Great video. Sous vide cooker could also work for maintaining the water temperature in a vessel without needing the second temp controller. Inkbird version goes on sale for around 50.
Drinking my lutra kveik fermented light lager while watching this! Great "reverse chiller" type methods. The Anvil bucket fermenter and their cooling system are awesome!
You can go even simpler yo. Sous vide stick attached to a storage bin. Bucket in the bin, fill with water, set stick to 120. I did that for your kveik hazy IPA and it worked great. I don’t have a Anvil or a pump, but I already had the stick.
Mad a double black ipa with kviek wrapped in a sleeping bag over a space heater ... it was winter so didn't matter. Turned it up and down depending on how hot it went buy def hit up to 110. No off flavours, one of the best I ever brewed.
I’ve only used this yeast for seltzer so far but I’ve discovered if I pitch at desired fermentation temp and wrap my carboy in my handy dandy electric blanket on the lowest setting, it works amazingly. Very consistent temperature.
Big fan of the channel. Just getting into homebrew and loving the content. Just wondering do you not use heat pads for temp control in america? Mine seems to do the trick and is pretty cheap just hooked upto a inkbird.
Use your Anvil all in one brewery as the fermenter. If you have a Brewzilla, get the cheap distillation lid and a bung for your blow off tube. Don't do this with Bret, it's hard to get rid off, even with boiling. Dump your wort into a no-chill container and transfer back into the clean brewery. I know, this is more radical than the head explosion scene from Scanners. Credit where it's due, it's not my idea, and it's not much use if ambient temperature is above your fermentation temperature. That's so uncool.
I use an old fridge, put in a 75 Watt light bulb that sits on two dishes (not to melt the inside of the fridge) and attach it to an Inkbird. Easy, cheap, great temp control.
I've used Opshaug Kveik Ale Yeast and Hornindal Kveik with excellent results. I ferment in my basement, which averages around 50 degrees in the winter and 60 degrees in the summer. I just put a heat wrap and a couple towels around my bucket and set my Inkbird at 90 degrees. No issues.
Have you tried Lutra by pitching at 90+F and then letting the fermenter naturally cool to room temperature? I still hit FG in 72 hours and I have made really clean pseudo lagers this way. I know cooling temperatures during fermentation is undesirable for traditional yeasts, but I haven’t had any issues with Lutra, Espe, or Voss. Curious if others have tried this.
Maybe I'm late to the game, but couldn't you just ferment in the Anvil Foundry set to 95? Saran wrap the lid to keep it somewhat airtight and avoid needing a pump and temp control? Am I missing something?
Just because I am curious. An aquarium heater doesn’t work to keep the water at high enough temps in a cooler? Or does it tend to melt the plastic? Can’t you use a extra 5 gallon or 3 gallon pot with an aquarium heater and some holes in a lid? Just random thoughts on it.
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE oh man.. yeah I haven’t tried it. So I was thinking it could maybe get to 100. As a side note. I’m fairly local to SD, can your channel use a stainless 15 gallon kettle FREEEEE.
The anova nano sous vide cooker often goes on sale for $80-100. If you swap that in place of the $50 coffee pot you can eliminate the need for one of the two temp controllers and accomplish this hack. Then you could make yourself the perfect steak. Cheers to eating good and drinking good. 🍻
I feel like to an extent you were super close to an even better revelation but made it needlessly complicated at the 1 yard line....Just ferment in the anvil foundry set to 95 the same way you would do for a kettle sour
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Fair sorry I commented half way through watching before seeing the second part where you did it without the foundry. Keep up the good work braj.
Just got some Yakima valley hops this week. Picked up some Bru -1, never used it. Looking at possibly a hazy with it to give a sweet pineapple flavoring. Any other recipe ideas for it?
Howdy Braj lord….why not a 4 gallon pot and sous vide machine, submersible pump, and inkbird? I imagine electric bill would be less. Edit: I spoke too soon. That souring option is worth it. Edit 2 electric boogaloo: totally looking forward to the sous video!
I thought about this but the mash and boil shuts off after 4 hours for "safety". I just painters tape a seeding mat to the side of a bucket and wrap and old jacket around it. Fire is what smoke detectors are for, I want my money worth out of them.
Think you could just put an extension cord on the "heat" plug for the inkbird, and plug in both the coffee pot and the pump to that? Should work fine I'd imagine, bypass one of the temp controllers at least
Honest question: Why can't English speaker's not pronounce kv as kv but have to add a vowel and go k'aveik or kuveik? To be fair, us Swedes can't pronounce W or V in English either! It's wery veird! 😅

Erm…. Brew belt and neoprene jacket, coupled with an inkbird and a thermocouple. Works all year in NZ
Great video! Ever thought of using an aquarium chiller for lowering fermentation temperatures?
It makes zero sense forking out that much money. But sure, if you have it, use it.

Might be OK to ferment high on large scale by pitching high and setup the glycol to stay that way. Fermentation is generating heat.
Glycol systems are ultimately just refrigerators. You would need a whole new system for “hot” temp control
Understood. I did not think big at all haha.
And maybe if the glycol returns too hot it would impact all the fermenters.
Solid video as always braj 🤘

why not just ferment in the coffee pot. they are available with temperature controls and easy to seal the lid and ferment under pressure.
You would need a huge coffee pot for that to work

So...Kveik is still a thing? I thought it already went the way of the black and Brut IPA.
Would this thing keep water hot enough to double as a HLT for sparge water?
