First saw him On PBS television here in New York in the 70's. I laughed like hell, my friends thought I was nuts. Some people dont get pure funny. RIP Tommy.
Tommy had one of those faces where all he had to do was walk on stage and look at the audiance and they`d just burst into fits of laughter... his mannerisms were hilarious.... he didn`t have to do anything... he was just a naturaly funny bloke!! Awesome :o)
It was written specially for Tommy by Freddie Sadler (a "Comedy Impressionist and Compere") and Val Andrews (magical performer and comedy scriuptwriter), two of the very few writers that he ever had write for him. The rest is down to the sheer genius of Tommy himself.
I believe Tommy Cooper understood peoples reactions and knew what things to do would make people laugh the most. He's not "raw talent" he's artistic and comedic genius.
arryhuk, I agree with you 100%. He was the man. These sketches bring back so many memories of watching my Dad laughing at Tommy ( the only comedian who could make my Dad laugh )
I remember Tommy Cooper back in the early 1980s when it was on Channel 32 in Chicago (now part of the Fox network). I believe it was part of the weekday 'After Benny' hour (as in Benny Hill). Other comic actors included Cribbins, and Frankie Howard.
"In rushed a Frenchman, a little schoolboy.... I dont know who that is"....... pure genius, granted due to his accent parts of what he says are difficult to understand but you cant fault TC for sheer entertainment value
Simply the undisputed comedy legend Mr Tommy Cooper, the only man who could walk on stage and the audience were in stitches before he would even open his mouth. This hat routine is simply comedy genius, screws it up on purpose and makes it hilarious. Miss you so much Tommy, but my god you will always be remembered. RIP Lasty to the idiots who gave this a 👎You probably think tosh like the Big bang theory is funny! You simply don't get his comedic genius.
@larjanus .. thats the point about it. You remember the story, but with gaps. The way to tell this joke is that YOU fill in the gaps in order to keep it up to date. I'm quite sure that an "investment banker" or even "Sepp Blater" could work their way in there.
so right I was training with my team in Dublin on a thursday night when he was doing Pallidium, we showered and were in the bar waqtching him live.....................we were convinced it was an act when he went down clutching the curtain.............what a Legand
Funny as this is, he was getting on in years when it was performed and he missed out a few key lines.I have seen an older performance of 'Hats' where he got it word perfect, and it was side splitting.Does anyone have an earlier version of this classic Cooper routine?
I thought there was another line before the policeman’s whistle, In the middle of this fighting you could hear the bones and knuckles crunch. Then they heard a policeman’s whistle and he pinched the whole damn bunch. 😂 But maybe I was wrong 😂
i would love to see his final act,I know it sounds cold but i remember seeing it live as a boy and all anyone remembers is how it ended i want to see his last final work! A true Legend to be honest only Brucie left now from that era maybe Jimmy T too i guess
That fine line between looking like he's blown it and keeping everyone on board. A genius
a legend, a total nutter a beautiful guy.
what a tonic on a grey day to come and enjoy such a legacy.
a true national treasure.
the man had a gift.not many people could make others laugh without having to tell a joke.
This is one my all time favorite Tommy Cooper Sketches
First saw him On PBS television here in New York in the 70's. I laughed like hell, my friends thought I was nuts. Some people dont get pure funny. RIP Tommy.
So true
The part where he wacks himself with the Fireman helmet always gets me!
Tommy had one of those faces where all he had to do was walk on stage and look at the audiance and they`d just burst into fits of laughter... his mannerisms were hilarious.... he didn`t have to do anything... he was just a naturaly funny bloke!! Awesome :o)

I've never heard of this guy. I guess Benny had a better distributor. He's very good. I'll hunt down some more uploads of him.

He was not drunk - it was a comic routine.
Stephen Fry says Peter Cook is the funniest man who ever lived. Close, but no cigar. It was Tommy Cooper.
