The Andy Williams Show was an American television variety show that ran from 1962 to 1971. He recorded 43 albums in his career, of which 15 have been gold certified
Then you also remember that Mooning and Streaking was also a good Friday and Saturday night event. The kids might think it was just the movies but where do they think the idea came from
Moon River was my parents song. They saw Breakfast at Tiffany's on one of their first dates and they would have celebrated 58 years of bliss this year. It is so romantic!
This was one of the most beloved hits of the early '60s. Another excellent version was recorded a couple of years later by the great soul singer Jerry Butler.
I absolutely love Andy Williams...he used to do wonderful Cristmas specials back in the day...I'm pretty sure he was responsible for introducing the Osmond Brothers to the world...
Pat Boone's daughters also performed on his weekly series. Linda Ronstadt performed with Andy Williams on his show in the early years, probably barefoot.
"Moon River" is a song composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It was originally performed by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song. I have always loved this sing because I find the chord progression to be musically interesting.
Amber & Jay, Breakfast at Tiffany's is a movie you need to see. Mancini is a legend. He wrote "Baby Elephant Walk" for goodness sake! I'm partial to Audrey Hepburn's version of "Moon River." Of course, I'm pretty much partial to anything Audrey Hepburn ever did.
I grew up in the last half of the 1950's, throughout the 1960's, & first half of the 70's listening to all the great crooners. Andy Williams is always the first one to come to mind when I think of that beautiful style. Each Christmas, my parents and I would play our LP Christmas records (which I still have), listening to the wonderful voices of Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, the Carpenters, Elvis Presley, and others melodiously singing the sacred and secular songs of the Christmas season! Many years later, my wife and I carried on the same tradition with our four children, and it's a treasured part of our memories, both theirs and ours.
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” Christmas carol. You know you’ve heard it a million times. I love Andy Williams and always have since I was a little kid.
Okay, I KNOW what y'all are going to say here. I know. I wouldn't believe me either. But here it is: I sang backup for Andy Williams during his Christmas tour in 1985. He made a swing through the Midwest that year, and in many of his stops, the tour arranged for local college and high school choirs to sing backup for him onstage, a kind of publicity stunt, I suppose, but the producers did their jobs well and stuck to jazz and show choirs in each city, so for Kalamazoo, that meant Western Michigan University's Gold Company vocal jazz ensemble got the gig. He was an amazing guy. Physically tiny-- like, 5'-2" or so-- but a voice that could still peel the paint off the back wall of the auditorium. His voice was deceptively powerful; he could get over an entire orchestra without breaking a sweat. He very much kept to himself; he even seemed a bit shy. Fun fact: former Mouseketeer Cubby O'Brien was his drummer on that tour. He was so great! I told him I was going to be auditioning for Disney theme parks in the spring, and he appeared to get a genuine tear in his eye; he spoke fondly of those days (it was the 1950s), and Annette and Frankie, and yes, they still kept in touch, and yes, he cried the day Walt died... Honestly, one of my favorite memories. So cool.

Would love for you two to react to "The Girl From Ipanema" with Astrud Gilberto. Classy, subtle, Bossa Nova/jazz song that was an instant international hit and won a Grammy for the Record of the Year in 1965. You'll love her breathy voice, the rhythm of the song, and the wonderful instrumentation. Lots of sax!
Andy Williams, one of the best "crooners"!! He also was part of a group with his brothers, The Williams Brothers, they were all on his Christmas Specials and he did discover the Osmond Brothers when Donnie was the youngest!! I was taking piano lessons and played this song in this 7th grade!! I'm 70 now! Love your channel and family!
well he started with his brothers as backup singers for Bing Crosby in the 40's & then with help from Kay Thompson (who was a sort of Miss Everything... author...singer. actress...producer.. he eventually went solo & had some pop hits before he found his niche as a torch singer.. one of the smoothest voices ever.. check out some pop hits.. Can't Get Used To Losing You, Music To Watch Girls By.. but it is really the slower songs he shines on.. The Days Of Wine & Roses, Theme from Love Story (Where Do I Begin).. and many more.. nice reaction to a major talent.. he was a legend..
