When you don't shout out the audience in your thesis :( ....... Only kidding lol, I'm actually real happy you put this up, I was always super interested in the work you were doing, thanks for this! :D
OK. It's not often I write an actual comment, normally it's my own form of bullying with the use of a certain baked good, but this video is the finale. After years of your hard work, and many many hours of watching you through this vlog, it's finished. The PhD has been received. You're now Dr. Simon Clark. You say us viewers mean more to you than we realise, and I can tell you that the reverse is also true. Because of you and you're vlogs I have met so many great friends on discord and in real life, I have even been lucky enough to meet the doctor yourself, and most importantly, 2 years ago when I decided to no longer train to be a vet nurse, I was lost. I didn't know what to do, all I knew is that I wanted to learn because I loved what I was learning. Through your vlogs I realised that maybe a PhD was an achievable option for me if I worked hard, it was something I had never even thought of, and now I can't imagine doing anything else. 2 years later, and I'm now applying for PhDs and MRes' in cardiac research and I couldn't be happier. Thank You and Congratulations, Dr. Simon James Clark
Dr Clark! Or should I say Simon? or Senpai? Eh leave it, congrats my bro, I'm legit proud and emotional over this video. Been watching your videos for the past 4 years and I can't stress how much I love them, they always motivated me during my A'levels to get my ass up back in the study table and work. I am from Bangladesh and here we have a word called 'Bhai' as, in brother, I really see you as my elder Bhai. I can't believe it's been 4 years since I started watching your vids and looking back, you've been an inseparable part of my A'level journey. Bless your soul man, bless your family and friends. Congratulations bhai! :D
Having followed for a about 3.5 years now it gives me great pleasure to write congratulations Dr. Clark! Very well done, and what a fantastic early Christmas present for you and your family.
Congrats Dr. Clark! I've watched your vlogs since the start of your Ph.D. (I was still in Year 11). Despite having a non-science background, I've always found your academic journey interesting. Fast forward now, you got your Ph.D. and I'm halfway through my Bachelors.
dan you look marvellous in that scarf also belated congratulations Simon I only got around to watching this 4 months late but I followed the last year or two of your vlogs and really really enjoyed them- not particularly because I had a special interest in what you were studying or doing a phd myself but just because I found you to be such a genuine and all-round good person, watching you go through it all was like cheering on a friend :)
My daughter just started her master's degree modules, and whilst I was trying to find relatable videos as to what she might go through, I found your channel. She is thinking about following on to a PhD, so I am currently going through your vlog series. Enjoying every aspect of her studies has been rough for her due to what's been going on the passed couple of years, but I hope she'll get the thrill of walking across the stage as you did! She missed out when she completed her BSc, so fingers are crossed for the future! Thanks for sharing your academic journey.
Oh, I'm so proud of you, Simon. Have been following for a bit now and am currently in a PhD programme myself. Just so happy to see you completing this part of the journey. Well done!
This motivated me to finish my Master’s Thesis! I aspire to graduate this 2019. Thank you so much for this. I’ve been binge watching your journey. Congratulations Dr. Simon Clark! 👏🏻🎓
Congratulations mate! ) 0:02 for goosebumps. When you have finally made it through. THat lovely choir. This whole video is a masterpiece. I can almost feel your joy and your nervousness.
Congratulations. I started viewing your channel as an ex-Exeter PhD from the 1960s to see how the campus had changed. I found the channel interesting from several viewpoints. I look forward to seeing your future endeavours. Btw I had forgotten how annoying it was wearing that silly hat !
apple's lover I am doing fine thanks. After Exeter I worked in manufacturing industries, ending up in aerospace in the development and manufacture of communication satellites. I retired at age 53, and now split my time between Hertfordshire and the Canary Islands. I have plenty of hobbies to keep me fit mentally and physically. I sometimes think, if I had my time over again would I study Chemistry as I did at Exeter? My general feeling is that I would have been more suited to engineering than Chemistry, however I loved my time at Exeter. Particularly as when I first went there the total student population was about 4000, and about 40% of the students were female.
I found this video arrived at a interesting time as I am applying for PhD programs as I watch this video! Thanks Simon for helping peak my interest in pursuing my PhD.
