@@negativeindustrial thats the dream, I have a 1995 GT (2.0L), wanted to save up towards an GT4 but it was my first car and didnt want a very expensive car (as an beginner driver) also because theyre very very rare to find in my country in decent condition and I cant insure it because it has to many HP. No major things happened to it so far.
Young Sinatra Would your insurance stay the same if you swapped the engine for the turbocharged one? I’ve done that on an ‘86 GTS (3S-GE to 3S-GTE), my ‘90 MR2 Turbo (5S-FE to 3S-GTE) and again on my ‘94 GT (5S-FE to 3S-GTE + AWD) because Toyota screwed us over here and we only got ST-204s and AT200s but no ST-205s. So I made my own!!!. It’s super easy and cheap to do a basic swap and SOOOO worth it. Everything bolts right up since the engines are all S-Series engines - It’s like a completely different car! My insurance company has no idea I did it and it’s 25yo so here in Texas that’s perfectly legal (Altho I did it over a decade ago when it was VERY illegal. I simply paid ten years of $100 bribes to pass inspection). Even if you leave it FWD it’s totally worth doing, altho I would suggest upgrading the differential with an LSD out of a Toyota MRS.
@@negativeindustrial I wish but the rules are pretty hard, when you swap an engine to a bigger one (more HP) you need to get an different insurance, if you dont in my country in Europe you will be driving illegal and lose your license and get an ticket. Altough GT4 are more common in Italy, Spain (Carlos Sainz). I still wanted to have a nice first car to learn everything and not go over the top, so I started with a Black 1995 Celica GT. Really enjoy it so far, cant wait to save up, get an little older and try to get an GT4 I assume youre from the US and maybe im wrong but engine swapping and modding your car is alot cheaper compared to Europe, it sucks that Europe right now are being some environment pricks, so on everything is a .... lot of tax.
These are some of the greatest cars for people to get into the car scene or learn to drive a manual on. A 2002 celica gts was my first car and I loved/love it dearly (still have it many years later and has yet to let me down) the oil pump is a bit of a misconception on these. They only blow up if you miss shift and send the revs way pass the intended limiter. Otherwise they are pretty reliable! If you plan on getting a 7th gen celica check the rear calibers because that seems to be a common failing part I've noticed over the years. Both of mine have failed, a friend of mine bought one not knowing both of his didnt work at all, and I had a 2000 with one that locked up on me.
I always thought the celica gts and matrix xrs were "sleeper" enthusiast cars. 6 speed, 4 cylinder that revs to the moon, decent chassis and with an lsd, they are an absolute blast.
2004 GTS owner here, great cars, not a lot of performance parts floating around on the 2ZZ, the car is about as fast as it’s gonna get naturally aspirated stock & with the usual i/h/e & suspension upgrades you’re pretty much done
They did completely skip over the 1st generation (ST165) All-Trac/ GT-Four, came out in 88 and won quite a few rallys, not nearly as much as the 1990-1993 Celica (ST185) but it only had 2 years to work with so...
I got a 2004 Celica. Bought it as a my first car and absolutely love it! Obviously it’s not fast but it’s super fun stepping on the gas and hear the “growl” thinking you’re going fast af when in reality you’re getting smoked by the Camry and civic right next to you😂
The Celica is by far one of my favorite Toyotas. Id love to own a first gen, but as of right now i have the third gen RA65 and i gotta say, its such an awesome car. Guy sold it to me as a GT, but i have come to realize its the GT-S with an LSD and custom seats. Amazing car, perfect condition for its age
I own a 98 Celica and its a great car. Good power, gets up and goes and a suprisingly large amount of boot space. I'm glad to know there is so much love for them.
