  • Welcome to Shop Talk! This series covers all of the happenings inside the X Overland Shop (or hangar). With so many truck builds to maintain, its never a dull moment. In this first episode, Tanner dives into replacing the rear leaf pack on the X Overland Toyota Tacoma as well as swaps out the transfer case fluid. There is also a mysterious squeak he hopes to find the root issue for but its not what he suspected it was. We hope you enjoy these 'quick bite' episodes and learn a thing or two from Tanner's quick tips. Thanks for watching and please subscribe! #xoverland #shoptalk #truckbuilds

      Would love to see you dive deep on payload, how to increase it, and the legal aspects of it! I know in Australia you can get a certified GVWR upgrade, not sure about in the USA though.

      How much extra weight have you put onto the Tacoma? I'm sure the bumpers, sliders, skid plates, habitat, roof rack, and goose gear battery boxes inside have all added a LOT of weight.

    Yay! Finally building up my 2018 Tacoma as well! Much more of a modest/lighter weight build, but will see how far I can take it until needing next level!

    I love any video having to do with X3 Meridian! She's the reason I bought my own 2018 Tacoma and have been building it up to be a car camper / overlander. I recently installed the Icon RXT leaf pack (with the add-a-leaf) because I have a constant payload of 550lbs. Expedition loadout weight, not including myself, is north of 750lbs. Before the installation on an empty truck, I lost 2 inches of clearance and now I've gained an additional inch over stock ride height :) I haven't yet measured ride height with the new springs and a full expedition loadout

    I gave my OME leafs away, imo they're a bandaid fix, especially for a build that heavy. Look at ATS Springs, I'm currently running a 3" lift spring with 600lb extra capacity in a 5 leaf pack, and it's better than the Dakars in every way. No squeek, actually holds up to the extra weight

    How many miles does the taco have on it now? It would be interesting to hear how many miles you are able to get on your various aftermarket suspension components before the need rebuilt or replaced.

    No concern on the transfer case fluid not being to spec? Toyota says to use Toyota OE 75W LF fluid. Not sure exactly what is special about the T-case to require this very pricey oil but curious your opinion since you guys are tight with Toyota.

    Nice! This is OG XO, sans Jeff of course. Do you have the Taco lean still? I’ve got the Stage 6 Icon too with the Icon RXT leaf pack and my drivers side sits 3/4 to 1” lower, even when I don’t have a full tank of gas.

    • @GhostRyder2008
      @GhostRyder2008 3 года назад

      If your shocks (if you're talking about the front) are adjusted to match the ride height of the other side, then you gotta balance out the weight. I just put on the Icon RXT leaf pack on my 2018 Tacoma and my rear fenders are perfectly even because I keep more gear (approx. 50 pounds) on the passenger side of the truck whenever possible. Then again, is the Taco Lean really a problem besides a little bit of reduced clearance? I doubt most people are really gonna see that little of a difference

    Are air bags just a different way to solve the same issue? If so are more leafs a better option? Great video

    • @GhostRyder2008
      @GhostRyder2008 3 года назад +2

      Air bags are great if your weight is changing frequently like when towing or using the truck to carry heavy things like concrete mix pallets. These trucks don't change a whole lot once they're built out so airbags aren't as necessary. Also airbags don't allow as much suspension travel which can be critical for safe offroading. Once you get your truck built out, you just need to dial in the right leaf springs and you're generally good to go.
