the 3/4Gs. Great cars, have some decent tuning potential, nice community and criminally underappreciated. People love to judge them based on what they aren't (DSMs), but rarely on what they actually are. They deserve a chance.
I love my dsm!! People complain about reliability but mine ran strong for a long time on blowing up when I and I admit I cranked up the boost without a tune

I love and miss my 96 TSI AWD. Had to have been one of the funnest cars I've owned. I purchased it new and finally parted with it in 2012. The 90's was a great time to build these cars.

Love theses videos , all the host are real good to explain and know their thing's. They got their own way to do it to! Shoutouts to Gels, Dakota and Alex and the prod, keep it up!
I absolutely loved my '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T. Such a fun, easily moddable car. That was, until ...CRANKWALK. I wish you'd have discussed this in this vid. Thanks for the fun trip down memory lane!
@@georgieperezjaiman9403 September of 2001 (yes, right before 9/11). It was my '97 GS-T, which required multiple clutch replacements and suffered two engine failures because of said crankwalk. I refused to repair it after the second occurrence and it ended up rotting away in my garage before I sold it for scrap.
Kirk Kiyosada Tome 當銘清貞 Ohh, I asked cause i haven’t seen someone said that had a Cranwalk in this decade. I guest all dsm have been already fixe from that issue or in a junkyard
@@georgieperezjaiman9403 Yeah, the issue was that while nearly every part of the engine came from the Japanese Evo, the major exception was the crankshaft (well, that and the Garret T25 turbo), which caused premature main thrust bearing failure, allowing the crankshaft to shift in the engine (hence, crank"walk"). You can imagine how bad things can get when something that is spinning at 7k rpm is allowed to wiggle back and forth. The typical cause for failure is destruction of the crankshaft angle sensor, which basically is like dropping a grenade inside of the engine, sending shrapnel flying everywhere. It was a major, major problem with the second-gen DSMs. I believe that this wasn't an issue on the first-gen, since the crankshaft was also from the Evo. By the third-gen, Mitsubishi was using a completely different V6 or the old NA I4 instead of a forced-induction I4 (4G63), so they wouldn't have experienced this.
My daily driver is a 99 eclipse gs (given time me by my aunt who was the only owner). 60k original miles and still going kinda strong. I only do reg maintenance cause proper mods are costly but it will be my project car in the future. Lol. Always loved the car
Picked up a 95' gst about 7 months ago and i already dumped 3k lol so many small problems but if you know what ur doing, it'll be fun and worth it in the end.
Nice video. My DSM 2G is reliable even though its being built for time attack. The car never got modified before me so it was a freah start and its always done right! Problems really are owners who half ass or dont know what they are doing
Nika Tskhovrebadze Yeah i heard, i also heard it’s prone to occur for 2GA 95-97 models, and is likely to happen the more horsepower it makes, but i’m not sure, regardless that will be a problem i’ll do my best to put up with and remedy
I currently own a 91 awd talon a 97 gst spyder and a 98 gsx. The gsx is going to give its life so the spyder can be awd. I love my dsm's I've been driving them for about 20 years. If you build them right and properly maintain them they are great cars.
The laser rs is the one too have. It's the only one you can have with basic trim and awd turbo while the eagle talon and mitsubishi eclipse get full loaded with the turbo and awd
as someone who owns a car from the Mitsubishi/chrysler partnership... they made some nice cars ;) got a 1977 chrysler lancer... yes lancer. AND best of all... rwd ;) hoping one day to do a series of swapping an evo motor into it but my channel is nowhere near the size to get the support for that yet ahaha. maybe a 20k subs special it can come.
I still love brand new bottles of ranch in the fridge. That's the best example to date. My eyes light up because I can buy carrots, eat them with chicken nuggets and barbecue sauce, It's always a win when a ranch bottle's new!
@@brianscofield6921 I own my dream car my 07 Honda Civic si sedan, but if it really were to be, either a jdm Honda Civic type r 1999 hatch, or 2008 Honda Civic fa5 Type R 4 door. Wat about you?
Bringing back memories when I witnessed a 1st gen Talon TSi ripping and FC RX7 Turbo II appart in them street races back in Caguas PR, back between 00-03!!
there is some nostalgia... bought one of these in 2001 before the whole tuner thing got started. it was fun telling v8's that they got beat by a 2.0l i4.