I used to have a 2003 celica gt with automatic and now I changed it to gts with manual. And well, I would say that gts is wayyyy more fun than you might expected. It is not fast by modern standard (7 sec), but revving and shifting feels so nice. Love it. Totally worth 3k that I spent
Correction: the 4th gen Celica introduced the GT4/All trac turbo trim, which I would not call "not much". Plus, we in the US did get the all trac turbo for both the 4th and 5th generation Celicas. And there was never a twin turbo Celica

I fell in love with the Celica a couple of years back. I saved my money and bought a 7th gen that needed work desperately. A couple hundred dollars in and I realized this is my pride and joy. The Celica is a fun car with lots of options to mod (for a 7th gen) and an awesome community following! If you can snag a manual 5-speed or 6-speed, do it! You won’t regret it. Such an awesome little car!
Love seeing this one! Mmm currently have a 86 but still miss my 7th gen. Alex you hit it right on the money with the oil pump issue. The engine sat in a unique way inside the car and pretty much discontinued. I wish I could have kept mine it was very tasteful and it’s easy to make those cars very “rice” easily! I’m excited to see the mr2 video now!
I blew up my engine in my Celica a week ago. I was at a stop light and I held the rpm at around 5000rpm and then dumped the clutch, then shifted pretty late( barely hitting redline) to second , then to third . I started to hear some rattling from my engine. Checked my dipstick and there was literally no oil. And I'm left here with just sadness 😭 it was definitely a fun car but I guess I was unlucky...

Yes, I want to see an e46 video and e90 video. The entire cooling system everybody's talking about is usually just coolant hoses, water pump and thermostat, maybe a radiator. Don't say that you dont have to do a water pump/tstat on older car. I do agree that e46 has it share of issues but it drives really well and it's extremely cheap
No disrespect but I highly doubt they would do that because their core demographic is the USA and given how that stupid "After 25ish year old import car law" exist here stateside there aren't as many here "YET" to validate a video. One of the most reliable car toyota ever maid. Easy to maintain, fix and when you suit it up with some nice body kits, coilovers and wheels it can still compete with todays modern cars.
I love my 6th gen GT. It was my first car my parents bought me when I was 15 and I still have it 23 years and 130k miles later. It's never been in the shop, never not started, only thing I have ever had to do is a clutch replacement 15k miles ago, 2 batteries and 1 brake job. We have a 2009 Rav 4 and a 2016 suburban and I've put more money in both those vehicles than the Celica. I will NEVER get rid of it.
If you do get a 7th gen don't expect much from most bolt-on's, especially with the GTS. Toyota and Yamaha did a good job tuning the 2zz. The best bang for your buck is probably a light turbo system but be careful. The 2zz is not well suited to moderate to high boost as it's a somewhat fragile (for a Toyota), high compression, open deck engine and the 1zz is essentially an economy engine out of a Corolla but it can be made to make decent power with boost. To do it right with the 2zz requires pulling the engine, sleeving the block, upgrading the pistons (lower compression for moderate to high boost), rods, billet oil pump, valve springs, and ideally cams. This of course requires an aftermarket ECU or at least a piggyback tuner, larger injectors and fuel pump. Expect over 300hp reliably with this setup.
We actually got all models of the 4th generation Celicas here in the states. The horsepower capper you quoted was actually the lowest model. We got the ST (4A-GE), the GT (3S-FE), the GTS (the legendary Toyota/Yamaha 3S-GE) and the turbocharged AWD Celica Alltrac/GT-Four (T/Y 3S-GTE). Speaking of “wheel figment”, I actually need to buy a few spare Enkei RPF-01 in a smaller size and lower offset for the front of my 1990 MR2 Turbo. I have 17x8”s on the front and rear with a big offset so that the rear will accommodate the 275mm width tires I have back there but the same size on the front leaves my 225mm width tires with that tacky stretched look. They also stick out about 20mm farther than I would like them to. When I’m done, I’d like to have two sets of 17x8”/275mm width rear tires (two for the track, two for the street with one acting as the full size spare tire) and a double staggered look by mounting 16x7”/225mm width on the front. The only thing I need to do is speak with one of your specialists to get the correct offset I’m looking for as, like I said, I’d like the outside of the front rims to be about 20mm shallower than the rear. Is that triple staggered?!? Idk but it’s going to look sick and handle it’s ass off! Do I just call you up at whatever number I find at www.fitmentindustries.com? I’d like to get these on order
The 2zzge engine is ridiculously reliable if driven properly. The oil pump disintegrates if a person shifts the transmission in the 1-2-1 pattern or over revs the engine. I've had two cars with this engine since 2009 and 2013, both cars are still running today (and I drive the crap out of them) with the Oem oil pump (there is no recall for this either...). Happy New Year and drive safe!
