This is the man who produced the films of Harold Lloyd, Laurel and Hardy, and the Our Gang/Little Rascals. He deserves not only the honorary Oscar, but the respect and gratitude of every current film maker in Hollywood.

I don't agree. I am only aware of a few of them dying young. One became a doctor, many created successful businesses. Jackie Cooper did fine and so did Robert Blake until he did too many drugs and started killing people. The statistics on that particular group of children does not lean toward tragedy and is fairly the same for any group of children.

Great respect for Jackie Cooper, but many of Harold Lloyd's best films weren't produced by Hal Roach, but by Lloyd himself. Among the great and timeless films that Lloyd himself produced were Girl Shy, The Freshman (his highest-grossing silent feature), The Kid Brother, and Speedy, his final silent film. It's a shame that Buster Keaton didn't produce his own films in his prime, as Lloyd and Chaplin did.
