Madison was a guest speaker at a virtual meeting I had to attend for work in late 2020. He Zoom’d into the meeting from a moving car NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT, apparently having learned nothing from his accident.
Another one of Cawthorn's lies that wasn't mentioned in the video: During his 2020 campaign, Cawthorn claimed that he was training to compete in the 2020 Paralympic Games as a wheelchair racer. Turns out he was only competing in a handful of amateur races. That's basically of the equivalent of claiming to be training for the NBA when you're actually just playing in your local basketball league. Paralympians are elite-level professional athletes. Cawthorn claiming to be a Paralympic-level athlete seriously cheapens the immense talent and incredibly hard work of actual Paralympians. If you want to learn about Cawthorn's Paralympic lie, I highly recommend the article "The Ignominious Deceits of Congressman Cawthorn" by Sara Luterman.
Thank you! He needs to be called out for all of this. Makes me sick. Him lying about his friend leaving him for dead in that car crash really angered me.. he has used being paralyzed in that wreck to profit and lie..
I can attest to the amount of blood, sweat, tears (and blisters) endured by athletes while training for the Paralympic Games. My goddaughter lived with me while training for 2 sets of Paralympic Games. The amount of dedication and grit she showed was amazing. She was also writing her Master’s thesis at the same time. She played wheelchair basketball in both the Beijing and London Paralympics. No medals but she has her PhD. Proud Auntie.
as a disabled person, I hate inspiration porn, and I'm pretty sure most disabled people would agree with me. Most of us hate it when able bodied people use us to feel good about themselves, and we are not obligated to be inspirational just because " X has this disability and they are still successful". To see a disabled person deliberately make such blatant inspiration porn makes me kinda nauseous.
Unlike Tammy Duckworth, Dole, McCain, and other disabled leaders who did not need to tap into inspo porn, this jackass practically reinvented the genre. I'll never forget the 2015 RNC convention when this ass thought he was owning Kapernick by having two buddies hoist him out of his wheelchair, lock his braces and give him a walker so he could "stand for the flag." It was an "if I can stand, anyone can stand" moment. So I guess disabled folks like me who can't stand are just unpatriotic pieces of shit to him.
As a disabled person I do want to point out the clear inspiration porn of that whole "this country for which I stand" bit. It's something that is so soul crushing to see everytime.
"Retweeting his son's twitter tweet" has the same energy as "The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison."
I literally burst into tears at the end of this video when you said “if that means you take a shower for the first time in three days or make yourself a healthy breakfast” - thank you for mentioning that in your video🙏 I come here for the community and supportive feel too, not just the incredible commentaries ❤️
Man, that hit me hard too. I'm in my late 30s and have a lot of shame about my level of functioning due to pretty severe depression and only-just-diagnosed complex ADHD (I'm in therapy, don't worry) - I live with my parents right now and getting dressed rather than spending all day in my PJs is a crowning achievement for me. The whole "reframe your goals" thing is life-changing, even if I haven't defeated the shame just yet (I'm a work in progress!) Hope you are doing well :)
I’m a disabled adult, and I cannot overstate how much this guy bothers me. The fact that he relies on inspiration porn to prop up his privilege and has actively worked to pass laws to roll back the achievements of the disability rights movement-I just can’t.
Rolling back disability rights is probably the most egregious way he could've stabbed anybody in the back. Sadly, I don't know what his policy proposals and voting record looked like. Which bills and laws fitting that profile can you think of?
So this immature child has been able to have that effect on disabled people already, who wote for the ideas of this guy? I mean he sounds like total immature teenager who has to constantly lie because of low confidence and can't keep his pants on immidiatly when he sees a girl. I don't understand what adult would listen to this guy, even if you shate same politics.
I’m in there with you, man. Inspiration porn perpetuates stereotypes and infantilizes people of all ages who have disabilities, whether obvious or not.
And ya know what? That Cawthorn boy is definitely capable of invoking his disability to get around the law. For example, if he was on the verge of getting into a fist fight, he’s chickenshit enough to tell his opponent that hitting a disabled person can make a simple assault charge into a felony (that’s Texas law for what it’s worth).
Fully had an out of body experience last fall seeing Maddy at our local apple festival. He was wearing a crisp white Oxford with AT LEAST the top four buttons open. Old men were tripping over themselves, shaking his hand and thanking him for protecting their gun ownership. Western North Carolina is a trip. I promise there’s folks around here dedicated to progressive causes ❤️ happy to have y’all back.
I’m from Hendersonville too. My best friend babysat him as a kid and refused to do it ever again. He was a hellion and smacked her butt at like 6. She also said his dad came off pretty creepy and made her nervous. Our county IS actually purple. It’s the other counties in the district that are red.
I’m from the Charlotte area and my brother went to unc-Asheville. There are wonderful people in Asheville 🥹 Western Nc, like you said can definitely be a mixed bag
@@uhohiateasbestos1535 it’s almost like there are very few people on the middle of the political spectrum anymore (when there used to be). Most people seem to be pretty far left wing (like me) or Alt Rt. It wasn’t like that before Trump. People who were reasonable and more moderately Republican have changed a lot. I blame the cult of personality with Trump and Fox News.
