    A charming scene,-- but also an extremely ironic one. Audrey Hepburn needed to be taught "how to be lovely" about as much as Niagara Falls needs to be taught "how to be wet".

      Idk how i feel about remakes. The idea of making a remake/reboot comes off as “the original is outdated now” but i feel like people should go back instead. Certain films, and especially the songs, are timeless. Though on the flipside, I guess people will never forget the original. For example, I believe they could make a decent remake of back to the future but that doesn’t mean the OG loses its value.

    • @jamilabrownie
      @jamilabrownie 4 года назад

      I wouldn’t mind if they remade this. I feel this film suffers because Audrey simply doesn’t have the popes and there’s nothing funny about her face. Then there’s the age difference between her and Astaire... that being said she still has this ineffable charm and presence that despite all those faults really makes up for them. I love the beatnik dance! She looked so joyous. I could totally see Sutton Foster in this role.

      Yes, some people think Audrey was like Holly Golightly, but in fact she was much much more like Jo, she believed in dancing for the sake of happiness, she loved to read, she didn't believe she was really as beautiful as people said (which is sad really, she was very insecure), she was shy and all she ever wanted was to be loved.

    Loved Kay Thompson! Little known fact, that her and Fred Astaire did not get along while making this. There's a dance routine with both Kay and Fred, where he's on the ground spinning around dancing his ass off, yet you can't take your eyes off of Thompson. He wasn't used to someone else stealing focus from him, and Kay Thompson could. He didn't like that.

Maybe it took my getting older to truly realize what an _AMAZING_ _TALENT_ Kaye Thompson was! She was the perfect _triple threat,_ great singer dancer actress - great *GREAT* GREAT! Now that i’ve appreciated that, back to my #1 question .. are we _really_ expected
    to believe that Jo found Dick like, _IRRESISTIBLE?!_ When i was a kid i thought that Fred Astaire looked like a skeleton with skin stretched tightly across. i mean, brilliant dancing can only make up for so much! Sorry. .. Just LOADS of talent in this movie! 🤟🏼💞

    I watched this and my first thought was, "Audrey would make a good Lucy. . ." She'd be a pretty Lucy. And plus her face looks similar enough to Lucile Ball . . . she just might pull it off . . .

    She could sing very well. This was perfect for her somewhat lower voice. When they turned down May Fair Lady she could have done that without Marni Nixon.

      Audrey is an icon and one of my favorite performers, but Julie Andrews should have played Eliza Doolittle and much of that score is outside of Audrey's range. I still her love her in the film though.

      @@julescat1974 I adore Julie Andrews as a singer and as a person but if I am honest not so much as an actress. Their Adrey Hepburn was the better choice for me.

      @@julescat1974 She later did in Theatre. But at the time she wasn't nearly experienced enough as an actress to play Eliza Doolittle who is a fairly complex character in general. You also have to take into account she had only done 1 film at stage which was The Sound of Music.

    Sorry folks but I absolutely hate this scene.Actually,most of the film gives me the creeps. I’m sure most men feel the same way.Audrey is
    far too fey in this one,Fred too old and crusty and Kay Thompson has me running to the bathroom.The dark-room scene nearly blinds me
    and the final “S’wonderful” scene is painfully identical to “He Loves And She Loves”.It’s buried at the bottom of my collection.
