@@alanguagesYep! I was 11 years old when that happened and my friend called me to let me know that Hogan turned! So I turned it to WCW because at the time I rarely watched WCW and was hooked from that day until about early 1999

All due respect to Sting, it wouldnt have worked. Its not a knock on Sting at all. The third guy had to be a WWF guy, no one else. Hogan was the poster boy of what the WWF was. Sting was all WCW. He needed to be their rival
Sting wasn't as big as hulk, not to mention, No one ever thought Hulk would get bad, people grew up with red and yellow, so hulk was perfect for that

Correct for all the reasons you stated. Sting was the perfect antithesis to the nWo, which is why when he joined the wolfpac it messed up the whole thing.
@anthonyanderson9303 Honestly, the Wolfpac was working and could've worked well. Hogan and Bischoff hated it because they were making Hogan's NWO look bad, so Hogan cried his way into the wolfpac backstage, thus giving us the fingerpoke of doom, killing the Wolfpac, Hollywood NWO, and Goldbergs mystique in one night. Everything done in 1998 was rendered useless in that one night. Then we had Hogan wearing JNCOs talking gangster "My trigger finger, Brother!" It was cringe and sent most of us to the wwf for good.
I don't think it would have worked with anyone else .. it has to be Hogan or bust. Glad Hogan decided to turn but I'll admit after like a year or 2 nwo started to get blan when more people started to join

According to Bischoff in his book “Controversy Creates Cash” even he didn’t know Hogan was going to do it until he showed up that day.
But honestly, having Sting turn heel would’ve been bigger. Hall and Nash were WWF guys but Sting was WCW through and through. That betrayal would’ve been even bigger than Hogan turning heel.

Hogan waited to see whether the NWO would be profitable or not before deciding to jump in. It was not because he was concerned about his legacy or the kids or whatever else
Not true at all, it's been well documented from every single person involved(Not just Hogan) that he didn't wanna do it and had to be convinced up until a few days before it happened, just because you(person who wasn't there)wanna believe a narrative doesn't make it true

When Heenan said that he told us all for years, it was one of the greatest lines ever said as it transcended companies and eras. Masterful.
In a Q&A with Bischoff, a fan asked why they didn't have a face Heenan family have a feud with the nWo. He responded he was excited just thinking about it when the question was asked.
Heenan added so much to the nWo and later to Goldberg. And it was so perfect that instead of siding with hogan as a heel announcer normally would, it was I told you so. Perfection.
I remember when he said it and as a 80s kid I was like holy shit Bobby was right.

They had Jeff Farmer back there just in case I decided to stay a babyface, dude. I was going to come out and drop the leg on the fake Sting and crucify those jabronis Hall & Nash, and solidify myself as The Rock of WCW. Before Dwayne did it in WWE, it was going to be Hulk Hogan The Rock says I just laid the smack down on your candy ass, dude. And Razor Ramon, Diesel, it doesn't matter what there names are in WCW as the millions and millions of Hulks fans all chant his name "Terry Terry" if you smell what Im cooking brother.
The alternate plan from Bischoff was to send Luger back out to make a comeback, and then Sting turns on him to join the nWo.
But they didn’t have to discuss anything. Hogan was already good with the turn before the show started. Bischoff just wanted to make sure he didn’t get cold feet and no-show lol.
That’s what gets me about Bischoff. Possibly the most overrated person all time in wrestling. He literally had a good idea with the NWO & 2 years later they were out of business. He has LITERALLY failed at EVERYTHING else. ONE good idea.@@claytron3000

Another hogan lie....telling mean gene to get out the ring due to blood coming down his face....there was no blood and he finished the interview and left on his own after without a word from hogan
Mean Gene said that something hit him and he told Hogan he was responsible for that.

I always wondered what Sting being the 3rd man would’ve looked like. Making it look like he jumped ship to the WWF would’ve gotten Sting a ton of heat especially if he had cut promos saying he was done being the franchise of WCW. Don’t get me wrong, turning heel was awesome for Hogan at the time, but Sting joining the nWo with his dark crow look would’ve been a perfect fit.
Sting wouldn’t have had the dark crow look at the time that he would have been the potential 3rd man.
@@bixbycro at the time he was starting to transition to the phantom of the opera look in between that and the crow gimmick. Point being, had he been the 3rd man he could’ve pulled off the dark look sooner to embrace the change. Had Hogan not joined the nWo, in my opinion Sting would’ve been really interesting too.

Wasn't the original idea of the nWo supposed to be ex WWF wrestlers taking over WCW? Sting probably would not have worked regardless.

I never understood this story .. we were gonna send Sting ? Or Sting was gonna be the guy and nobody knew if Hogan was coming … the match was literally going on .. how would Hall and Nash know what to do if Hogan didn’t come ? Especially since Sting was already out there and getting beat up ., makes no sense the way people tell this story
The match involved outsiders vs Luger, macho and sting. How was Sting gonna walk down there? The outsiders must have had some inclination
And this WAS Confirmed By Kevin Nash that He and Hall were NOT sure Hogan actually Confirmed (that's why if you look back,you can see Nash's Concern at Bash at The Beach. You could SEE his "Wheels Turning "in his head" so....Terry isn't necessarily Lying on this part

It was just another way for him to not take accountability for whether or not the angle succeeded. If he didn't turn but Sting did and it flopped, he could blame the fans. If he turned and it flopped, he could blame the fans. I like that things are more transparent than they were back then, but learning this about what happened that night really tarnishes it a bit. Given, I don't know how many were actually shocked when Hogan turned (he did the classic "hero coming to help, oh no he's really helping the bad guys!" swerve that's been used time and time again in the business), but it was sold soooo well by the announce team that it elevated it to the iconic moment it became. Heenan was definitely the MVP there.

I think Sting would’ve been fine as the third man. What wouldn’t have been fine was whoever fills the actual role Sting was in as that anti hero. Very few could’ve had the impact as the good guy vs the NWO with how over and popular
the NWO was. I mean any time the NWO was out there taking over and beating up WCW wrestlers the crowd every time was chanting we want sting we want sting. He was every bit the draw and maybe more than the NWO. I was 18 and I was in 7th heaven every time he made an appearance it was like a drug to me. He was clouded in mystery and wonder. It was like time stood still when he showed up. Hogan was amazing but Stings apposition to the NWO made the whole story legendary till wcw effed up the 97 starcade main event.
I’m not sure why the 3rd guy would ever be Sting. Seems like Macho would be the more natural choice or at least Luger. Sting was always WCW.