My Mom used to play this song on her piano by ear and she and I would harmonize to it. I have such fond memories of this song. Thanks for reacting to it. ❤️
Back when you guys did that incredible solo by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers (wearing his pink suit) singing "Unchained Melody," live, it was on NBC-TV's "The Andy Williams Show," which ran for well over a decade in prime time. It was one of the longer-running musical/variety shows that ever ran on TV. Andy's guest list on that show reads like a Who's Who of American popular music (or at least Adult Contemporary music) from the 1960s and early '70s. Mostly Andy and his contemporaries were artists that my parents would listen to (I grew up on the Beatles, Righteous Brothers, Beach Boys, Motown, etc.) But Andy Williams cannot be discounted as a force. The song "Moon River" will forever be the one he's most closely associated with. And yet, he never released it as a single (which comes as a surprise to many). Some of his best songs include, "Can't Get Used to Losing You," "Days of Wine and Roses," and my favorite by Andy Williams, a Bossa Nova piece called "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)." ruclips.net/video/MB6nrYLRp_Y/видео.html But honestly, you can't get through the Christmas season, even today ten years after his death, without hearing Andy Williams singing Christmas songs on radio and television in commercials, none more ubiquitous than "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." ruclips.net/video/gFtb3EtjEic/видео.html Speaking of crooners (and I know how much you love your crooners), here's one that has been conspicuously overlooked by you and every other reaction channel that I know of. And at 95, he remains a living legend and a national treasure. He recently appeared in a "farewell" concert with Lady Gaga that was broadcast on CBS. It was simply breathtaking. I'm speaking, of course, of the great Tony Bennett. Frank Sinatra called him his favorite singer. And Tony has a stunning catalog of hits from which to choose. Here are just a few highlights: "(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco" -- the song he's best known for -- ruclips.net/video/QIowMwbHTSI/видео.html "If I Ruled the World" -- ruclips.net/video/Wsxo9kFA5KU/видео.html "I Wanna Be Around" -- one of the greatest f--- you songs ever recorded. -- ruclips.net/video/4ml_V7HNIsY/видео.html And a couple that he recorded as duets with more contemporary artists in recent years: "The Lady Is A Tramp" (featuring Lady Gaga) -- this is just adorable -- ruclips.net/video/ZPAmDULCVrU/видео.html "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (featuring Michael Buble -- pronounced boo-BLAY') - ruclips.net/video/uV7aBzuxUZ8/видео.html You could spend a very long time doing a deep dive into crooners. There have been so many of them that you guys don't even know about.
Henry Mancini always said that Audrey Hepburn’s rendition of this song in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” was the best version. It was softly sung with a minimal acoustic guitar, dreamy and lovely….. Also, the studio wanted to cut the song, and Audrey fought hard to keep it.
Henry Mancini's Moon River is from the Movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, a must see starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard.. Audrey sang this in the movie. Except the Mickey Rooney parts imitating a Japanese man was really tacky by today's standards. i always think of my parents in the 1960's when I hear this song, brings a tear to my eye.
Such a great song! This won the academy award for best song from the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's. It also won grammys for best song and best record of the year (1961?). It became Andy's signature song and is a big favorite of mine. Thank you for playing it!!!💛❤💙
The woman in one of the photos is Claudine Longet, a French singer that became his wife for several years. She had some hit songs as well, though some were in French. Love Is Blue is a very lovely song by her. They had some duets together also. You will instantly recognize some of his Christmas songs as they are classics.
You missed him at Christmas. His nickname is Mr Christmas and his best song is It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Don’t miss it next Christmas you will love it
Certain singers "own" some songs they record, like Nat King Cole with "The Christmas Song" and Dean Martin with "Everybody Loves Somebody". Andy Williams owns "Moon River".
Moon River by Andy Williams and Tammy by Debbie Reynolds have bucolic, river/bayou vibes. Both songs are full of yearning and longing, but not sadness. Love them both. Thanks for this reaction.
Wow, Blast from the past! "Tammy" from "Tammy and the Bachelor" Spent some of my paper route money to see that film. Came away with a mad crush on Debbie Reynolds. Beautiful song, beautiful woman.
One does not hear this song much anymore. Music is amazing... I'm back in the family living room, watching this on TV, with my family, warm and safe. Just a totally wonderful tune from that era of kinder, gentler tunes. Thanks.