I think Madison Cawthorn is actually great for disability representation. He shows that disabled people are not these perfect angels come to teach a lesson. In fact, sometimes, a disabled person can actually be a really bad person.
I think Abbott is a perfect example of why this sort of thing is bad, actually. Because if you're not a complete freak like Cawthorn turns out to be, then you'll probably get away with being the most hypocritical asshat possible, as most of us able-bodied people are generally too uncomfortable to look too closely at anyone in a wheelchair, so people just gloss over Abbott's incredibly obvious bullshit and pretend he's a decent guy. Which he very much is not.
Oscar Pistorius is a murderer and turd in human form. Abbott was in mid-twenties paralyzed by a falling tree in a swanky neighborhood, which had a HOA that was supposed to keep the trees trimmed. He sued and got like $12M and is still receiving payments from his structured settlement. When he was AG, he strenuously supported so called tort reform that capped damages at around $500K - he’s already got his but everyone else can put up or shut up because he’s in it to gain a national reputation among the batshit maga mob. Which he has, but he’s proven himself to be pretty batshit himself which doesn’t set well in more civilized areas of the country. 😂
I see your point. However, as someone who suffers from multiple disabilities my entire life, this kind of rhetoric often causes enough harm as it is. Yes, not every disabled person is a good person but I am concerned that speaking about disabled individuals in this manner does harm to disability rights. It allows people who are already bigoted against disabled people to be even more bigoted against a marginalized group of people.
You and Jen bring a unique, intelligent channel to the RUclips table. In these dark times, with the Christian Right pushing a dark agenda, we desperately need your shining light to help people fight them off.
I had to do a double take when he said to raise our sons to be “monsters.” I’m a mom of two boys. No fucking way will my boys grow up to be monsters. Over my dead body!
@@rogerkeleshian2215 one assumes he meant to raise them to be rapey creeps like Trump, Kavanaugh and himself. “Real men” who treat women like second class citizens and are chock full of toxic masculinity. It’s a major talking point of the GOP these days that women are turning men into weaklings with low testosterone who need to suntan their balls (according to Madison’s fellow white supremacist shithead Tucker Carlson). Demonizing women helps when you want to take away our rights.
You know how it goes with these things. We think we're finally getting diversity and representation and they hand us a talking pile of garbage instead.
Hearing him tell mothers to raise young men to be monsters, my blood immediately boiled. My brother went to the army after high school to pay his bills and literally came back one of these kinds of people. It's completely heartbreaking to see such a spoiled little monster to want to breed more men like this when my brother just devastated and insulted my mom to no end because of his ego and belief that it's his right to be a loud, heartless bastard.
As some one who was harmed for life by religious homeschooling, I think it's more than fine to point out the academic inadequacies of a religious homeschool education. As a matter of fact, please continue to do so- the more awareness is spread on the subject, the more chance there is of saving people from what I went through.
I'm paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury, much like Cawthorn, but mine is from fucked up heart surgery. All of the stories of how people became paralyzed are interesting and tragic WITHOUT lying!!! I live in a barrier free apartment complex for people with physical disabilities and I've found in my experience with the men there and with boys with disabilities I grew up with that men with disabilities are always trying to prove how manly they are. It's very sad, though understandable, so Cawthorn didn't surprise me much. He wasn't a good representative of handicapped people though. I'm happy to see people in wheelchairs with chronic pain make it, as it shows me what I may be able to accomplish, BUT handicapped people shouldn't get a pass to be horrible representatives. Being outwardly cis-het white Christian male is what got Cawthorn elected and he wasted the opportunity to help his fellow Americans with disabilities out while taking FULL advantage of being an inspiration!! That's one of the things I hate about being handicapped, I seem to automatically be an inspiration without really having worked for it, and when people take advantage of that, it REALLY pisses me off!!!
He and his types of homeschoolers are why I and my son have to follow up, “We homeschooled,” with “but not like that. We’re not religious and actually used real history, science, and the world as our school.” As a homeschooler in NC, I lost track of the groups we were shunned from because my son is an atheist and I’m a pagan.
Holy cats. Are you even allowed to be a pagan in NC? I'm in Utah and find it really awkward & sometimes a bit scary to just wear my pentagram out in public (but I do it anyway). And we're supposed to be the 'liberals of the conservative world' or somesuch shit. It also makes me miss Oregon, where you can find a pagan in every farmer's market and occult section of Powell's bookstore.
One thing I love so much about James is that he’s honest when these people manage to do something that is moving or inspirational. The fact he’s willing to admit those things lends him so much empathy and credibility that I really appreciate from discussions like this. Another wonderful KJV episode of Fundie Fridays
Ok, James, the Casetify commercial was hilarious. Your videos are clever and well researched. Both you and Jen have great senses of humor. Thanks for all of the work you both do.
So funny how you ended this! Your Marjorie Taylor Green video actually convinced me to run for Congress, here in Utah! I missed the deadline to file this year but I'm preparing for 2024! My slogan is "Why Not Me?"
I can't even imagine having a traumatic car accident happen to me, much less having the passenger whom I called a friend, publicly saying I left them to DIE. ?!?
Also, it’s on no civilian to attempt a car rescue! No one is required to risk their life and then be shamed for not wanting to risk their own life. I could not believe he said that.
