I had the idea that Brian was discovered in youth, throwing out success after success, just from looking at his confident work. So nice to see him as a humble, working artist!
As long as you enjoy what you're doing it's keeping you level .. late '60s for me Chicago.. the draft the war.. just keep going to school.. downtown Chicago had a great art
This was a gift.
Just viewed this older vid, one of your best interviews Eric. And very good advice for both painting and a disciplined and mature approach to being an artist in the interview. Brian is a nice guy and great painter. I would take workshops with him and hope he would come to beautiful southern AZ to do one for our plein air club, in Tucson; he has much to offer in his approach to painting, both technique and the design of a good composition.
He reminds me of a great workshop teacher I had in Lake Tahoe area, in the 90's, for several consecutive years, as he came to CA to paint in the Sierra Nevada, with friends, and teach. He was from Mass. too, Rockport, and was in the tradition of the greats of that "school" years ago, like Hibbard and Gruppe, whom he often told amusing stories about. He had some good sayings too, like when people did not put out enough paint on their palettes or were "stingy" with it on their canvas or panel. He would say: "Forcrissakes, Use Some Paint!! They'll make more!" LOL. But he was talking more about the amount of paint in each hue you had, and not that you needed to buy any more pigments. I do like, as Brian said, a palette of the 3 primaries and the 3 secondaries, and, of course, white. I use that for all subjects, but mostly for landscapes. With that you can make Any color you need, and they will Harmonize well!!
Cheers from beautiful and highly paintable Oro Valley, AZ. : )
Great comment, Thanks. He is good.
@@artschoollive Yes, Artist Profiles have several of his works on YT to view, worth looking at, mostly seascapes, of which he is a specialist, but many other "interior" landscape scenes too!
Do you add gesso to the purchased canvas? Or just jump right in with the warm undertone? It was helpful to see the size of your brushes!
Thank you for a great video, inspiring and informative. I liked your simplifying approach and colours. I
I am in awe of that palette!
Thank you! This was wonderful. Big fan.
I live in Pembrokeshire in Wales Brian , no need to come. You , with your skills should try Wales coatline. Hidden gems for 100 miles. Cornwall ? Crowded and been done to death.
10000 hours divided by 2 is 5000 paintings. Don't quit!
That canvas sounds pretty rough there. Is that the canvas or the gesso layer ?
What brand of brushes?