Andy spent the last 20+ years of his career in Branson, MO, performing at his Moon River Theater, which seated over 2,000. It was packed with afternoon and evening performances. I saw him a couple of times there, once with Petula Clark as his guest star. The man was going into his 80's, and was featured in Branson's Christmas parade every year.
Thank you. I'm crying, but I really appreciate this reaction. My dad used to sing this to me all the time. He passed in 1997, both of us were too young, but I still think of him with this song and it still brings a teary smile. Love you both!
Andy Williams' voice was as smooth as silk. Another great crooner is Johnny Mathis. I see that you reviewed one of his Christmas song. I think that you would enjoy one of his romantic songs from the late fifties like "Wonderful, Wonderful" or "It's Not For Me To Say"... ruclips.net/video/c5c5YUTRvkw/видео.html
Andy Williams was friends with Robert F. Kennedy, and sang at his funeral, I think the Battle Hymn of the Republic. He also covered Dion's "Abraham, Martin, and John" which memorializes Bobby Kennedy in the final verse. Something to consider.
He had a variety show on tv when I was a kid. My Dad never missed it. He always did songs with his musical guests and solo. Coolest crooner ! Coolest voice!
To me, Andy Williams had one of the best crooner voices ever! You might also want to check out: "Can't Get Used to Losin' You", "Hopeless" and "Love Theme from The Godfather". Pure crooner perfection!
omg! This one brought a tear to my eye. He was one of my dad's favorite artists. Dad used to sing this song around the house when I was a kid, and it made me think of him. My dad died in 2006. Andy Williams had his own show on TV back in the 60's, and his Christmas show was always so lovely, with all kinds of guests. Kind of makes me sad, there aren't really anything like that anymore.
I cry every time I hear this song. My grandmother loved this song, and it reminds me of her and brings back memories of her. Thank you for sharing this song.
Seeing a lot of comments about Andy introducing The Osmond Brothers on his TV show. Would absolutely LOVE to see you guys react to The Osmonds "Down by the Lazy River"! Obsolute banger!
Tony Bennett - "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". Amazing voice and classic crooner song. If you react to it use a studio version (not live) - its the best.
Jay/Amber, his "(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story" and "Music to Watch Girls By" are next for you!! He hosted The Andy Williams Show, a television variety show for 9 years, so we heard a lot of him back in the day.
My mother was absolutely in love with Andy Williams. This was from the Audrey Hepburn movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's" he also discovered the Osmonds and brought them on his tv show. He was just wonderful. His most famous Christmas song is "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year"
A very cool fact that I learned of just a few years ago: Andy Williams was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorite singers to listen to when he wanted to just come home and relax! I fully agree with Jimi's choice, because Andy has such a wonderfully smooth voice. Also, Andy had has own television show for many years, and he sang, live on the show, with many other great artists, such as Simon and Garfunkel!
I was a little girl when Andy had his TV show. This was his theme song. When he started singing it, my cat Cloudy would run into the Den, jump up on the TV, and watch him upside down, the whole show, every week! She LOVED Andy Williams!!
My entire family used to watch his Saturday night TV show. He had an amazing voice and had great special guests every week. His Christmas special was just that, special. He introduced the world to the Osmond Brothers, too.
A good cigar, two fingers of brandy, big armchair on a winter day, the dog and I watching the snow come down, and this song was playing, that was a life everlasting moment in a life.
You should check out one of his Christmas Shows. I watched every single one and there were quite a lot of them. I also saw one of his Christmas Concerts in the 80's at The Valley Forge Music Fair which was not to far from where I lived. Two of his guests were a very young Joey and Matthew Lawrence who lived in a town not too far from where I lived. I loved Andy's music since I was 5 years old. I encourage you to watch the one with The Osmond Brothers and and Andy's three older brothers. In case if you didn't know, Andy and his brothers were the "Osmond Brothers" back in their day.
He had his own variety show, showcased the Osmonds a lot. Lennon Sisters, young people. He was so good with children when you watch him and kids on the Christmas Specials, a staple in the day.
After Moon River the songs that first come to my mind for Andy Williams are Born Free and the Christmas song, It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.
Moon river from the 60's movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn as the female lead. So nostalgic. Bring back memories.
The Andy Williams Show was an American television variety show that ran from 1962 to 1971. He recorded 43 albums in his career, of which 15 have been gold certified

I did too. He was a part of my ‘wonder years’.