@@shainablinn9776 With all the network TV news stories about random citizens rescuing someone from mortal peril, it can be easy to forget when some tasks are best left to professionals.
I went to Switzerland with his parents. My dad and his dad work for the same company. They were exhausting and snobby, but they loved to talk about Madison and how proud they were of him.
I can't really see what Cawthorn has going for him besides his '006-born appearance. He looked like a 14 y.o. when I first heard earlier in '020 that he was running for congress. I knew he had nothing to offer given the DC establishment and the overt colorbashing in the party he was running as, but I didn't imagine he would've sexually harassed so many women, venerated the Nazi Empire using the Eagle's Nest as a proxy, or most importantly, likely stabbed his own disabilities demographic in the back with his policy record.
As a former homeschooled kid myself, I'm forever grateful that my mom was already an experienced teacher, recognized the importance of socializing, and never tolerated the idea that a man could tell her what to do. I absolutely have complaints with many things in the religious homeschool movement but, in my case, it could have been so much worse. Madison is an excellent example of willful ignorance and privilege. Also, extremely happy to have you guys back on RUclips!!
Same here. My mom had a degree in Special Ed which was extremely helpful since I struggled with add and a social disability. I definitely think the homeschool environment was way better for my style of learning, and i got more free time for hobbies and extra-curriculars
One of my favorite memories was working the front desk of our local ymca here in Asheville when Madison was escorted out by security for harassing female staff 😍
@Sarah Kane Wow, how long ago was that? My (crazy QAnon) mom thinks any/all allegations against Cawthorn have to be lies because "he's in a wheelchair!" I didn't have the heart to tell her that people who use wheelchairs still have sex drives (being one myself), nor that some forms of sexual assault don't require a penis (since she seemed to assume his was out of commission). Ugh.
I really appreciate how you handled his accident and referencing his brain injury. My cousin’s husband suffered a TBI a few years back and despite making what would be considered a miraculous recovery, he still has many issues he didn’t have before and likely always will. Tied into that, the workman’s comp place is trying to pressure them into a lowball settlement currently because they don’t want to keep him covered for the rest of his life despite how much potential there is for future issues with the severity of his initial injury. The doctor the workman’s comp sent him to even had the nerve to say his short term memory issues are just “normal” despite him being only 32 and not having said issues before the accident to try to justify the lowball settlement. In short, TBI is serious and no one, not even Madison, should be mocked for it, and our healthcare system, and everything attached to it in any way, is so very broken in this country it’s ridiculous.
History lesson: people like Madison would have been first in line for the Final Solution. Cognitive Dissonance and questionable education are one hell of a terrifying combination 😳
People like this guy are why I'm so against homeschooling, kids have no chance to develope their own personality and views, just what their parents want.
What I really love about you guys is that when you write your videos you tend to not take cheap shots and low blows towards the subjects of the videos and you instead focus on the moral failings of their character and their actions which are completely within their own control. You guys still manage to see the humanity in the individual in spite of their moral and ethical failings. The high road is taken while still dunking on them with well-deserved criticism. What really touched me was your refusal to make any cheap or mean-spirited jokes about his paralysis as well as praising the fact that he was able to get his insurance to work with him on his medical bills. It's just really nice to see.
"during her son's wedding, she appears to be excited." is the most robotic thing i've heard in a while, i couldn't help but snort (also: welcome back!! i've missed u guys
And, given that Cawthorn looks like he was born in '006 (resembled a 14 y.o. in '020), I'm not very confident the rest of the GOP had good intentions for him either.
So glad that y'all won the copyright battle! As a blind person, I'm always saddened when I see fellow disabled people fighting AGAINST universal healthcare. It really goes to show how big of an influence a financially privileged life can have on a person's moral compass. Most disabled people don't have Cawthorn's financial safety net, & so now he's chosen a path lined with people who have no respect for disabled lives.
I started homeschool my first year of highschool due to a chronic illness. It is insanely difficult to find secular curriculum. Homeschools great but crazy religious people have ruined how people veiw kids who were homeschooled.
Yeah. I was homeschooled because the US school system sucks (bullying, abuse from teachers, school shootings, abuse of disabled kids, and poor quality education), and my parents didn’t want me to face that kind of trauma. It’s frustrating that most homeschool resources are religious and homeschooling is so often associated with fundamentalism, because it’s honestly a necessary alternative to a failed school system. There needs to be more homeschooling resources that are both secular and accessible for people who are dealing with poverty.
Now that Fundie Fridays is officially back up and running I would love to see a James video breaking down the HSLDA! It is THE nexus between fundamentalism, homeschooling, and politics, and it just gets more fucked up from there.
As a disabled person who uses a wheelchair, I have been waiting for your take on this guy because I know you won't let us down with ableist bullshit. Thank you.
I'm not surprised. Now it's a matter of whether people along North Carolina's border with Tennessee voted for him because they thought he'd advance jingoistic, theocratic, and enbyphobic causes, or just because he looked like a 14 year old youth back in '020.