My first car was a 90 gsx when I was 16 in 1996. I went to h.s. in a small town and there were only about 10 cars worth racing each other. Pretty much 90's cars were slow unless you spent alot of money. I was able to get a larger turbo, fmic, clutch upgrade and many trinkets I've forgotten. Nobody thought a 4cyl could be quick but I soon became a top street racer. This car broke and broke over and over. My dad wanted it so we swapped and I got a 95 mustang GT last yr of the 5.0. Now people assumed I had a fast car with the flowmasters and burnouts but it felt like a slug compared to the eclipse. With bolt ons in each car my dad and I raced each time we put on new speed parts. The races were essentially the same. He would jump me 2.5 cars due to AWD and around 100mph he would be 5 cars ahead and I would hold that momentarily until the mustang fell flat on its face around 120mph and he became a spec in front of me. I couldn't get the mustang to go more than 135 while the eclipse topped out in the mid 140's. Alot of fun back then but even the quick eclipse wouldn't be any competition to the sports cars of today without alot more $ put into it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this video. It makes my skin crawl when someone, including so called automotive journalists call ANY Mitsubishi a Diamond-Star or DSM. NO! The two logos TOGETHER: Mitsubishi's Three DIAMOND and Chrysler's pentaSTAR logo came together to make that term come into the world and it is NOT a term that refers to other Mitsubishis. BTW, 95 2G DSMs have the DSM logo under the hood so even though later 2G's didn't have it 2G turbos are "allowed" into the club.
as a dsm owner ofc you want it. Uncommon, can be built to kill super cars, looks cool, will have car meet guys confused, but ur gonna be working on it literally bi monthly. as a owner tho its 100% worth it
I love/like the Mitsubishi Eclipses and personally I recommend to be real PATIENT owning one. Anyways, 420a engine or 4g63. Doesnt matter. I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse 1997 420a/5speed. I'm fixing up my project car to be in good condition with temporary fix. Man it needs a lot of work and still does. 3rd previous owners or more idk, I bought it for 400$. The car was a miracle to even drive from Bakersfield to LA where I purchased it. As of right now, here are the car condition it had and what I've done to it throughout the year (1/2019) - Transmission pivot ball wear/bad (tip plastic made) - (temporary fix, shove 3-4 pennies between pivot ball and clutch fork to clutch/shift in gear properly) - Transmission shifter cable literally hang by 1 thread and ripped apart after arriving to LA (replaced it) - between the transmission and engine sheet plate is damaged/bend, it would contact with the starter & flywheel teeths (temporary adjust it but clutch pedal all the way down to shift gears smoothly) - clutch slave cylinder was strip and leaked (replace it) - some camshaft bolt was strip af (drilled out the strip thread and install pitch threads) - Crankshaft pulley misaligned (replaced it correctly) - Alternator was intermittently bad (rebuild it) - Car overheated (Bleed out coolant system and replaced all coolant hoses) - Gas tank had a drilled hole from a previous owner. For those who own a 1995-1997/2nd gen eclipse and plan to install from a 1998-1999 2gen 2piece rear seat. Please do not drill a hole. The gas tank literally 2-4inches away underneath the body. (drop gas tank and JB weld it) - last but not least, engine bay wire harness was a half a** repaired and 7-8 connector was mimic over with electric tape. (I had to pro-solder the connector and redo/check the entires wire harness if repair needed. Including the signal light harness.) - Overall, collect & replace interior/exterior and do service maintanence. Other than that, needs a paint job. It drives great but has a small rough idle because old car and fuq me for being a car culture guy lol jk but the car has 260,000 mileage. All I need to do is smog the car.😭😢😫🙏🏼 This based on car work experience and professionally knowledgeable on cars. This is what its like to own a eclipse. This is for all car enthusiastic who love/hate your own car. Stay strong but save financially. 😎
Mitsubishi and Chrysler had been partnering since way before that, the first generation pajero was sold in North America as a dodge and jeeps sold as Mitsubishi’s in japan
I've been trying to buy a teal 92 awd 5 speed laser off my neighbor for nearly 10 years!! Sits In his garage under a cover and gets driven a few miles a year 1 owner under 25k miles.
