Depending on the sauce, sometimes twirling is not enough to get a mouth bite all together on the fork. Sometimes it slips and just hang from the fork... and you can't eat it easily at all. So, should you bite the hanging pasta or slurp it? I believe just bite it.
NO you are doing it wrong you don't just plunge the fork in your pasta and twirl, you get a few strands with the fork then twirl on the side of the plate, if you do it your way you end up with too much pasta on that fork. The reason we don't use bowls is because bowls are for soup, not for pasta, the pasta in a bowl will end up continuing the cooking process with the heat and vapor of the pasta, and it has to be al dente.
Hello! Thank you so much for watching! Very good point! However that’s what I was attempting to do -just pull a strand or two from the side and twirl that. I don’t use pasta bowls, but I use very large coupes, which do let the heat dissipate. Because, of course we want our pasta to be al dente.

@@HeidiDulebohn1 I hope I didn't seem rude, but as an Italian that lives in Rome Italy, we can't accept many videos that show eating spaghetti with a spoon and fork. You did a pretty good job, just take a few strands from the side of the pasta, we only cut spaghetti for very small children that are learning to eat on their own. I find it odd that Americans learn how to use chop sticks for Asian food but can't twirl spaghetti on a fork. 🤣

You do use your spoon,or not.Both is acceptable and useful based on the pasta.
Actually, not true. A spoon is not proper etiquette to use in fine dining. If it's not fine dining, then of course, anything goes. As per Italians, they would never use a spoon, hence why a spoon is not used. :)
what if there's a garlic bread?
With or without fork and spoon? With a spoon you can control better the quantity AND BETTER CONTROL THE TOMATO SAUCE, SO THAT THIS SAUCE DONT WASTE THE CLOTHS. So we will learn the grandchildren to use fork and spoon. So both hands are above the table.
It's me who dislike it , as it has to be done till she finished the plate ( a smaller portion might be helpful) because in this video it's just a bite of the whole real story which you wonder about the end of it ...

It seems that using a spoon makes it easier to eat, but if it’s gauche it’s gauche.

If you’ve eaten all the pasta and you still have some sauce left over, the proper thing to do is either leave the sauce, or use your fork to eat a few bites of the leftover sauce. It is not considered good form to use any bread to mop up the extra sauce. However, if you’re home alone, and nobody’s looking and the sauce is fantastic, use your bread and enjoy the sauce lol. Just be aware that is not proper etiquette, but it might be really delicious and fun.

i NOTICED that people who swirl are also the ones who get it on their chins. Cutting with knife method never gets it on their chins.
I am so conflicted. That is how I used to have pasta. My girlfriend at the time her father gave me stern look and saod, no no no. I show you. Take the spoon and like this. I have been that ever since and other italinas have said I have not seen that since my grandfther. Is it a culrtal thing?

Noodles actually originated in China. Chopsticks are the traditional way to eat soaghetti.

I am in Florence now. Day 3. Ordered a pasta similar to spaghetti today, and it was served in a bowl with fork and knife. And I could not twirl this thick pasta around my fork, so I have asked for a spoon. Now I feel myself double dumb....

But, absolutely do not feel badly about asking for a spoon. You will meet Italians who actually do that! However, generally speaking, it’s not done so much. The bottom line is, you sound like a very kind conscientious person, and that is the definition of good etiquette, being respectful, no matter how you eat your spaghetti however, I’m sure you did a marvelous job!!💕💕💕🍝

Hello! Yes, of course you’re right, but, it depends on the setting, if you’re in Europe, you are spot on, if you are in the United States, it commonly means the main plate. Perhaps you’re dining in a European restaurant in the United States, and then yes, they probably been starter for first course.

The twirling thing, it’s all in the wrist, and the secret is only take one or two strands of spaghetti at a time, and then twirl. Most people try to spear a whole bunch of spaghetti at one time and try to troll it, that’s never going to work. Just take it steady and slow, one or two strands at a time. Enjoy the spaghetti and hope you have a lovely glass of wine to enjoy along with it!

Twirling the fork in the spoon is perfectly acceptable. You could have stated that it is an alternate method.