Whenever I hear Cawthorn, I get literal flashbacks to my homeschooled past. He and I are less than a year apart, and I was taught to think and speak exactly like he does. Only difference between us is that (1) I was raised Catholic (albeit in the Bible Belt surrounded by evangelicals) so my parents sent me to the Catholic equivalent of Patrick Henry instead; (2) I am the exact opposite of a straight WASP man, aka an LGBT+ Hispanic female; and (3) eventually I said "fuck it" and escaped those circles before they could hurt/subordinate me any more than they already did. Thanks to the homeschool movement, I'll be carrying a giant load of emotional baggage with me for the rest of my life, along with a joke of a propaganda-heavy education that I will forever be struggling to make up for. I feel like an alien among my peers, in my own hometown, and I will never be as smart or as equipped for the real world as those who learned factual information growing up. Sorry, no words can begin to describe the vitriol I feel when I think of Cawthorn and the circles that support him. Thank you for all your hard work. I was *so* happy to hear your channel was back in business. If I ever start a channel of my own, I'd love to collab.
I had an argument with some people over homeschooling. They wanted to claim they had never heard of a situation like yours(inadequate education, emotionally damaging, ill prepared socially, etc.), instead claiming that they, along with every other person they had ever knew or heard about all had magical, wonderful, socialized, Masters level knowledge by their sophomore year. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but you get the idea. My husband's ex did their son's school work for him. He should have been on at least a 7th grade level and you almost couldn't read anything he wrote due to horrendous penmanship and even worse spelling. This wasn't the only homeschooling that was a complete and total failure that I personally know of either. I'm sure there are successful situations, but not as many as some would like to have people believe. At least you are wise enough to know that it should have been a much more positive experience and are actively correcting the areas you were slighted. Congrats on getting on with a happy life!
@@randibgood They probably never heard of situations like mine because (1) they surround themselves with fellow homeschoolers who refuse to acknowledge anything is wrong with how they do things, regardless of how bad it really is; and/or (2) if they hear stories like mine they probably chalk it up to "that's not real homeschooling" or "just an exaggeration" or a "cherry-picked example" to "justify an attack on parental rights." Having been vocal about this stuff for a while now, I've heard all sorts of sh!t from apologists who refuse to listen or claim that I'm just "projecting my bad experience onto others" or that "you're ignoring how bad public schools are," etc. You are absolutely correct, and sadly stories like that are anything but surprising to me. Like with any education system, everything depends on the amount of time, financial resources (privilege?) the parents have to dedicate to what their children need and most importantly a commitment to making sure their kids get a proper, *factual* education that will prepare them for the real world. I will say this until I'm blue in the face: you can never adequately prepare your children for the real world in isolation from it. When you lock them away from it, you do a grave disservice to them and their future ability to cope with life. Thanks for your support.
@@didograce3531 wow, in spite of the weaknesses of your homeschooling, you're very wise. You'll catch up academically, or maybe you have already. Most won't, though.
Ah, Madison Cawthorn is a good representation of GenZ _conservatives._ I've met plenty of them around campus (I live in a university town). GenZ progressives and leftists? Y'all are awesome and have an energy and drive I wish I had.
Thanks! For the compliment we have no choice but to be mega enthu cuz even if we're enthu its obviously not enough, but thanks for the genz lefty praise!! Older trailblazers are cool too!!
@@dominicfucinari1942 They essentially resemble the conservatives from the 60s - the “Goldwater Conservatives.” They weren’t religious, were pro gay rights, and against government mandated pregnancies. They were simply anti government intervention
I wouldn’t be too impressed with his high school. The school caters to homeschoolers in the whole state, it’s not completely uncommon to have an online graduation. Also the state places zero requirements for homeschoolers because they are considered “private schools” and each “private school” can decide for themselves how many credits have to be completed in order to graduate and each “school” can issue their own diploma. None of it is accredited by licensed teachers.
@@yooperskeptic Yes! This is why it's so important to advocate for a national standard for child education. Each state has its own regulations on homeschoolers. Many states will drop tracking kids education progression and parents have to forfeit their/their kids rights to public school education. Not all parents who homeschool are bad. Some parents have kids with special needs and their public school system is unable/unwilling to meet their needs. Others have better accessibility to provide their kids with a quality education at home. But many use it to brainwash and or abuse their kids. Providing your kids with subpar education that hinders their ability to develop and progress into independent adults should be considered child neglect.
Your "presumptuous statement" bit killed me! On NYE 2020, I said that 2021 had to be better..... spinal injury, separation of my 11 year marriage. And then an eviction with my 9 year old daughter, but I still said on NYE going into 2022, well it can't get worse..... it did. Don't tempt fate.

KING JAMES!! Oh man, this was way too good. Not only extremely funny, but also deeply rooted in empathy and ethics, as always... I respect and appreciate y'all's work so so much (and I LOVED the call to action at the end... you've definitely gotten me thinking). So happy to see you back on here. Happy weekend to you and Jen and to my fellow Jennonites!!
Oh, also, I want to say how much I appreciate your dedication to the subtitles. I'm not hearing impaired at all, but it is very difficult for me to focus on content without subtitles. My brain wanders without the anchor. It's nice when the subtitles aren't garbled.