Got a 97 GST and 99 GSX. LOVE DSMs and looking for a decent TSi . The 4g63 is an amazing if not the best 4cyl motor you can put in a vehicle. Theres a reason it was used all the way into the Evo IX.
As someone whom has worked on dsm's it like pissing in your hands even though there is an open stall in the bathroom. They break alot but, they look good doing it.
Had 3 DSM's when I was younger. Talk about love/Hate relationship. When left stock, they were dead reliable. Anything north of 400HP and you were gluten for punishment!
My 95 GSX is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Sure it hates going into reverse, sure it has 140k on it and leaks some oil here and there, sure it's a bad idea, sure I might have to sell my supermoto to afford an Evo III turbo- but it's a hell of a time ;)
Ya reverse is always tricky , have to roll forward sometimes, then put it in reverse, I actually had my 94 Talon pop out of reverse once, it was so loud I thought I had backed into a car lol

Kirk Kiyosada Tome 當銘清貞 In what year did that happen to you?
98 and 99 did not crank walk fyi😂
So you want a classic car, that would be a sick episode and would connect with a whole other part of the car community!!
"So you want a Galant VR4." I own a 91 VR4, I need this to happen.
Rare gem bro
4g63> everything pull up.
I love my 98 GSX. Out of all 5 of the DSM’s I’ve owned it’s my favorite.
My daily driver is a 99 eclipse gs (given time me by my aunt who was the only owner). 60k original miles and still going kinda strong. I only do reg maintenance cause proper mods are costly but it will be my project car in the future. Lol. Always loved the car
Thank you for this I been waiting on this one ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
Lowered my last Talon 2" for the summer. Best it ever looked.
Just bought a 95 Talon, guy before me has a bunch of aftermarket garbage on it, lord help me
2G Eclipse is what I aspire to own, wish me luck gentlemen
Crankwalk
U have to know about it
AWD launches over 4k kiss the transfer case goodbye and the timing cam holder tool is the best investment you gonna make
Nika Tskhovrebadze Yeah i heard, i also heard it’s prone to occur for 2GA 95-97 models, and is likely to happen the more horsepower it makes, but i’m not sure, regardless that will be a problem i’ll do my best to put up with and remedy
99 GS-T spider...
1day...
Your car is beautiful man. This is the car the I loved the most as a kid, the looks never get old imo
I’ve been waiting for this too long! Thank you Alex!!!
I wonder if ill still be binge watching Fitment Industries by the next decade.. already been 2 watching for 2 years 🤷♂️
DSM love :)
been waitin for this for so long :D
@@DialoX ikr :D
Not gonna lie I always had been wanting to own a late 90s eclipse...dont care if it was slow, just looks really sporty and nice .
Oh my gosh this boy just broke out the plasma pistol BR combo in a car video. You have earned my like!
I currently own a 91 awd talon a 97 gst spyder and a 98 gsx. The gsx is going to give its life so the spyder can be awd. I love my dsm's I've been driving them for about 20 years. If you build them right and properly maintain them they are great cars.
I waited for this video since ive subscribed and im not disappointed
The laser rs is the one too have. It's the only one you can have with basic trim and awd turbo while the eagle talon and mitsubishi eclipse get full loaded with the turbo and awd
Interesting iv always liked the uniqueness of the laser I never knew you couldn't get them fully loaded
if you cant handle dsm mood swings, you shouldnt be in the custom car culture
I'll always be here on time 😇
Don’t forget about the pistol and the plasma pistol combo! Plasma pistol and br is 👌🏻
I know this isn't the first time I've seen a Runescape reference in one of your guys' videos. All I wanna say is that I love it.
as someone who owns a car from the Mitsubishi/chrysler partnership... they made some nice cars ;) got a 1977 chrysler lancer...
Thank you for teaching all the internet kids what dsm means 👍🏻
So you want a Honda Civic SI? Can we get that episode
@@brianscofield6921 no-no, Honda Civic SI
Honda Civic SI
@@brianscofield6921 used to have a del sol, loved it
@@brianscofield6921 I own my dream car my 07 Honda Civic si sedan, but if it really were to be, either a jdm Honda Civic type r 1999 hatch, or 2008 Honda Civic fa5 Type R 4 door. Wat about you?
Yes, sol.
