The best form of defence is offence. Be it on the school ground, or the world stage. Showing weakness is what causes wars in the first place. A bully will not attack a strong opponent. Look at China bullying Taiwan right now, and Russia invading Ukraine, the botched withdrawal from Alfghanistan - its because the west is showing weakness. If China attack Taiwan, all deaths and sufferimg from that war (and all past wars) are due to corruption and weakness - due to the so called "progressive left" - they virtue signal peace, and cause wars, then walk away from the mess they caused, gloating to themselves all the death and sufferimg that caused, they are trly the scum of humanity. The progressive left protested US to leave Vietnam - countless women and children killed in vietnam as a result - but the progressive left stay silent, as they always do, when responsibility falls on their shoulders. So you see, these aircraft are instruments of peace, flown by heroes, and the progressive left are the true instruments of war.
Mark Nicol twin seaters are used in training purposes but generally for new recruits. twin seaters are not used during acutal flight training (once you are stationed) or mission/practice flights
Why RAAF choose F/A-18 over F-16? The F-16 can fly faster, further, have better T/W Ratio and it's cheaper too. Granted, F/A-18 has better maneuverability and has higher takeoff weight, but that's a marginal advantage at best and not something that i think can justify 2-3 million difference in price.
lanunselatable Australia is mostly maritime environment, thus twin engine offers more reliability, and although F-16 has greater ferry range, F/A-18 has a greater combat radius. Additionally, F/A-18 can operate off shorter and more rugged runways due to its naval strength landing gear and low stall speed, and is better suited to precision strikes and interdiction against both land and especially sea targets than F-16. Finally, F/A-18 is nearly unbeatable in a slow turning dogfight, again due to its ability to maintain control beneath other aircrafts stall speeds. Aussie pilots regularly clean up during foreign exercises.
RAAF also has a history/tradition of taking planes designed for USN and adapting them to our particular mission necessities and operating environment, as the base designs tend to be already well-suited to the purpose. A twin-engine design was also likely chosen (at least in part) due to some prior criticism and issues with the Mirage.
I remember when they chose the '18 over the '16, there was a debate that the f16 was cheaper, so we could get more of them. But yes, as pointed out, the f18 has a more rugged under cairrage, and the ability to operate from a carrier. It keeps the options open.
Amazing display of flying by Wing Commander Woodland of 2OCU at Wings Over Illawarra this year.
End of an era... brings a bit of of a tear to the eye.

If these guys are 2OCU how come they aren't twin seaters?

Verloren Von Veigar i believe he was signalling take off to his partner, but looked like a sneeze
It could have been both a sneeze and signal at the same time
The head bump is for 'brakes off', bit late to be replying to the thread but If I see something I can answer I will :)
