Renowned and beloved interior designer and tastemaker Charlotte Moss celebrates gracious hospitality-from assembling striking place settings and arranging the table to hosting a dinner party or simply serving an elegant afternoon tea.
Charlotte Moss inspires readers to imbue everyday life with elegance and romance. Moss focuses on events-as small as breakfast in bed or tea in the afternoon or as elaborate as a festive Christmas luncheon or large dinner party-and the artifacts of our lives (china, silver, linen) to create the backdrop for a life well lived.
Moss celebrates the day-to-day by bringing her enthusiasm and impeccable style to every domestic activity. Setting the table becomes a joy when putting together stylish combinations of place mats, monogrammed linens, china, tableware, curios, and flowers. From tasteful meals for one to grand occasions for friends and family, Moss chronicles her own aptitude for hospitality. Style icons are conjured for their entertaining savvy: Pauline de Rothschild for her pioneering tabletop decoration, Marjorie Merriweather Post for her organizational precision, Lesley Blanch for her introduction of exotic delights to the table, and Elsie de Wolfe for her always-right recipes. Butlers’ pantries are explored. Linen closets are catalogued. Flowers are collected from the garden and artfully arranged for a memorable meal. Moss invites you into her world to discover how to make everyday an occasion.

“Going with a simple blue/white” with table setting is such a true statement. I adore blue/white, I only wish I had more of it! I treat it as a neutral! It elevates everyday living. Loved this review Mary! God bless, John 3:16

Loved Charlotte Moss. her books are a winner in my opinion. A wonderful choice of authors this week. The curiosity shop was certainly different. Not quite Charles Dickens, maybe The Little Shop of Horrors I think. Take care until next week, always look forward to it.

Hi Mary. Loved the book review and actually bought her book the last time you reviewed one and will probably buy this one too. One gets lost in the pages of these type books and can dream the day away. The beautiful colors danced on the pages of her Tablescapes...eye candy for us ladies! Next week Mary ~👍🎃

That's a lovely book, and since I rarely entertain anymore, I'll pass on it... but in doing so, I'll also pass on a few of my own favorite (and unique) tips for a stylish and comfortable dinner with friends. 1) Cream/Ivory with black accented tableware is incredibly chic and more comfortable than black and pure white. It's also less common that the traditional blue and white, but equally versatile. 2) Reduce your dining table by two chairs and use only arm chairs throughout. I want my guests as comfortable as I am, so arm chairs for everyone! 3) If entertaining around a table is a common thing for you, consider switching the formal dining room and formal living room. Formal living rooms are rarely used, so why not have a larger dining room and a small but formal "receiving room" off to the side. Just remember, you'll need to spruce up the family room for larger gatherings, but it's worth it if dinner parties are your passion. Cheers... And Happy Dining!

Another great book review. Charlottes designs for home and table tops have always been a classic design with nothing left out. I did enjoy the shop tour and even found myself looking at pieces myself. Haha. It’s hard to find those shops here in Miami.

Charlotte seems to be a natural host, and I do especially enjoy this book.
This shop always reminds me of New Orleans. There was a lot to see, but I think the ventriloquists doll had the biggest "creep factor". I couldn't have that in my house.

That's funny- I'm just the opposite. The taxidermy (if done tastefully ) does not bother me. The ventriloquists doll looks like it might come to life and smother me while I'm sleeping.
