It’s a relic of a bygone era of the pre-Adizero days. A time when boots were quite a bit heavier and bulkier than today’s standards. I never had any of the old school power boots aside from the T90 Shoot III for turf back in 2010 as a preteen. For FG I had an Umbro Specialli then an F30 takedown from the last F50 Tunit generation. I usually went for simple leather or a thinner synthetic. I always thought the rubber elements were cool tough, but I didn’t really go for them. Maybe boots by position marketing might have swayed my young impressionable mind. I was a very fast runner, and a heavy bulky boot was an antithesis to that mindset. These are a reminder that the T90 and boot like it were once pretty popular. Power boots as a concept kinda went away after the last Predator Instinct and Mizuno Wave Ignitus series were discontinued. And even before that the appeal to those silos had wained significantly. When the F50 Adizero first dropped the consumer wanted lighter and thinner, as a consequence power boots went away. Or morphed into lighter, thinner more flexible alternatives. Like the Hypervenom Phantom and the Puma EvoPower (super underrated boots btw). Which took over from the T90 Laser IV and PowerCat silos.
Kinda always felt the Phantom Venom was a missed opportunity from Nike. Imagine if they used the precoated yarn technology from the Flyknit Ultra to create those ridges that made up the shot shield. There wasn’t a lot of grip there. Adding in those yarns would’ve given the Phantom Venom a ton of extra grip without sacrificing the thin lightweight feel. It was a great boot as it was, and probably deserves more love. It just feel like Nike didn’t go as far as they could’ve gone, kinda off brand of them.

I wish boot manufacturers made more products like the T90 or the older Predators. I've always favored "tanky", padded boots, makes me feel more confident when going in for a tackle or going for a 50-50 loose ball. Plus, they all had a pretty wide fit, and as someone with a boat foot I struggle to find modern boots that fit properly right out of the box. The only boot in the past several years that gives me a similar vibe to old power boots is the Predator Accuracy.
Fair enough mate! The Accuracy definitely has an older school vibe to them - a really great boot in my opinion 🔥
I impulse bought an ic version of this off eBay a few months ago. Nostalgia was high and I did try to play in them and the sole separated after 2 hours of use. Still nice to have and look at
Dang! I'm sure you could get them repaired at a cobbler - sometimes they'll be able to glue and stitch the upper back on so there's no issues with separation

Bro, they were my go to boots when I play right back. It the stiff soleplates allowed me to boot the ball upfield with power and precision. I'd enjoyed playing in them so much I had all the colorways, both synthetics and leather (I preferred) as well as the WC Elite version. Man they were special and I will take them every time when I get into a mean tackle. I got up every time while the other guy was down in pain! Best friend for a defender.

@@NoahCavanaugh just a suggestion - there are fans out there that might have some interesting collection they wouldn't mind you borrowing for reviews. I've got some really interesting Puma (with tattoos graphics), the original Accelerator, Umbro (before Nike destroys them), Pele and Pantafola d'Oro that has José Mourinho face printed on it! You can create a "Fan Archive" series and old boot fans like myself would love to watch. None of these obsession with light weight and boots that choke your feet to death.

Nike Total 90 III Laser’s are the best boot’s ever made, protected your foot and built to crush shots. I had them in red (as worn by rooney, scholes, rio), and bought multiple pairs before finally destroying them all. Throw a modern soleplate on their and you got a killer modern boot.
