      Nope... maybe a little less magic smoke, but still seems to be running fine

    Huh. From the parts breakdown, I wouldn’t expect great receiver performance. Looks like the bulk of the IF level DSP is done in the STM32F4. That’s fine as processing the few kHz wide signals typical of ham radio is fine even for a general purpose uC like the F4.
    However, what I don’t see is the use of chips like the AD9364. The key there is the mixed signal, RF black magic that’s possible really only under full integration, where tough technical challenges like I/Q imbalance can be addressed effectively.
    Well, you get what you pay for.
    This radio certainly is quite usable. However, that last 5% of performance you’d get from higher end SDRs is what accounts for that extra 80% price premium.
    Heck, I’m seriously thinking of getting one. If the full baseband I/Q can be brought out, this would make a nice front-end for Gnuradio fun.

      I totally agree - this radio wins on size, features and hackability. Not so much on... "quality". I'm hoping to see a better Linux radio in the future now that the trail has been blazed.

    I was wondering if you could send a picture of the battery connection plugged in. In my limited wisdom, I unplugged it and am not sure which way it goes back in. My eyesight is not what it use to be and don't see where the plug should be inserted. I am having trouble after updating the firmware to 1.5.1 I am not able to get the battery to charge nor will the radio recognize the 13.volt supply when it is plugged in Thanks for the help in advance.

      I have some hires photos in the links in the description. I believe the battery connector only goes in one way without force.

      @@temporarilyoffline I got it figured out. But still have not figured out the problem with the upgrade I did but after doing it the battery would not charge nor would it work off a 13.8 volt supply THe firmware shows that it is the latest but the Base only shows an x not sure what should be there. open to suggestions

      I'd keep reflashing both firmwares until you got the rig version screen to be happy, then make sure charging is turned on and give it a good day on 13.8v

      @@temporarilyoffline the radio wouldn’t stay on long enough for me to do anything I’ve tried a factory reset and it wouldn’t take. I thought I could get it back so it would take a charge or work off 13 volts

    Any idea what the antenna impedance requirements are for the WiFi chip? What about cutting a bigger window on the side and embedding a better PCB antenna in it?

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  2 года назад

      No idea yet, I'd probably have to remove it and test... at that point, I'd want to just install a better antenna anyway