Watching this made me really sentimental about the 2 years I've got left in university. We cry about how hard it can be but I'll miss student life so freaking much! I really hope I make the best out the time I've got here. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us, the ups and the downs. I've learned some invaluable bits of wisdom through it, while also just having some good old fun. I hope you look back on these videos fondly, as a time-capsule of sorts. Very very congratulations to you, Dr. Clark! YOU DID IT! P.S. The choir sounds SO GOOD!
I think the number of comments telling you how much you've affected all of us says a lot about your time on RUclips. I'll add myself to the chorus: I never thought about getting a PhD before watching your vlogs, never thought about going to the UK, none of that. Through watching you I got the motivation I needed to start doing research in my undergrad, the motivation to start collecting information and planning for my MA and PhD, and the motivation to apply for a study abroad program in the UK for this summer. Truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for all you do, and for being such an amazing person. You deserve the world, and congratulations on completing this part of your journey. - From a girl in Canada whose horizons you've opened up more than I ever thought possible.
I am so happy for you Dr. Simon, I have enjoyed your vlogs from start to finish. They have been my constant companion throughout my PhD life. At this moment, I am finishing my PhD thesis and can't wait to join you in the realms of doctorate achievers. I know this is not the end for you; but rather the start of a great successful career in Science communication. Send you tons of hugs and thank you for sharing your life with us!
I, like many others, also started watching you back when the Oxbridge help videos were released. It is so great to see you progress and you have definitely motivated me to work hard! I wish you the very best of luck with your future endeavours and congratulations on passing the hardest academic challenge globally recognised. Welcome back to having a life, Dr.
Congratulations Simon!!! Awww... I am so very happy for you. You are one of the reasons I keep myself rooted in physics. I am doing my graduate studies now. You inspired me to keep watching peanuts, to keep loving my teddy bear and to keep myself motivated. Cheers to you and your wonderful family and friends. You mean so much to us. Please do keep doing what you do. Congratulations once again...
Congratulations!! I only recently discovered your channel; the first I heard of you was from the Lewis And Ben xfiles xcom stream, but I really took the dive with the recent Hatfilms quiz show and then Inspent an afternoon binging you on Tom Scott’s Lateral game show. I’m only seeing your PhD journey from the tail end, but I’m super proud of you, dude. Here’s me, a fresh undergrad student from California congratulating the great, Dr. Simon Clark.

Congratulations! I've only discovered your channel through your more recent Yogscast collaborations, but I've completely fallen in love with this space and the inspiration you bring. As a current university student, it's amazing to see someone who has gone through the hardest of times, but still come out on top in the end. You'll do amazing things with that PhD.
I graduated from my MSc in Astrophysics on Friday and everything was so hectic trying to get everyone there on time etc... I didn't get to film my getting there & getting ready etc... This is such a beautiful video! Congratulations on getting your PhD, Dr. Simon Clark. I have watched quite a few of your videos (Especially when not innundated with coursework & revision) & also know how tough & challenging Uni gets, so really big congrats on making it through! All the best for the future!
Congrats. I have a PhD and my son is getting his now. I know what a hard slog it can be, especially in STEM or STEM-related fields. I see you come to the stage with your hood. In the States, we are hooded on stage. I hope to be able to hood my son. Well done, Dr. Clark.
Looks like we graduated together, from across the Atlantic! Watching your videos throughout grad school has really shown me that I was not alone in my frustrations, as is probably the same for much of your viewer base. Anyway, thank you again for sharing your experiences with the RUclips community. Grad school is seriously no joke, but (as we can both probably attest) it is so worth it in the end. Wishing you the best in your future endeavors!
I legit just couldn't stop smiling throughout this entire video, I'm real happy for you, and super proud too, congratulations on 100 percenting your PhD, Dr. Clark :)
I just finished my MA in Creative Writing 3 months ago. This video is definitely encouraging! I (re)discovered your channel tonight (it's nighttime in the Philippines now), and I'm happy to learn that you successfully graduated! I'm sure all the hard work paid off! I first watched you as a college student some years ago, so this is a wonderful surprise. I plan to do a PhD in Creative Writing, (Comparative) Literature, or Educational History & Philosophy in the near future. Cheers!