I want to repeat what others have said here and say good on you for addressing inconsistencies in Madison’s story and pointing out the parts of his character that make him a bad person and not ragging on the parts that he cannot control like the issues with his injury. On top of that I want to say thank you for including a clip from Scrubs
Speaking of Generation Z, as a kid who looks like he was born in the middle of the 00-Agents' Decade when I'm clean-shaven and wash my hair, I'd say Cawthorn and his '006-born appearance give me a bad name.
You and Jenn are probably my favorite people on youtube. Wholesome, educated, intelligent, hilarious, down to earth, compassionate, and every other positive adjective…lol. Keep it up
Hey James! Love the video. Just a quick thing in terms of semantics, using the phrase "Judeo-Christian" (around 41:50) is absolutely falling into a right winger trap--there's no such thing as Judeo-Christian values here, it's just Christian. The term is a dog whistle to try to include conservative Jews in American conservative politics/moral judgements while excluding Muslims. A better way to phrase what you said is just American Christian exceptionalism!
So Judeo-Christian comes from the fact that the basics of our religion are shared. The first 5 books of what Christians call the O.T. the Jewish people call the Tanakh.....You automatically consider Christianity hateful, biased etc, But there are many Christian churches that accept gay/lesbian people. There are many with pride flags, and even many pastors that marry and celebrate same sex marriage. Not sure of any Synangoges that do this. I don 't know of any Rabbi's who perform this. Maybe they exist? But certainly not Orthodox, which would be the equivalent of Fundie, is there anyone with this Judaic background accepting these belief? Why do you never talk about this?
So glad you guys are around! Your channel is one of my little islands of sanity in all this... stuff. The montage of headlines + James' face at the beginning is pure gold.
My favorite thing about the Madison Cawthorn RNC speech is that he denounced "emotion-based voting" moments prior to alluding to the pledge of allegiance while standing up from his wheelchair. Lol That is one of my favorite political campaign moments of all time and I never get a chance to bring it up, so thank God that Fundie Fridays is still alive and well.
Interestingly during his rousing finishing move, Madison forgot “indivisible” after “one nation under god. “ This public school kid knows a bad pledge when he hears one. I suppose he didn’t get enough practice as a home schooler or… being divisible is the main driver of his political career
He did say "under god" but yes, butchered the rest of it! And we said it too.. every day before we sat down to study. And yes, it's super weird when there's only three of you there haha
“The Stone Cold dress shirt doesn’t just show up” 💀💀💀 We’re not worthy 🙌 King James, as always thank you for this magnificent deep dive into another corrupt republican politician. Your respect for the subjects you cover while simultaneously trashing them for what they deserve to be trashed for (ie acknowledging and being empathetic to this d-bag’s disability in a respectful way while also calling him out on his endless bullshit) is truly inspiring and worthy of emulation. We should all remember the nuance and remember that not everything is so black and white. We can have disdain for someone who deserves it while also being respectful. The two are not mutually exclusive. Thanks again. You’re an inspiration brother!
I just recently graduated college with a degree in Political Science and my end goal has always been to run for office, so your spiel at the end of the video about running for office was really encouraging and has got me so charged up. Thanks for the wonderful video James!
Growing up with disabled parents, Madison reminded me of my malignant, narcissistic father, who used his disability like a weapon. My sperm donor was also a garbage human and I was thrilled when Madison was voted out. I really like your videos, they are informative, warm-hearted and well-researched. The fact that you go out of your way to find positives while discussing despicable people is very inspirational. Thank you! I know I am late to the party, but I am enjoying the joint content,
All hail King James, and all glory to Reverend Fundie! I'm so glad that this space of honesty, that I know has helped so many folks in their deconstruction, is still available!

It still baffles me how RUclips allows a creators to use false flagging while instead of punishment they are rewarded by in most cases earning all the ad revenue. This has to be stopped. I love listening to you break all this down. When I was a teen and was forced into a grade 10 civics class to learn about (canadian) politics, I thought it was the most boring thing in the world. You and others like you teach about this in ways that make it not just interesting, but essential. And i know that as a Canadian living in Canada, I won't be voting in your elections, but even still, this pushes me to learn more about my local government of every level. So you might not know why people like it, but I want to ask you to please not stop. 🥰
Dude… this video. Standing ovation. Amazing pep talk. If I could approach my goals and challenges with half as much confidence as Madison approached his run for congress, I’m pretty sure I could accomplish anything I wanted. I live in a SUPER red, rural area - just last week i saw a gaggle of middle aged men standing on the sidewalk at our towns main intersection (also the only intersection) with a table set up and signs protesting abortion still being legal in my state after Roe was overturned. There’s thin blue line flags all over the place, people hang them in the side of their houses - it’s nuts. But I also know there’s other young working class people here and that there’s no way they’re all gung ho conservative republicans- there’s gotta be more leftists than just me. Anyway, one day I might just run for some kind of political office. Not today. I’m only 28, and unlike Madison, I would like to continue being young and dumb for a bit longer while NOT holding a position in congress. Just my personal preference. I’ll think about it again once I hit 35. Also, I was born in 1993, and I’m definitely 100% a millennial, when is the cutoff?? Am I just on the cusp or something? I spent my adolescent years hearing boomers go “you millennials don’t wanna work! millennials are ruining everything! no more avo toast = enough saved for a whole house!!!!” but nowadays people sometimes refer to me as gen Z, wtf is going on? Middle parts don’t look good on me, I don’t know how to use TikTok & i was a MySpace famous scene queen.. millennial trifecta
You should check out the organization Run for Something! They work with young progressives to run for office everywhere in the country. (Unrelated: the millennial/Gen Z cutoff is closer to 1997, so unfortunately I think Madison's just a young millennial.)
