You say a parent perhaps should not be looking at private massages of their kids account! ok but then where is the control? that is the crux of the matter is it not? and second question what if your child just flatly refuses to accept that social media could be misused? or is not BIG deal

There are a couple issues with reading your child's private messages, and I should probably do a whole video on it. In a nut shell, if you are doing it, and they know it, then since you aren't allowing them a private space to have conversations without you, they are likely to eventually go find a private space that you don't know about. If you are reading their private messages and they do NOT know it, then the problem with that is that you are eroding the trust in the relationship by spying. I can't imagine how that ends up working out positively. Yes, you'd know if there was some sort of danger, but you'll only get to act on that once, then your spying days are over, as well as the trust. I'm suggesting that as children grow older, they should be allowed some private spaces to have conversations with friends. In so many areas, we need to gradually allow more autonomy and independence to our children as they mature.

@@PatrickGreen I understand your logic ...and not knowing all the ins and outs I was not aware that there is a such a thing as private message!...I thought that once you follow somebody you can see everything they have! any way I still donlt know how to solve the problem of 1)age in appropriate communications between child and it's friends and 2) stop unknowns strangers form becoming followers ! This entire social media is challenge coupled with teenager anger and what not that goes with it ..