Gave up hope when they ignored Andy last Christmas. THIS is my mother's favorite song so I am glad they finally got around to this artist.
His Christmas albums are the best!
He also introduced the world to the Osmond Brothers.
Andy Williams always had the friendliest face and smile. . Not to mention voice. All around awesome era he came from.
MY OPINION ONE OF THE SMOOOOTHEST VOICES FROM BACK IN THE DAY
Andy Williams is the one who introduced us to the OSMOND BROTHERS when they were all youngsters singing barbershop harmonies.
Moon River was my parents song. They saw Breakfast at Tiffany's on one of their first dates and they would have celebrated 58 years of bliss this year. It is so romantic!
The song took up a very small part of the movie. Audrey Hepburn sitting on the window sill strumming and singing two verses of the tune.
Mine, too ❤️
This was one of the most beloved hits of the early '60s. Another excellent version was recorded a couple of years later by the great soul singer Jerry Butler.

I cry my eyes out too... It reminds me of my parents who are long gone😢
Still have my original LP of that!
Great suggestion! I think they'll love it, too!
There's actually a recording on RUclips with Andy Williams and someone else (maybe the guy you recommended) singing the Girl from Ipanema together.
@lisa yes that was Jobim the composer of the song
I think this might be Andy Williams' most famous recording...he did a fabulous job on it. He had the perfect voice for it. He's greatly missed.
I'm 64, my piano teacher also had me play this song!
Donnie is still the youngest. LOL.
One of my favorite singers and one of my favorite songs! Back when music was meaningful
I can’ Get used to losing you. Is my favourite song by him. The violins in it are awesome.
Agree, beautiful!
Yes Indeed. Loved that one.
👍👍👍👍
well he started with his brothers as backup singers for Bing Crosby in the 40's & then with help from Kay Thompson (who was a sort of Miss Everything... author...singer. actress...producer.. he eventually went solo & had some pop hits before he found his niche as a torch singer.. one of the smoothest voices ever.. check out some pop hits..
Love Andy, and the backup singers sound like the singers on the 1960s animated Christmas specials like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Some of his best songs include, "Can't Get Used to Losing You," "Days of Wine and Roses," and my favorite by Andy Williams, a Bossa Nova piece called "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)." ruclips.net/video/MB6nrYLRp_Y/видео.html But honestly, you can't get through the Christmas season, even today ten years after his death, without hearing Andy Williams singing Christmas songs on radio and television in commercials, none more ubiquitous than "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." ruclips.net/video/gFtb3EtjEic/видео.html
Speaking of crooners (and I know how much you love your crooners), here's one that has been conspicuously overlooked by you and every other reaction channel that I know of. Here are just a few highlights:
"(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco" -- the song he's best known for -- ruclips.net/video/QIowMwbHTSI/видео.html
"If I Ruled the World" -- ruclips.net/video/Wsxo9kFA5KU/видео.html
"I Wanna Be Around" -- one of the greatest f--- you songs ever recorded. -- ruclips.net/video/4ml_V7HNIsY/видео.html
And a couple that he recorded as duets with more contemporary artists in recent years:
"The Lady Is A Tramp" (featuring Lady Gaga) -- this is just adorable -- ruclips.net/video/ZPAmDULCVrU/видео.html
"Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (featuring Michael Buble -- pronounced boo-BLAY') - ruclips.net/video/uV7aBzuxUZ8/видео.html
You could spend a very long time doing a deep dive into crooners. There have been so many of them that you guys don't even know about.
Do not forget the Jackson 5, who were regular guests. And the original Cookie Bear.
The Osmonds got started, and were on his show pretty regularly.
Audrey's will always be my favorite version!
Thank God she did
This is by far the best.
Andy Williams 3 other brothers sang backup on alot of his recording ,they started out as a group in the late 1940s
Really a melancholy song for her melancholy character. That Mickey Rooney caricature sure was tacky, I think even in those days.
Andy Williams ‘ Theme from Love Story ‘ is a must listen and a great movie.
Sinatra, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby…some of the greatest “crooners”.
Don’t forget the young Tony Bennett.
