    As a returning player to Underworlds this was helpful to me, TY for compiling that into a simple video and for the links to the resources. Underworlds is a great game, but the deck building aspect put me off of playing tournaments because I could never seem to optimize my deck. I am looking at maybe trying tournaments now using the basic Rival decks.

    Brand new player here. This video is greatly appreciated as learning the rules and, moreover, the formats and legalities has been confusing.
    So when I bought the Elathain’s Soulraid box it came with two decks of cards. One very clearly belongs to the Idoneth but the other has a completely different symbol on the cards and don’t seem synergistic with the warband whatsoever. So you’re saying, in Rivals, I can mix any cards from any war band? So how is Nemesis different?

    • @AgentsofSigmar
      @AgentsofSigmar  Месяц назад +1

      For Rivals you can only use a single deck of 32 cards. This will be either the faction deck of your warband (The Soulraid cards) or a pre built universal rivals deck. (Currently any published from Gnarlwood onwards)
      The universal cards that came with your Soulraid are only useful for relic format (so not they useful).
      For Nemesis you can make a deck from the cards from a Faction deck and ONE universal rivals deck only (from the Gnarlwood onwards)

      Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊 If you want to stick to what’s “legal” you are limited by what rival decks are currently in rotation (as specified in the GW documents) but other than that you can use any rivals deck alongside your warband deck to make a nemesis deck 😊👍

    • @joncha-cha-cha1173
      @joncha-cha-cha1173 5 месяцев назад +1

      There are still rules on building a nemesis deck. Like AoS said, you take one warband deck and one Rivals deck (sometimes known as universal deck) and build the nemesis deck from the two decks. The other rule for building a nemesis deck is that no more than half of your objectives can be surges and no more than half of your power cards can be gambits, ie 6 surges max and 10 gambits max.

    Fantastic re-intro... I would like to pick you and your fans minds' though... my ONE issue with Underworlds is the dice... they... just.. are.. so.. swingy....
    is this just a fact that I have to accept... and just play knowing nothing is set in stone... and that's how it should be?
    I do feel like the new updates about activations help a LOT with a single charge that just flops when the dice go sideways... so is that enough of a reason to re-try Underworlds again?
    Or if the dice bother me that much, should I just stay away and collect the models purely to paint up when one warband catches my interest?

    • @AgentsofSigmar

    • @AgentsofSigmar

    Apart from gw saying so, is there any reason not to allow older universal rivals decks? The only thing I can think of is that the oldest ones from Harrowdeep aren't very efficient.
    I'd allow any rivals deck, just like any warbands.
    Concerning warbands it's the season 1 and 2 warbands that are tricky because they are only missing 3 objective cards...if only there was a way to update their decks.

    • @AgentsofSigmar
      @AgentsofSigmar  5 месяцев назад

      There is no reason really. Like you say, so far it has been self selecting, as before Gnarlwood the rivals decks were under-powered.
      It will be interesting to see if GW keep the same rotation pattern when decks like Tooth and Claw hit two years old.

      The warbands decks from the starter sets don’t use magic nor they come with Rivals decks that use magic, so you wouldn’t need to worry about not having magic dice. However, if you buy a starter set and then buy a stand alone warband outside starter/core sets, you can still use the non magic dice and swap the symbols for the magic symbols. I can’t remember which represents which but I think you can treat Hammer as Bolt and treat Swords as Swirls.

  • @TheWarder500

    Im still a little confused about the Nemesis Deck building. This is how i understand it to work, but im not sure if im correct. When you're building your custom Nemesis deck you get to pick cards from 2 decks, the 1st being the specific 'rival deck' that belongs to the Warband youve chosen . The second deck you can choose cards from is any 1 single "universal" 'rivals deck', and only 1 universal deck. From that 1 universal deck you can only use the cards in it that have a "universal" card symbol on them, which effectively only allows you to really pick from maybe 50% of the cards in the "universal" 'rival deck', since half of them or so are NOT "universal cards", but rather cards that belong to a specific faction. Is that the correct interpretation? I guess im just surprised you arent allowed to use any "universal card" from any "universal deck", as if they were just one giant pool of cards you could just draw from.

    • @CrusadiaIX
      @CrusadiaIX 4 месяца назад

      So the latter idea you described is one of the core reasons Nemesis deckbuilding works the way it does; it ensures new players aren’t required to spend potentially hundreds of dollars chasing down old cards to keep up with long time players. There is a format which uses every card in the game, though I can’t remember its name.

    • @AgentsofSigmar
      @AgentsofSigmar  4 месяца назад

      Sorry. Didn't see this notification until now.
      As CrusidialX says. There is a format that allowed a wider ranger cards under the "Relic" rules - Championship is a further subset of this that uses the last 2 years pool of universal cards.
      Whilst Championship has it's ardent adherents, Nemesis has become the most prevalent format because of its easy of access. Underworlds seems to attract more casual gamers and Nemesis format is the sweet spot for a lot of them.
      A little bit of tactical deck building without the continual card chasing associated with CCGs.

    • @CrusadiaIX
      @CrusadiaIX 4 месяца назад +1

      I would never have been able to convince so many of my friends to try Underworlds if it hadn't been for Rivals format. It's incredibly useful to be able to say "yeah it's all in the box" when usually tabletop miniatures games call for books and mats and terrain.

    • @TheWarder500
      @TheWarder500 4 месяца назад

      @@CrusadiaIX I realized after a while why I was getting so confused. I had bought a few larger box sets already and I failed to realize at first that only a few of the extra card decks that come in those box sets were actually “universal rival decks”. Most of the extra decks are just decks of lots of universal cards. After watching more videos I finally realized that they only release a handful of true universal rival decks each season, I think there only 5ish per season. So the total amount of universal cards you get to choose from is actually quite small, compared to the actual amount you end up collecting if you’re buying a lot of sets.

    • @AgentsofSigmar
      @AgentsofSigmar  4 месяца назад

      In the first 4 or so seasons the cards in the box were just universal cards rather than rivals, it’s only been since gnarlwood that the cards in the boxes have been specific rivals decks. I believe we did cover this in the video but maybe we could’ve made the distinction better but previous seasons are usually much harder to get hold of now due to limited print runs