I was born in 1996 and according to some sources I’m a millennial and others say I’m gen z. So I think 96’ is the cusp. I would say 93’ is a young millennial! The thing about generations is that it’s not a super official thing just another useless label humans made up starting with the baby boomer generation. I’m pretty sure before that we didn’t define and name generations.
@@emilypetrie thanks so much for the recommendation, I will definitely be looking into them! i think getting more working class leftists, specifically millennials and gen z who essentially had the rug pulled out from under us as far as the whole “work hard enough and you can accomplish anything & be successful!” messaging that we all received and genuinely believed in (I did, at least.) realizing that being able to save enough to buy a home someday is practically impossible in the current economic climate, which shows no signs of changing, is something so many of us have had to reconcile and it’s painful to do so - I know I feel betrayed by our government and society. I know too many people who have been working their butts off, staying at one job for years on end, even taking on new roles and responsibilities over time, only to be “rewarded” with whatever their states annual mandatory wage increases are (never enough, rarely more than $1 ime). No benefits, no PTO, nothing… Meanwhile, they’ve generated literally millions, if not billions, In profits over the years. It’s infuriating. There is NO SUCH THING as unskilled labor. I want the Walmart cashier to be able to afford housing, and the people flipping burgers all, the janitors, all of them deserve to be paid what they are worthy of, and we are all worthy of shelter, food, and the ability to afford to get our basic needs met. Sorry, I get worked up over the rampant injustices and class division in this country - which is exactly what I think we need in our government these days. Thanks again for the organization rec, who knows.. maybe I’ll become a congresswoman sooner than initially anticipated 😅
*David Madison Cawthorn* says men are weak & not manly enough because that's how he feels about himself and is only projecting. *150 former students signed a letter accusing him of being a sexual predator,* due to his behavior, prior to his car accident, which his friend said he also lied about.
I've been having the absolute worst day possible today and I'm just so happy to see you guys back up and running 🥰 A groundhog dug a hole under my fence that I thought was too small for my dog to get thru, but no I was wrong and I ran around the block screaming "DAISY!! DAISY!!" like a crazy person while squeaking a toy in one hand and shaking a bag of treats in the other. I got her home back safe and sound, but then my neighbor told me that huge 15ft long branch on the ground was from the dying tree next to my house that fell down while I was away at work yesterday. So I'm having a tree service guy come out tomorrow for an estimate to tear down that decaying tree before it falls and flattens my house. Terrified to find out what that bill is gonna be 😰 Sorry for dumping my horror story in your comments, it's been a real heck of a day and I needed some air. Again so excited you guys got thru that whole strikes mess!!! Take this as my comment for the algorithm, hoping you guys get back from this stronger than ever!!!!
Oh that sounds so stressful! I'm really glad you got her back home safe and sound. ♥ Hopefully the estimate isn't as bad as you fear and you can get everything worked out without too much of a hit to your wallet.
So glad you found Daisy! And if you see this in time, and are able to pay cash for the tree service, they will usually cut a decent amount from the estimate. Just wait until they give you their price and then ask "what if I was able to pay cash?"

I also would love for the world to be more accessible. Hell, I fight for it every single day, but the way in which Cawthorn uses his disability drives me bonkers because it does all of the rest of us with mobility disabilities absolutely crazy. Also, how did I miss that you and Jen got engaged?!
Jen and James, it would mean THE WORLD to me if you considered doing a video about Patrick Henry College (and the HSLDA tied into one?). I was a teen camper there 4 summers in a row and nearly applied to attend college there.

This episode hit in a way that's hard for me to put into words. For some context: I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user that's been having to try and desperately fight my insurance and doctors to get the chair I actually need. It took me about a year to even get prescribed one and when I did get one a few months ago, it was one not at all suited to my needs that fails to serve the purpose I need it to. Basically, it's a chore to try and move around indoors with and literally impossible for me to move outside in. I need a wheelchair to get around my college campus once I transfer in the fall. It was only yesterday that I got in with a neurologist (even though I made the appointment in February), who listened to me and agreed to put in a new prescription. So on one hand, I'm thrilled to hear a story about somebody actually winning against their insurance company because they fucking hate disabled people. It's also comforting to see somebody in a wheelchair make it as far as he did. (I also really appreciate how James addressed the topic, it was far more comforting than anything Madison ever did). Honestly, I just get comforted seeing other wheelchair users, in the media or in person, because some of my family members have been really shitty about me needing one. But it's so disappointing that somebody as horrible as Madison was the one to provide this representation and success story (to whatever small degree). I wish it could have been somebody else
Not even done yet and can't tell you how much I've enjoyed this AND what an absolutely great job you did. THANKS! and so happy you got the channel back!
Madison was a guest speaker at a virtual meeting I had to attend for work in late 2020. He Zoom’d into the meeting from a moving car NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT, apparently having learned nothing from his accident.