And Dean Martin
My favorite voice
Such a great song! This won the academy award for best song from the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's. It also won grammys for best song and best record of the year (1961?). It became Andy's signature song and is a big favorite of mine. Thank you for playing it!!!💛❤💙
The perfect male singing voice. Dynamics, phrasing, power, touch, range, vibrato. The whole package.
The woman in one of the photos is Claudine Longet, a French singer that became his wife for several years. She had some hit songs as well, though some were in French. Love Is Blue is a very lovely song by her. They had some duets together also. You will instantly recognize some of his Christmas songs as they are classics.
And then she ran off with Pierre Trudeau, the PM of Canada (Justin Trudeau's father). Big scandal!
And she shot and killed her famous skier lover Spider Sabich. Andy (by then her ex) stood by her side.
You missed him at Christmas. His nickname is Mr Christmas and his best song is It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Don’t miss it next Christmas you will love it
We've been married 60 years and this is "our song". Thank you!!!
Certain singers "own" some songs they record, like Nat King Cole with "The Christmas Song" and Dean Martin with "Everybody Loves Somebody". Andy Williams owns "Moon River".
Yes, very true! Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" as well!
"Tammy" would make a great Female Friday pick!
Love Tammy. She comes across so innocent and such a beautiful voice.
Loved Tammy movies and Debbie singing "Tammy", I dreamed of living on a house boat on a river somewhere.
Oh man....
I am in tears right now!
My mom LOVED both of these songs .....
Moon River
Tammy
I miss you mom and dad.
This is one of the all time great standards. Such a pure evocative voice.
One does not hear this song much anymore. Music is amazing... I'm back in the family living room, watching this on TV, with my family, warm and safe. Just a totally wonderful tune from that era of kinder, gentler tunes. Thanks.
Well said...
I agree 👍
He is so smooth. Easy on the ears.
Andy Williams was friends with Robert F. Kennedy, and sang at his funeral, I think the Battle Hymn of the Republic. He also covered Dion's "Abraham, Martin, and John" which memorializes Bobby Kennedy in the final verse. Something to consider.
Gorgeous eyes and gorgeous voice! Love it! I grew up on his Christmas specials and his show.
He sings with Simon and Garfunkel. A must see and listen! Scarborough Fair. Mesmerizing!
I already suggested this as well before I saw this comment. I love that version of Scarborough Fair.
May be the most beautiful crooner voice the u.s. had. And that's saying alot. But just my opinion. 😅
Andy has what my mom likes to call, a ‘southern comfort’ voice, and boy does it show. ☺️
As a kid His tv show and especially his Christmas specials were must see in my house
Andy Williams was a wonderful talent. And such a lovely man. Back in the 70s he did Christmas Specials on TV 📺.
I cry every time I hear this song. My grandmother loved this song, and it reminds me of her and brings back memories of her. Thank you for sharing this song.
I feel the same way. My mom loved this.
I love his beautiful voice. When I was a young girl, it felt like he was singing just to me.
This takes me back to my childhood , being in my grandparents home , and my grandmother singing along to Andy Williams playing on the turntable. ❤
I’m in my 80s this era of the ballad singers was such a joy, much of their music is still popular today especially among the old romantics, like me.😊
Seeing a lot of comments about Andy introducing The Osmond Brothers on his TV show.
For some reason, they've been sleeping on the GREAT Tony Bennett. Hopefully one day soon, they'll wake up!
Jay/Amber, his "(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story" and "Music to Watch Girls By" are next for you!! He hosted The Andy Williams Show, a television variety show for 9 years, so we heard a lot of him back in the day.
No question the 60s had the greatest singers and he's one of them and the best songs. Can't get over Losing You is my favorite song of his.
My mother was absolutely in love with Andy Williams. This was from the Audrey Hepburn movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's" he also discovered the Osmonds and brought them on his tv show. He was just wonderful. His most famous Christmas song is "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year"
2 MUST HEAR Classics From This Same Time Period:: Jimmie Rodgers "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" & "Honeycomb"..Both Huge Hits For Him.
Goosebumps 😊
My dad had an album with Andy Williams singing famous songs from movies, so I grew up listening to this song. This was in the 1960's.
Loved this entertainer!! Fun times watching his musical TV show! It was a family night!
When I was young I nearly wore the grooves off my parent's Andy Williams albums! Love his voice!
love moon river song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
