"If you do something twice, then it sounds like a theme, if you do something three times, it sounds like a motif" - sage words from sensei Friedman.

Very true, he views instrumental music as songs with his guitar as the main 'voice' of the piece.

Such a great player, so unique. Probably the most harmony-aware player of this genre.

    • @jasonsidwell

He sure is and was keen to have the harmony interesting so that he could 'sing' over it; a great musician!

I always imagine Marty and Gary Moore playing together, Marty goes bluesy and Gary goes a little Japanesk, that's would've been total vibrato euphoria.

Marty could play other peoples farts and still make them sound tasteful and in tune...FFS, he is so on another level. I love this guy since 1986 and even his early works are standing alone in this world as amazing pieces. I still listen to everything he does, just because I always find a small phrase, a bend, a chosen note that I havent picked up before and I get. a smile on my face.

I saw your comment in this full video, it brought me here, and I have to say... This is perhaps the most beautiful, most melodically satisfying, most melancholic guitar piece I've ever heard written and performed. And to have Marty of all people perform it is just like, ideal. It's so good. Seriously, props, you are incredibly talented, Jason!

Very nice of you to say, thanks! I only created/recorded the backing for Marty, the performance is all his creating. He's a one off; a great guy to collaborate with and a stunningly unique musician. Thanks for watching Junk Bond Trader!

@@jasonsidwell ah gotcha, in any case the comment still stands! I've always knew of Marty but recently went down a big Marty rabbit hole haha I'm obsessed with his playing. Usually players at the top are technical masters, or are more artistic/emotionally driven players... Marty is a master at both.

I actually ended up purchasing this magazine issue to start learning this... unfortunately the place I got it from (pocketMags) doesn't include the video or backing track, just the written tab because it's too old. The link you provided doesn't seem to offer issue gt301 anymore. Do you know if the video and backing track is still available for purchase somewhere?