Owned a 95 eclipse gsx around 05 when everyone laughed from my Honda friends.. now I will never find another gsx that isn’t over priced ...
“Some odd interests” with the Ramen and OSRS character...😂 I’m dead 💀
It's funny because I'm working out of town... playing some OSRS... and watching delivery notifications stack up for my 91 Talon TSI AWD. 😂😂😂
The best part about a DSM is the daily walks with your crank
saw the zoom up terubi commercial and liked this video immediately
With DSM insignia found all over my 2g.. I'm 'allowed' in the club!
Bro the eclipse gsx (2nd gen) is my dream car. Love it
Why do I relate to the ranch comment so much?
as a dsm owner ofc you want it.
As of right now, here are the car condition it had and what I've done to it throughout the year (1/2019)
- Transmission pivot ball wear/bad (tip plastic made) - (temporary fix, shove 3-4 pennies between pivot ball and clutch fork to clutch/shift in gear properly)
- Transmission shifter cable literally hang by 1 thread and ripped apart after arriving to LA (replaced it)
- between the transmission and engine sheet plate is damaged/bend, it would contact with the starter & flywheel teeths (temporary adjust it but clutch pedal all the way down to shift gears smoothly)
- clutch slave cylinder was strip and leaked (replace it)
- some camshaft bolt was strip af (drilled out the strip thread and install pitch threads)
- Crankshaft pulley misaligned (replaced it correctly)
- Alternator was intermittently bad (rebuild it)
- Car overheated (Bleed out coolant system and replaced all coolant hoses)
- Gas tank had a drilled hole from a previous owner. For those who own a 1995-1997/2nd gen eclipse and plan to install from a 1998-1999 2gen 2piece rear seat. Please do not drill a hole. The gas tank literally 2-4inches away underneath the body. (drop gas tank and JB weld it)
- last but not least, engine bay wire harness was a half a** repaired and 7-8 connector was mimic over with electric tape. (I had to pro-solder the connector and redo/check the entires wire harness if repair needed. Including the signal light harness.)
- Overall, collect & replace interior/exterior and do service maintanence. Other than that, needs a paint job.
It drives great but has a small rough idle because old car and fuq me for being a car culture guy lol jk but the car has 260,000 mileage. All I need to do is smog the car.😭😢😫🙏🏼
This based on car work experience and professionally knowledgeable on cars. This is what its like to own a eclipse. This is for all car enthusiastic who love/hate your own car. Stay strong but save financially. 😎
I have a 97 Eclipse GST that I'm building and man, that intro hit hard LMAO
i have daily driven my 91 mitsubishi mighty max / dodge ram 50 4 cyl 5 spd and so far i have loved it, no problems so far
I didn't know you guys were based in Wisconsin. If I decide to start modifying my Stealth I guess I'll have to look you guys up.
The first gen version of the Mitsubishi version looked so cool.
So you want an EF/EG/EK Civic?
We got the new boi Type R, time to throw back to the 90's JDM
My friend at work is building a laser and has had 2 before this one and an eagle talon
Mitsubishi and Chrysler had been partnering since way before that, the first generation pajero was sold in North America as a dodge and jeeps sold as Mitsubishi’s in japan
That intro is so accurate
"Bless your heart" Damn I think that hurt lol Although who doesn't need a conservative 800hp... boom lol
HE SAID VARROCK OR VARROCK LOOOL
Old school or rs3 though lol
Everytime I think DSM I always think of Dom yelling NOS!!
Finally! The video I've been waiting for. I love my 2G GSX.
Keep up with the Old school runescape references 😂
Miss my 98 GST
Had 3 DSM's when I was younger. Talk about love/Hate relationship. When left stock, they were dead reliable. Anything north of 400HP and you were gluten for punishment!
So 600whp... what's that make me? 😂
My 95 GSX is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Sure it hates going into reverse, sure it has 140k on it and leaks some oil here and there, sure it's a bad idea, sure I might have to sell my supermoto to afford an Evo III turbo- but it's a hell of a time ;)
Ya reverse is always tricky , have to roll forward sometimes, then put it in reverse, I actually had my 94 Talon pop out of reverse once, it was so loud I thought I had backed into a car lol
yess thank you i’ve been waiting for this
Finally. The video ive beeen waiting forrr 🥳🔥