I just can't imagine going through such a traumatic car crash, saving your friend from a car fire only to have him later claim that you ran away
Another one of Cawthorn's lies that wasn't mentioned in the video:
During his 2020 campaign, Cawthorn claimed that he was training to compete in the 2020 Paralympic Games as a wheelchair racer.
How can anyone vote for a person who comes with such idiotic and obvious lies? He sounds like a child.
as a disabled person, I hate inspiration porn, and I'm pretty sure most disabled people would agree with me.
Wow thank you for sharing , I imagine it must be infuriating.
Amen...
He's the Blaire White of disabled people.
Yes! I cannot stand that.
As a disabled person I do want to point out the clear inspiration porn of that whole "this country for which I stand" bit. It's something that is so soul crushing to see everytime.
I couldn't quite put my finger on why that bit felt so freaking uncomfortable/gross to watch. Now I know.
For me, it was the jingoism that made it awkward.
Yeah it made my stomach turn.
He's also not standing he's sitting
🥴🥴 oh god, you’re so right. Thank you for pointing that out.
The whole "reframe your goals" thing is life-changing, even if I haven't defeated the shame just yet (I'm a work in progress!)
Hope you are doing well :)
I think Madison Cawthorn is actually great for disability representation. He shows that disabled people are not these perfect angels come to teach a lesson. In fact, sometimes, a disabled person can actually be a really bad person.
Greg Abbott too
I think Abbott is a perfect example of why this sort of thing is bad, actually.
Him and Greg Abbott are a reverse FDR.

That's just it, though, most of us hate being used as inspiration porn. This arsehole is fully happy to take advantage of it. It's kinda disgusting.
He and his types of homeschoolers are why I and my son have to follow up, “We homeschooled,” with “but not like that. We’re not religious and actually used real history, science, and the world as our school.”

The workers compensation board is the devil. Allegedly.

It may not be their "official slogan", but it certainly is accurate.
It was so sad to see elderly Bob Dole lobby for the ADA only to have a Republican congress coldly vote against it.
And how parents can manipulate and brainwash a child (specially when they homeschool).

Seconded seconded three million times over! I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
It's so fundamentalist that I was basically self taught till I went to community College at 16
Now that Fundie Fridays is officially back up and running I would love to see a James video breaking down the HSLDA! It is THE nexus between fundamentalism, homeschooling, and politics, and it just gets more fucked up from there.

Whenever I hear Cawthorn, I get literal flashbacks to my homeschooled past. He and I are less than a year apart, and I was taught to think and speak exactly like he does. Only difference between us is that (1) I was raised Catholic (albeit in the Bible Belt surrounded by evangelicals) so my parents sent me to the Catholic equivalent of Patrick Henry instead;
(2) I am the exact opposite of a straight WASP man, aka an LGBT+ Hispanic female; and
(3) eventually I said "fuck it" and escaped those circles before they could hurt/subordinate me any more than they already did.
Thanks to the homeschool movement, I'll be carrying a giant load of emotional baggage with me for the rest of my life, along with a joke of a propaganda-heavy education that I will forever be struggling to make up for.
@@didograce3531 Wholeheartedly agree with your "blue in the face" statement! Have a great weekend!
@@randibgood Thanks! You too :)
How are conservatives born in the 00-Agents' Decade different from conservatives born within a decade's radius of '955?
@@dominicfucinari1942 Less homophobic for one. They also tend to care less about abortion.
Madison was born in 95 making him a millennial still
@@dominicfucinari1942 They essentially resemble the conservatives from the 60s - the “Goldwater Conservatives.” They weren’t religious, were pro gay rights, and against government mandated pregnancies. They were simply anti government intervention
US politics is basically just “lie about anything and see if you can get away with it” from what I’ve gathered from these videos
You are correct, sadly. Our second party is gutless, so we don't have that going for us, I guess.
You forgot the most important part: yes, yes you can.
Here's a tip: If a Repub accuses someone of doing something, the Repub has already done it. The GOP has a deflection infection.
you're not wrong 😂
Grifting is not just beneficial, it's MANDATORY to the process.
Glad to see that your channel is still standing.
And Madison Cawthorn is definitely the definition of a "Hot Mess".
What a disservice to the poor kids who need an education, no matter how obnoxious their parents might be.
@@abigailrandall7520 I second everything you say!
As a former college adjunct (4 different schools concurrently), I've had many veteran students with TBIs. They were the most tenacious and hard working students I've ever had and almost always earned As. Whattadickwad!
You all are just the most endearing people on RUclips, honestly. You talk about people who enrage the everliving bejesus out of me and somehow manage to make me feel all warm and fuzzy throughout. So glad all the Lawson crap got resolved. Thanks for all the work you do to put out such amazing content!
I am so fucking happy that you guys are back!!! You guys have helped me so much on my deconstructing journey!! Congrats on the engagement!!
I’m so relieved to see you all back. I was really upset and worried about what was going to happen: I’m so glad you prevailed and showed someone he’s not as important as he thinks he is/
"for lack of better phrasing, objectively kind of hot" unironically i felt so validated by this. like yeah he sucks but. he's VERY pretty. people would probably be less sympathetic to him being such a moron if he wasn't so pretty. also, like five years tops til he comes out as bi
Yeah, he is pretty, but holy crap he opens his mouth and I dry up like Death Valley. 😩
You sure. He's definitely straight.