DavorMATF I know, I love how people make fun of people who say ‘rims’ as if they’re stupid when in reality they’re actually using the correct terminology lol
they don't have major issues but the motor isn't really a 2JZ it has weaker internals compared to the one in the Supra. Finding one that is manual in America is a complete unicorn but they're great cars even automatic, I have seen them run past 200k with the motor still feeling great but that's most toyota/lexus.
This guy across the street from where I work has a celica supra all boxy and cool like. His is summer driven as well. When I drive the vr4 we stare at each other's cars from across the street. we never talk but we give and receive the nod of approval.
The only issue with the 2zzge is if you do à miss shift , the oil pump will blow and the engine as well. Secondly, replace the oil pan with one that as a baffle plate and you will never run into oil starvation issue. For the rest... you can put alot of power mods on it and it will never fail you !!!! . Should know better guys !!! The 2zzge is a great plateform to modifiy !!!
Bleeding the air from coolant is another odd issue. There's a label under the hood that people don't follow and there's an engine in my garage from a previous owner to prove it.
So you've done the Celica... Now you need to do the Matrix! I owned an XRS, and it was one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. I regret selling it every day.
I saved a 74 Celica GT from being crushed by buying it for $350. Mine needs very little done to it to get it running but for various reasons I haven’t been able to get to it. It is a seriously beautiful car though, better looking than anything I’m aware of in my entire town.

Good :) We all have our favs. I still own a black 4th gen 1989 GTS. It's old enough now most people don't know what it is, and yes its fun to drive.
It’s my first manual car and I love it!🥺(2002 Toyota celica gt)
We have the same car 😍
I used to know a girl in my old car club named Ana who owned a 2001 GTS as her first car and another as her second (she sold the first to get a manual).
Cool car - cool girl.
Me? I’m a 1994 Celica GT4 man, myself.
Young Sinatra
Would your insurance stay the same if you swapped the engine for the turbocharged one?
Really enjoy it so far, cant wait to save up, get an little older and try to get an GT4
I assume youre from the US and maybe im wrong but engine swapping and modding your car is alot cheaper compared to Europe, it sucks that Europe right now are being some environment pricks, so on everything is a ....
One of my rears is seizing up. Leave the handbrake down and put it in gear so it doesn't roll away!
It's my dream to have a 1977 lift back as a classic build, a 1994 GT-4 as a sporty daily/winter car, and a 2006 GT-S as a nice daily
2006 damn i bet it is really nice man
I'm literally only watching this to see if he makes a Scotty Kilmer reference
Makes me sad the 4th gen celica GT-Four didnt even get a mention :(. Still one of the best cars ive owned.
Lets not forget the fifth generation Carlos Sainz and Gt-four
They did completely skip over the 1st generation (ST165) All-Trac/ GT-Four, came out in 88 and won quite a few rallys, not nearly as much as the 1990-1993 Celica (ST185) but it only had 2 years to work with so...
@@CanadianCarguy247 Carlos Sainz won the championship in a 165 in 1990. They didnt start using the 185 till 91.
those older st160 models are like hen's teeth now. if your were lucky enough to find a gt-four version do what ever you can to buy it.
So I might buy a Toyota celica 2001 but the buyer is saying it burns oil should I buy it please someone help me
Just brought a 4th gen and am in love 💕
I'm jelly. That's a nice bonus.
First Id like to say Happy New Years to everyone
Second please do "so you want a SC300/400"
I think they would be more popular if a car if more came in manual. The manuals are EXTREMELY RARE (I couldn’t find one!! But apparently they exist)
LimitlessSaiyan so I want : that engine in my 3rd gen !!!
