Unexpected changes on my NEW motorcycle during my solo road trip in North Carolina!

  • SURPRISE! For my new motorcycle during my solo road trip. After spending a couple of weeks in central Florida, I embarked on a motorcycle journey to North Carolina. The excitement of leaving the Sunshine State was palpable as I packed up and hit the road, fueled by coffee and the promise of adventure. The ride led me through picturesque landscapes and gradually cooler temperatures, a welcome change from Florida's warmth. The goal was to reach North Carolina and explore the scenic roads around Cherohala Skyway. Amidst the journey, I made a pit stop for much-needed upgrades to my motorcycle, navigating around 560 miles from Orlando. As I reached North Carolina, I marveled at the stunning mountains, signaling the start of a three-day exploration. The next morning, with cold weather gear on, I set out to Wunderlich's US headquarters in Hendersonville, where custom modifications awaited my BMW R18B. The day unfolded with the installation of various parts, enhancing the bike's functionality and aesthetics. Grateful for the warm reception from the Wunderlich team, I resumed my ride to Robbinsville, North Carolina, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Appalachian Mountains. The journey was not without its challenges, from cold weather to unexpected road construction, but the scenic views and the anticipation of exploring the Smoky Mountains kept my spirits high. Finally arriving at Robbinsville, my enthusiasm grew as I prepared to ride the famed Cherohala Skyway. The day ended at a hotel, though thin walls provided a less-than-ideal night's sleep. The next morning, braving the cold and fog, I geared up to ride the Cherohala Skyway, eager to share the upcoming Smoky Mountain adventures with my audience. This transit day marked the beginning of a travel series, a shift towards experiencing and appreciating the beauty of the roads less traveled. As the sun rose over North Carolina, the promise of exploration hung in the crisp mountain air, setting the stage for the adventures that lay ahead.

Hi Jess! A suggestion for cold weather riding----silk long underwear. My wife and daughter rode (horses) year round. I never had a problem with Christmas gifts and that long underwear was always welcome. Silk is light , thin and comfortable; and warm, of course. I bought it at Dover Saddlery or Stateline Tack. Both are respected companies.

Those lower leg chaps are cool! My daughter rides horses and uses something like that when she doesn’t wear tall boots and in the equestrian world they’re called half chaps. It’s actually funny how many parallels there are between equestrians and motorcyclists.

If you're in the Maggie Valley area, please visit Wheels through time museum. You can spend hours if not a whole day. All American made motorcycles.
If you want a unique place to stay, stay at Mile High Campground. It's between Maggie Valley and Cherokee on the Blue ridge parkway.

I was riding in NC went over the skyway and i was waiting in that construction area when a BMW past me and I thought wait...WTH I think that was her two wheels!
Apparently it was. Funny to me to see you in the wild. Ride safe hope you enjoyed the skyway and all the beautiful colors.

Wow, really enjoying your videos. Longtime rider here, 50 years plus😂. At 70, my trips have come to an end due to wife’s health problems. I’ve ridden as far as California, Montana, all through the eastern states, as far as NewOrleans. I love this country so much, it’s so beautiful. Admittedly , I got a little emotional ( cause I’m old I guess) riding with you down the highway. I’ve been riding my 02 Goldwing for the last 21 years. Lots of fun and funny memories ( well, funny now). Keep up the great work! Look forward to to your next adventure.Semper Fi

I stayed at that same Best Western last month when I rode down to ride with my cousins for the weekend. I pulled in, checked in, unloaded the bike and went up to my room. I parked exactly where you were when you unloaded and they never said anything (I never asked). The next morning, someone walking by said he had pulled his bike in (with a group of other ADV riders) and they told them to move. His comment was that they let me park there because I rode a Harley. Also…it was fun seeing your ride to Robbinsville. We spent a week there this summer riding all the roads. For future reference, look into the Phillips Historic Motel. Costs less than the Quality Inn, and they cater to motorcyclists. No breakfast in the am, but they’re walking distance to a couple of good restaurants. We rented a cabin…not really an option for what you needed.

Look up the "Road to Nowhere" for some interesting history, there are a ton of great places to eat in the town of Bryson too. While you're in the area I would highly recommend taking HWY 28 toward Highlands and make sure you stop at Dry Falls, you can't see the waterfall from the parking lot and it's only a 100 feet down (we kept stairwell and walking path) for one of the most beautiful and easily accessible waterfalls.

I lived in Hendersonville for 26 years. Best motorcycle roads in the country are in western NC, but I am biased. I used to order parts through Wunderlich for my BMW R1100rs.
