Saw them at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC a couple of years ago where they performed this piece as an encore. It was absolutely amazing! Hard to put into words. It’s like traveling back in time and hearing music as it must have been heard and experienced in the renaissance.
It's amazing to see, as the camera pans across the group, how their various expressions look exactly like those you can see in old depictions of choirs: some frowning, some wildly-red-faced, some seeming to be in pain, some big, some small, etc.
Scanning different performances of this work, this holds up really well - not a sluggish tempo, but very heartfelt. And, dare one remark, believeable as 'authentic'?
