He didn't pay Matt out of respect. He paid him because not a soul would have gambled in Teddy's place if he stiffs someone when they beat the house. His poker room would be empty. Who wants to play in a place if you win , you still lose.

Danielle Marion Sure. Your right. However, K.G.B. could have killed the kid and took the money back.. Or, just have Grandma do it.. He accepted his lose.. As far as we know.. You're right though. Nobody would gamble with somebody who doesn't pay the winners..It was lines such as... Kids got alligator blood" Also... "respect is all you have left in the morning". As in he respects Matt Damon as a intelligent and skilled opponent and adversary... Matt Damon's buddy put them in debt by making brainless moves... . All that added up to a substantial sized Financial hole... He filled in the hole. Paid off his buddys debt. Paid back the judge.. He also won back all the money he lost to K.G.B. in the beginning.. Then he left for vegas to chase his dream. If K.G.B. didn't respect the kid.. He should have.. Awesome comment by the way..

Exactly, from what I could gather from the movie this was a regular big game. If Matt didn't get paid or if he had an accident leaving, The game would have been over and KGB would have the bad rep. KGB is probably making a lot of money off of Wall street guys and doctors and such he knows he will make the money up another night.

Fun fact: When Malkovich did the accent on set the first time. Everyone was applauding & cheering him on besides Damon. Who thought it was weird and sounded off. Making a disappointed facial expression unbeknownst to himself.
Malkovich saw Damons reaction and pulled him to the side and whispered "you want to know a secret? Im a terrible actor". 🤣😂🤣😂

John did it WAY over the top as a joke, people were pretending like they liked it because they didn't know what else to do, it's John Malkovich being awful! Damon was bewildered and couldn't hide it. Then John let him in on the joke.

Yeah you're right. I had to do that last night for a $1500 pot. I re-raised pre-flop with AA and flopped a set on AJT board with two diamonds, but the turn brought a flush and the river a straight. The guy check-raised the turn and I called hoping the board would pair on the river. Unfortunately, the river brought the 4th card of a straight. My top set had turned into bluff catcher. The guy insta-shoves the river. I tanked for about 2-3 minutes and then made the call because the guy seemed to be playing little too aggressive for his hand and making moves too aggressively. He didn't turn his hand over instantly and then said that the caller was supposed to turn his hand over first. We all knew that was bullshit, but I turned over the set and he mucked his hand. Then he said I made a terrible call because either a flush or a single card straight would've beaten me. While that might be true, it is also true that he had neither of those hands and that is the main point. I'm still buzzing from that hand this afternoon!

He's experiencing a rage he hasn't felt for ages... and even in the midst of that... even as a gangster bad guy... he still has the _character_ to stop his lackeys and keep his honor intact. *"Niet. He beat me. Straight up. Pay him. Pay that man his money."* Then he goes in the back room where, if ya have any sense at all... you won't disturb him for a few hours.

Yes the typical thing what bad guys do is, that after loosing they dont pay, when kill you, if you want them pay and after winning they want you to pay or kill you off. You cant be that good poker player, if you have so much emotion in it and he just had cheeky personality without realizing what is happening. He was just prideful about his 3 aces, while he never wondered how good player like Matt Damon keep calling thoese pots, when of course Matt Damon needs to have something sick to keep calling, when there is just numbers in board. I dont think he would put so much money in with pair or two pairs.

I see many people complaining about his accent, but here is the thing - everybody is different with accents. I had a russian guy in my german classes who spoke german with exactly the same accent. Incredibly heavy. Being good at the language (grammatically correct) doesn't mean automatically you have an ear for the prononciation and vice versa. I on the other hand, speak five languages at different proficiency levels and can imitate german and english (american or british) accent so well, that I have been mistaken by native speakers for a native speaker myself, they find it hard to locate, but they fall for it. The second I try to build more complex sentences and hesitate about words my accent starts to fall apart and my ruse is exposed. :) So his accent is really spot on and people saying that no russian would speak with such an accent is a very subjective thing to say.

Teddy re raises $4000 and mike goes all in. Teddy pauses, opens an Oreo, but puts it down without eating it and mucks it. Later in the night, when mike is almost busted, he flops top 2 pair and is ready to raise, but he sees teddy open and eat an Oreo, so he checks. Teddy raises big and mike realizes teddy flopped an A-5 straight so he folds and shows his hand to try and get him off his game.
