@Jwpolk2 sadly The Dark Beyond the Stars does not appear to be in the public domain. We did narrate another of his stories a few months ago, The Night Shift which you will find here ruclips.net/video/hRbEtutARxY/видео.html
I think I remember seeing the Towering Inferno at the cinema in the UK. That was the era of disaster movies. You don’t get films with that many stars these days. An expat listening in Florida.
@jeremypearson6852 you are right there were several disaster movies at the time, I also remember Earthquake. You are right, there aren't many films with that many stars anymore. Thanks for commenting and thanks for listening!!
@gwendolyn2001 I find it fascinating too! So many authors got so much right about the future. I'm narrating a short story now and the writer talks about the United Nations. So I did some research and there not only wasn't a United Nations when the story was written but I cannot find any talk about the UN when the story was written. And just the fact that he calls it the United Nations is fascinating to me.
@@VintageSciFiAudiobooks I am blasé about some new technology because I read about it in the '70s in sci-fi novels. I was telling my 9 year old grandson about the Dick Tracy cartoon that had two way radios and video in wrist watches. My friends and I would say, "That will be true someday, but maybe not while we're still alive."
As mentioned, "The Power" was also written by Robinson and was an excellent novella. It was a first person account about a man with the gift of ESP and the curse of psychopathy that was a very chilling read, as he grew increasingly and dangerously obsessed by his power over others while wanting to keep his abilities secret. It was later made into a film starring George Hamilton.
Thanks for mentioning the movie Ivan. I didn't know about it until you mentioned it. It also starred Suzanne Pleshette. Did a search and found this clip, and now I have to find a way to watch the movie! Thanks Ivan. ruclips.net/video/VrvnmjlfONM/видео.html
@Stephen Jackson interesting point! I hadn't considered it while narrating this story. Since it was written in 1955, about 14 years before Apollo 8 would become the first manned spacecraft to go to the moon I wonder if most people thought it would take that long. Thanks for listening!
I appreciate your request. At the moment I do not believe Microcosmic God, By Theodore Sturgeon is in the public domain which means we cannot record it. However, I have a brilliant friend who can check to see if it is in the public domain and I'll let you know what he says! However, there are a few Theodore Sturgeon stories that we could record. Would a substitute be of interest to you? Thanks for your request and thanks for listening!!
@@VintageSciFiAudiobooks How about "And He Built a Crooked House" by Robert Heinlein? I read it as a teenager and it was one of my favorites, but, I don't know if any Heinlein would be public domain
Unfortunately "And He Built a Crooked House" does not appear to be in the public domain. Not much Heinlein to choose from. "The Elephant Circuit" and "Heil" are the only Robert Heinlein short stories I can find in the public domain at the moment. I find it interesting that "Heil" appeared under the pen name Lyle Monroe in Future Fantasia which was a fanzine created by 18 year old Ray Bradbury. There were only 4 issues of Future Fantasia and "Heil" appeared in the very last issue. Would you want me to narrate either of those two?

Robinson's The Dark Beyond the Stars is incredibly underrated. My favorite read in 2021.

@@VintageSciFiAudiobooks thank you for the reply! I will take a look at your other narration.
@Jwpolk2 you're welcome. I am recording another Frank M. Robinson story soon, "Two Weeks in August" Thanks for listening!!

It is interesting to see early writers' takes on space travel and compare to the reality of decades later.

It's not bad either 👍👍😉🕊️
The Towering Inferno also starred OJ SImpson... how could you forget him?
@xs10z Thanks for listening!! The mention of his name makes me sad on so many levels.
_The Towering Inferno_ also starred Jennifer Jones.
You are correct! According to IMDB it is her last credited appearance. Thanks for listening!!
😎👍
Thank you, thank you and thank you @goodwaterhikes 😃😃😃
I'm surprised that the author assumed that it would take 2 weeks for a ship to reach the moon. A considerable overestimation.

Robinson never worked at a large business. He made several mistakes.
Thanks for subscribing William and thanks for listening!
Shame Musk and Branson weren't around at the time to go up with him.
