    Can you imagine the management meeting, where they said:
    Lets make a digital saxophone. It should look like the imagined sax of a drug using punk, but in reality it is just a synthesizer that looks like a sax and has nothing to do with a traditional instrument at all. It will be great-lets sink some millions in it!
    JC, and I have to work for my money....

      they probably recycled guts from some other instrument and it didn't cost them that much. I used the recorder fingerings as you can see. The sound it makes was poor for its era. But considering that they took to time to at least have midi out means its pretty popular. It went fast and for a lot of coin.

      @@steamboat75043 I don't think its sound is all that poor. Yeah, it's no EWI, but it's also not too far off, all things considered

    Hello, how is this possible without remapping controllers? The sax transmits aftertouch value and not expression. Mine on normal synths where it is not possible to remap aftertouch with expression does not sound (or, better, It sounds without expression) Do you know something about it?

    • @steamboat75043
      @steamboat75043  2 года назад

      First you could get a volume pedal and pipe the synth into your board that way. Or try to use a midi pedal controller to control the syth volume. To increase volume through the note I don't think I demoed it but as wind player I probably tried to do it. I.e. crescendo after a note was played. So adding an expression pedal after the fact... however there is another way if you wanted to try, and that would be get an accordion midi controller that looks at the air pressure and sends a volume value. Or if you really want breath control get a spare mouthpiece, hook it up to this so the air pressure controls a midi signal and then use that for volume. TEControl USB MIDI Breath Controller would be an example. Just how much do you want to spend. Best of luck.

      @@steamboat75043 Thanks for the quick reply. Actually from your video it seemed that I could do the crescendo with the breath not with an expression pedal. I am a keyboard player and I can control the various synths with the Breath controller (I know the Tecontrol but I I have the BC03 connected to keyboards with BC input). But I wanted to exhume the old DH100 (mostly for fun honestly) and I realized that unlike the various BCs that transmit the CC 02 (so a sort of expression), this one transmits the speed (with the strength of the breath) and the CC of aftertouch. I was able to change the receive value of the expression with the aftertouch value on some vst synths and the result was good. But again, it's more for fun and experiment than anything else, I don't see myself on a stage with a plastic toy saxophone :) p.s. Did you ever try the VST SWAM Audio Modeling? I have got "The Trumpet" on the Ipad...outstanding, incredible!!! Happy New Year!

      @@emme4vaiano none of my musical interests took me in that direction. I thought it did breath volume but couldn't remember I sold it 2 years ago and didn't play it hardly until I sold it. I wouldn't worry about it on stage any more than some blues player with their old beater. And if you are really worried about presentation then paint it like a piece of art. Or paint it black. I am a keyboard player myself as well as low brass and build digital hauptwerk organs. If you scan through my uploads you can see all kinds of other videos. Seems like the ole DH-100 became something of a cult item. WIth a midi out it proved quite usable and far cheaper than the controllers at the time. And I might suggest if you are not going to use the keys then put it in a box cut off the speaker or put a resistor on it if you care, and make a small breath box with it. There are breath controllers out there too. I would explore it if I didn't already play wind instruments....

    Amazing how does that work do you flow into and you press a button that makes a noise or do you just hold it and press buttons and it makes noise

    • @steamboat75043
      @steamboat75043  2 года назад +1

      you can do it either way. being a wind player I used the breath control.

    Can this be used just as a breath controller? without keying on the midisax i mean?

      i guess if you could intercept just the control function for volume and ignore the midi note data that would work. I never tried it.

    Could anyone tell me what equipment is needed to play this digital horn through midi like in this video?

      Just a simple 5-pin MIDI cable. I used to have one. Sold it innocently as my first eBay sale and got scammed. I learned a lesson and it never happened again. =)

      The casio has a port on the side for midi out. You take a midi cable and hook it to whatever keyboard or rack mount sound module you like. There are even wireless midi send/receive modules so you can strut about while you play! :P :P :P

    Do you consider this as a toy or is it instrument?

    • @steamboat75043
      @steamboat75043  2 года назад

      i consider it a musical instrument, when hooked up to a good sound source. Since they put midi out on it then it is useful. It does react to wind pressure.

    Where can I find the fix for this instruments?

    • @steamboat75043
      @steamboat75043  3 года назад

      this one was repaired. I think I mentioned what it takes to repair it. There should be videos on how to fix it or in the forums describing what to fix. You open it up, find the board, unsolder one capacitor and put another one in. There are even holes to do so.

    J'ai un Casio Midi DH-100 en parfait état à vendre à Moutier en Suisse. Si quelqu'un est intéressé, me répondre ici.
    L'instrument, en plus de ses fonctionnalités midi, est intéressant car il permet de jouer en branchant un casque sans déranger les voisins ou de jouer sans application smartphone, étant autonome.

      vous ferez mieux d’utiliser d’abord l’anglais, puis de lister le klaxon sur ebay. Bonne chance.