He listened bois we did it
Amen!
Still miss my 2000 GTS manual. First car I ever had which is why I didnt realize how good it was til I sold it 😭
I drive an 02 Celica GT-S with 228,000 miles. I love it and it still drives like a champ. 😊
My mans didn’t even mention the GT-Four :(
Literally the better versions of all the celicas
that's my favorite one too!
Correction: the 4th gen Celica introduced the GT4/All trac turbo trim, which I would not call "not much". Plus, we in the US did get the all trac turbo for both the 4th and 5th generation Celicas. And there was never a twin turbo Celica
As a 2002 Celica GT and 2001 Celica GTS owner, its really nice to see videos like these that give the Celica some time in the light ❤
Learned to drive in my mom's 7 gen. Took me to a icy lot in winter and told me to throw it sideways and learn to control it. Mom was awesome.
Watching this in my 01 Celica GT. This thing drives like a beast, is economical, and looks like a king!
Currently, I'm saving up for a 2000 celica gt as my first car rn. Excited as hell.
if you didn;t buy it yet buy the 2zz
My ST204 Celica SX is legit the best car I've owned, Toyota really knew what was good.
I loved my 1984 Toyota Celica GT
Built to last and it was about to hit 300.0000 and now I have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder topping 187.660 miles and runs great.
Happy New Year!
~ Blessings ~
Makes me feel proud to recently got a 2000 gts. Love the 2zz and 6 speed already
Currently sitting in my 99 Celica as I'm watching the video and eating chips 😋 i know this will be good video!
This is amazing I always wanted a Toyota Celica!
@kudos 0000 dude I feel like they have so much aftermarket potential too and it's overshadowed!!!
My first car was a 79 celica I bought for $300. I haven't driven since I moved to the city (I was dumb and lost my liscence, but I'm getting it back) and I've been thinking about buying another celica. Thanks for the informative vid!
Facebook must've suggested this to you because I was lookin at some 1970 - 2000 Celicas
Why tf would you do that
Okay, I'm wearing headphones and that "welcome" at the beginning straight up scared me. I thought someone was in my house behind me. Headphone soundstage too good.
Same
i loved my 7th gen celica so much. so reliable and good looking, unfortunately the transmission blew and had to be rebuilt. was never really the same after that, i can hear some funky engine sounds after 230,000 miles. i wish i could find a good engine swap to do because i dont want to let her die. too many good memories in that car, too good looking of a car to get rid of. so now she sits in my driveway until i can figure out something to swap in it
A guy has one of these where I live, he’s like 20 and his gfs like 16
Killian Perreault sounds about right
Based
Killian Perreault wtfff bRo. Wtfff does his girl has to do with this comment or video.
When I see people with a Toyota celica, I think of a guy who’s like 20 and his girls like 16, the videos about the Toyota celica
I only ever met one guy with a celica. He was 20 and his gf was 16 too.
I just got a 93’ Celica St for $1200. It’s my first car and i’m 16. It’s also my first manual. I know it’s not the greatest model for that generation but it still looks amazing to me. I’m gonna enjoy this thing as long as I can.
I own a 02 Celica GTS. Still love it till this day and it always makes me smile
2000 Celica was my first car that I bought on my own after working for years in high school. It was totaled by a drunk driver, I miss that car so much.
I’ve always liked the Celica models. The last gen and All Trac models were fun cars.
Good video. Thank you.
I convinced my non car enthusiast friend get a celica gts he loves it 🖤
I got a 2004 140 Blue Edition and i absolutely love it.. of course it is manual and has 6 gears...17 inch rims, stiff suspension...its a bloody good car
*😭 sad e46 noises*
“So you want a BMW E46”
So you want problems?