Followed you from Oxford to here mate, a silent lurker, but couldn't help but say congratulations. I am one of the many students you have helped stay motivated. I appreciate your honesty through the good times and the bad. I look forward to seeing where life takes you next xxx
Congrats Simon, thanks for the knowledge you've given here and there over the years with your fun presentation, keep making science videos and love your vlogs too.
Thoroughly enjoyed the journey through your PHD, enjoyed the coding vlogs the most. Congratulations on your PHD and good luck on your future endeavours 👍🏻
Congratulations, Dr. Simon Clark! I stumbled upon your channel during my procrastination periods. I finally managed to get my PhD from Durham last year and so happy to see you getting yours!
Congratulations mate, thank you for all the hard work you put in all the time and a massive crisp high five from me cos bloody hell what you've accomplished is awesome. Congrats again and keep up the awesome work :)
Congratulations Doctor😄. I genuinely hope for your future days to be as delightful and pleasant as your previous days were draining and frustrating. Good work dude.
Congratulations Simon. Been there from the start and it was a great journey to be a part of. Really inspired me during my university experience. Thanks for all your time and effort and providing us with great content!
Wow, I actually feel a bit... sad? I mean, I am really happy for you and I wish you all the best. But this does feel like the end of a journey. I've watched your videos since Oxvlog days and you had your part in convincing me to study physics. Anyways, lovely editing as always and congratulations!
Congratulations Dr Clark, I have watched your Ph.D vlog and loved it, you deserve this so much, all your hard work over the past however many years has paid off :)
Congrats again Doctor Clark! I highly recommend your vlogs to anybody considering a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or just about any scientific field; your vlogs provide an amazing bit of insight into the struggles, challenges, and daily life of the PhD student/candidate, applicable even to more lab focused, less data focused, STEM research fields. I look forward to your new projects, I hope the change in channel focus does not hurt your views and engagement. You have a great personality for science communication, I know you will do some good in the world. I see you growing into a British Bill Nye or Neil Degrass Tyson if you choose to pursue that Avenue of science communication. Contemporary science is struggling heavily under the weight of public miscommunication and a lagging primary and secondary education curricula; we need friendly, curious, relatable, and humble people like yourself to reinvigorate public love for and understanding of modern science. You are uniquely placed to do some good in that area, especially in climate science (which is in your arena of formal experience) as most of the public, at least here in the states, does not fully understand and accept it. Even among very educated Americans and politicians, the lack of a solid foundation in data analysis leaves many vulnerable to anti science rhetoric and manipulation by special interests, which are largely responsible for the mass responsiveness to Trumpian climate hoax rhetoric and are the primary vectors by which the public allowed the current administration to pull out of the Paris Accords. The scientific community must be the bridge which unites international policy on these global scale discoveries, we cannot move forward as a species until we have agreed on basic deductions, inferences, and discoveries about our potential impact on the planet and the potential consequences we will pass along to our children. Keep up the good Doctor Clark, I think your vlog and new interests have coincided with where you're most needed and where you will experience the greatest personal and social value.
Been watching you since you started the PhD, been really entertaining and interest in NG journey. Congrats on getting the PhD man, and I look forward to seeing what you get up to in the future
Congrats - It's been emotional - funny, informative, quite a journey and sad it's come to an end. More people should vlog this life changing experience.
For those who are interested, I published my PhD thesis on my website for anyone to read! www.simonoxfphys.com/blog/2018/10/15/my-phd-thesis

Congrats on the achievement. I'm new to your content and have now watched enough to see that you've worked bloody hard to get this PhD.
Congratulations, Dr. Simon Clark! I stumbled upon your channel during my procrastination periods. I finally managed to get my PhD from Durham last year and so happy to see you getting yours!
What was your PhD about?
This is like your favourite film coming to an end. A happy ending. Rewatch value: over 9000!

Wow, I actually feel a bit... sad? I mean, I am really happy for you and I wish you all the best. But this does feel like the end of a journey. I've watched your videos since Oxvlog days and you had your part in convincing me to study physics. Anyways, lovely editing as always and congratulations!

Same!
Actually so happy for you. Brung me so much joy watching this!
