As both a Buddhist and an anthropologist, what I appreciate about your films of Nepal compared to the other "thrill-seeking docu-adventures" on RUclips is that your films are about PEOPLE. It's not about you taking selfies from the highest passes; it's about an adorable young naked boy smiling ear to ear as he dances through clouds of wheat chaff. So many of the aforementioned adventurementaries are oblivious to their own privilege and overlook the fact that the Himalayas are not just some exotic Shambhalic paradise; rather, people live there... people die there... people are dying there as we speak. In the face of the immense cultural and human tragedies that have rocked Nepal in the recent past, now more than ever, the world needs to remember that the Himalayas are a place where people lead lives that are equally as profound and important as our own!
I personally have an enormous respect for the orientals, for Nepal, for Tibet, for the people of the Himalayas and from those of the plains - but for a self-hating white like you I only have contempt
Wow, thank you! I am trying to go back next year, after 10 years, to trek from Dolpo to Mugu, from Phoksundo to Rara Lake. It will take 30 days and is quite expensive, but I'm going to try to make it happen.

Mr. Jonathan Steward your attempt is beyond my description, but worth viewing since I like the miracles of Nature's spectacles that are spread all over the world and far away from the human-made concrete jungles where mother Nature is little disturbed by the human onslaught. Your video is a modern technological mirror to enable millions of people to view where they cannot even dream to reach and walk with their physical feet. You really deserve my innumerable thanks. Hi Jonathan, thankyou for the video...really magical and I love your human approach..I always love to meet the locals and wherever I travel people are often the mainstream highlight..the Nepalese people remind me of the Andean communities, you would obviously understand what I mean...the link between the two ignites my passion/research for our ancient origins...every indigenous people around the globe seem to share certain noble characteristics which I put down to living with nature and spirituality.
I've trekked 6 times to Dolpo, various ways and valleys, usually guiding. This was by far the best photographic representation of this region. It's great you went as one Westerner . It seems slowly the roads appear, but I was surprised you got horses the whole way, especially the gorge before Shey. After Charka there is one really difficult section that I had a client on a safety rope down from a pass. Maybe now there is a better trail, quite surprising. It was quite emotional to see Dhaulagiri so close. I climbed it in 1981. Thanks for these memories.
Thank you sir. On the day of my trek where we changed route and headed down the river back towards Juphal instead of over the pass to Jomsom, I had to put away my cameras. But there were some pretty sketchy sections, including having to go through a water-filled cave/tunnel crawling on my butt, and a few sections of rock scrambling over snow and ice. The horses couldn't go that way, so they were forced to swim in the river beneath the cliffs. By the end of the day, where you see us in the home of the family, we were totally soaked, tired and defeated. So we were so grateful they let us in and helped us. A lot of people in town saw us coming and ran inside, not opening their doors, but that family was exceptionally kind. The following night, we also took a huge 50+ km hike, finishing about 8 p.m., and were attacked that night. I made a separate video describing the event. But there was a lot that happened towards the end that didn't make any videos. There's still frontier justice out there.
Shout out from North Pole Alaska!!! Wow!! We loved this video so very much!! This was done so well !! We enjoyed every minute of it and wanted more !!! Thank you so very much!!! Wow!!!

Some extraordinary adventure indeed. Couldn't take my eyes off or skip a second till the end. Dwelling in the country itself, seems there are places lot to explore and worth knowing about. And have to admit it that, this whole movie was an *eximious* work of art!
Thank you sir. New video coming soon. I just returned from Langtang region, Nepal. It's a bit more popular and a standard trek with lots of tourists, but I hope to make a good video all the same.
I'm presently re-reading for the third time Peter Matthiessen's “The Snow Leopard” and am loving this video that is in the region covered by that book. Wonderful to see.
Upper Dolpo exploring hidden Nepal would have been perfect title. Anyway very nicely done video, close observation of the people and their lifestyle, loved it.
My father spent time in Napal directly after WWII. I don't know why or for what purpose. His letters, some unopened, were more 'at the moment instead of future'. He had passed away over two years before. I never ask about WWII. I had been scolded by my mother or asking personal questions. Yet he always spoke about hid ideas of liveing one's life that he must of acquired in the three years that he was in Nepal. I'm almost 70, I been so many places on this Earth. I would like to make one more trip, move. I don't feel that a couple of weeks will fill in the blanks of the questionnaire in my mind of who,.what, when, where, and how that explains why Napal? I wanted to go before I read the letters. I understand from the in-depth DNA study I was part of that my blood type and old markers are the lesser of all. And that many many centuries ago my ancestors passed through the land called Napal. Thanks for shareing your adventure. I so enjoyed it.

There's still frontier justice out there.
thank you jonathan sir for this beautiful documentary . best wishes from Nepal ❤

Gloria M. Mcgee It is Nepal not Napal.
Napal and Nepal has its own difference !!
