My auntie had something similar... the top came to our house 'on loan' for me to use as a display cabinet for the nationality dolls I collected as a child. Top and bottom were eventually reunited and she sold it for a good price when that style of furniture was sought after.

In the US anyway, this is called a secretary desk. I love them. My dad made one for his mother over 60 years ago and I now have one from my husband's side of the family. I don't know what happened to the one my dad made. To me the two tone looks good on the upper area. I'm not so sure about the outside door area. It may look different in person and I'm sure it would grow on me. I really like that this piece has glass doors. The one I currently have does not have glass doors. You do a very nice job refinishing furniture.

I was truly apprehensive as to what this was going to look like when you started. I think you've given me some inspiration for a small MCM China hutch my sister lifted me. It was a piece that was in her husband's family. I won't keep it but my mind is working on some ideas!!

Just used black stain on my oak bathroom cabinet!! I love that the texture and color of the grain is still visible through it. This is such a beautiful piece, awesome job!!
Very nice. A good take on a farmhouse chic look. As far as the Mish made of styles. It was common a hundred years ago. Have a sideboard that's federal, empire with a helping of Asian styles all in one. Also made of quarter sawn oak. That's a mouthful. As far as the black stain alot of mission style was stained that way. Again great work on the cabinet. Looks like a million bucks!!!
It truly was a "trust the process" piece. In my head, when I heard you were staining it black, I said Nooooooo. 😱 But really loved it at the end. 😇 I have seen several others on youtube restore furniture but never felt led to subscribe. Then I saw you include your family in such a sweet way and was like I love each of your work and the sweet moments you share with your son.