Keep it up
I’m so happy your channel wasn’t deleted I’ve been here since 2019 and I would’ve actually cried
ALSO FIANCÉ OMG CONGRATS YOU GUYS!!!!
I hate that phrase too.
i wanted to point this out too, thanks for putting it into words!
thank you for this!! we have nothing to do with this....rip
This is good to know. Especially since those conservative christians are probably antisemitic too 😒
So Judeo-Christian comes from the fact that the basics of our religion are shared.
Just stumbled onto ya'll last week & I am addicted!
JAMES YOUR LOCKSCREEN IM GOING TO CRY. jen is so beautiful and you guys seem to have such a sweet loving relationship it warms my heart 🥰🥰
Seeing your growth as creative people, is inspirational. I needed this so bad after my stressful week.
You and Jen make me so happy. My sister and I were watching with bated breath while the strikes were up. Glad y'all prevailed!
I read that as “with Bates breath”
I need to get off Fundie snark for a min I think 😂
"my fiancee jen and i..." im crying i love y'all so much and am so happy for the both of you 😭😭
James, I just want to say that watching yours and Jens videos are the treat of my Fridays. I'm so glad yall are able to continue them!
Lol That is one of my favorite political campaign moments of all time and I never get a chance to bring it up, so thank God that Fundie Fridays is still alive and well.
thank you for everything you guys do on this channel! it’s a safe place to learn and be myself and i feel so safe in this community
@@nataliepaad1869 It's super weird when the whole classroom does it too, tbh.
I know several former Christian homeschool families who intentionally choose to leave out "indivisible" from the pledge. Do with that what you will.
@@gretchensmith2852 That's because "indivisible" is directed at the Confederacy.
“The Stone Cold dress shirt doesn’t just show up” 💀💀💀 We’re not worthy 🙌
King James, as always thank you for this magnificent deep dive into another corrupt republican politician.
Go for it!
You also have a nice memorable name, which, unfortunately, is important in American politics!
Good luck!
I am so glad y’all are back. I love the direction you’re going in and enjoy James’ politicians episodes.
I'm so happy to see you guys are still here! When you guys posted that you won I literally screamed with joy and told all my friends who liken my obsession with this channel with that of a wine mom's love for true crime.
I hate sponsorship promotion portion of RUclips videos and I usually skip over that part but yours was genuinely entertaining and I watched it all
"THE TESTOSTERONE LEVELS ARE LOWER-"
What I'm hearing is he agrees HRT needs to be more accessible for individuals with lots testosterone... Like trans men ☺️
madison said i get my testosterone for free
TBH I always wonder if conservatives could be made to support environmental regulations if they were linked to lower testosterone.
I am so happy to see y'all back, I didn't get to see that this was posted since youtube didn't see fit to notify me, but I'm glad to finally be here
King James having Jen as his wallpaper is the purest expression of love ❤️
It still baffles me how RUclips allows a creators to use false flagging while instead of punishment they are rewarded by in most cases earning all the ad revenue. This has to be stopped.
Most the creators are never held accountable or questioned about it. It really is gross.
The best way to combat these dbags is to NOT spend your social currency on these people.
It's just the classiest way and we know they won't be classy at all.
Welcome back, we missed you! And this may be the first time in decades that I willingly watched an ad. Love the well researched content. Keep it coming.
Hun... I'm an elder Millennial... turned 40 in April... graduated 2000...
@Elizabeth Moore that's more like gen X actually... I was born in 1988 so I'm an older millennial at 33...
I work in repro justice and voter engagement. Thank you for your message about civic engagement! We need y'all out here!
*David Madison Cawthorn* says men are weak & not manly enough because that's how he feels about himself and is only projecting. *150 former students signed a letter accusing him of being a sexual predator,* due to his behavior, prior to his car accident, which his friend said he also lied about.
So glad y'all are back! RUclips would be much sadder if the strikes went through. Much love to both of you!!!!!
Terrified to find out what that bill is gonna be 😰
Sorry for dumping my horror story in your comments, it's been a real heck of a day and I needed some air. Again so excited you guys got thru that whole strikes mess!!! Take this as my comment for the algorithm, hoping you guys get back from this stronger than ever!!!!
You, running around yelling “Daisy” and squeaking the dog toy is hysterical! I’m glad you got her back, safe and sound.
Oh that sounds so stressful! I'm really glad you got her back home safe and sound. ♥
Hopefully the estimate isn't as bad as you fear and you can get everything worked out without too much of a hit to your wallet.
So glad you found Daisy! And if you see this in time, and are able to pay cash for the tree service, they will usually cut a decent amount from the estimate. Just wait until they give you their price and then ask "what if I was able to pay cash?"
Sending hugs!
really appreciate the bit at the end where you talk about disability. really really appreciate it. thank you
So glad you guys are back
Hi Jen and James + co., today has been a rough day for me with my addictions (I relapsed with one but thankfully am hanging in there with my others) and I just want to say thanks for being a lovely community full of support and love, especially for people like me who grew up in fundie circles and had to break free of their awful toxicity.