Yes, I want to see an e46 video and e90 video. The entire cooling system everybody's talking about is usually just coolant hoses, water pump and thermostat, maybe a radiator. Don't say that you dont have to do a water pump/tstat on older car. I do agree that e46 has it share of issues but it drives really well and it's extremely cheap
Nextblood ikr when’s the last time they review bmw motors bro
So you want to reinforce your rear subframe?
fastboatster Bro same I want The E46 then the E90
"So you want a chaser..." happy New Year
No disrespect but I highly doubt they would do that because their core demographic is the USA and given how that stupid "After 25ish year old import car law" exist here stateside there aren't as many here "YET" to validate a video. I pray that I am wrong because I love them but they aren't that popular to. Please prove me wrong.
@@blackchang1981 doesn't matter what cars we got here they've done many cars we haven't gotten here many euro spec cars, r32,r33,r34 skylines,s15 silvia and more.
Or a so you want a cressida would work too.....
Finally someone's talking about this car. I have two Celica Alltracs that I'm currently restoring. Mine are the st185 series, with the pop up headlights.
you forgot to mention the GT-4 which you can now import :(
One of the most reliable car toyota ever maid. Easy to maintain, fix and when you suit it up with some nice body kits, coilovers and wheels it can still compete with todays modern cars.
My celica gts was as Scotty says an “Endless Moneypit” 💵
I love my 2004 GT. 219k miles and still going strong.
I'm about to close on a '92 Celica tomorrow! I'm excited to start a new project. Thanks for some info about the Celica!
Dude please God, give me a Honda Civic Si episode
YES, OH MY GOD IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VID! love you guys 🤘
its crazy how this video inspired me to buy a 7th gen gts. who would've thought id actually have one
Loved my 02 celica GT. Had it lowered with sportlines on 17’s handeled like it was on rails 👍
THANK YOU FOR FINALLY MAKING A TOYOTA CELICA VID 😍😍
Damn can’t believe this was posted last year ...
😂😂😂I checked and was like oh!
13THPR0PH37 😂😂😂
I’ve been waiting for this video for ages! Thank you! In love with the gen 7 Celica ❤️❤️❤️
Wdym shifting 1 2 1? Wdym exactly?
Mine is at 200k miles and runs like a charm. All it needs is love. Just need to maintain
When he talked about the sauce, I remembered I had one in the back of my fridge from when I just moved to NC and went shopping alone 💀
whenever everyone in southern indiana says “rims” instead of “wheels”🥺
“I gOt SuM nEw RiMs FoR mY 1990 cHeVy”
DavorMATF I know, I love how people make fun of people who say ‘rims’ as if they’re stupid when in reality they’re actually using the correct terminology lol
It’s literally called a rim witch is part of a wheel but ok 🤦♂️
I still have my Celica. It’s old but it’s like a fine wine. It gets better every day. No plans to get rid of it.
I daily drive a 2000 GTS equipped with the TRD body kit TRD exhaust and JDM HID headlights and it always put a smile on me
“So you want a Lexus SC300/400” Pretty please, Happy New Years!
Gary Alexander aka Toyota soarer
Burned Cheeto Exactly. I just figured the non-JDM version is more common
Yes please!!
I have a soarer with a uz swap lol, hope he features the soarer SC lineup
they don't have major issues but the motor isn't really a 2JZ it has weaker internals compared to the one in the Supra. Finding one that is manual in America is a complete unicorn but they're great cars even automatic, I have seen them run past 200k with the motor still feeling great but that's most toyota/lexus.
Yeah, actually, these are awesome cars
NO.
I own one they nice
@@danaschooll NO.
No they're actually arnt lol
Y’all who dont like must have never owned one
The 6th gen 94-99 actually has a pretty decent following. Shame you skipped over it towards the end
I honestly loved my 03, it was awesome for fun, and had great mpg.
Lifting into the new year! VVTLI!
2zzge every day
All day
Love them all, well mainly the rwd and AWD models. I searched the world and got a 1983 GT-TR hatch turbo. Funniest car I have ever driven and can fit nice fat deep dish wheels on it. Most people have no idea what type of car it is and I kinda like that. Boxy 80s radness is my jam
Toyota should bring the Celica back
happy new year
you bois out there
Happy New Year!
