I had to head out to Whidbey today to pick up something I was buying from someone in Oak Harbor. Was excited to see Deception Pass as I haven't been out there for years. Laughed when I got there as it was COMPLETELY socked in with fog though there wasn't fog anywhere else - and again on the way back home. So thanks for this gorgeous video on a beautiful day so I could show my friends that live elsewhere how stunning the views are there!
I lived on Whidbey Island for 25 years before retiring and moving back to Oregon. I miss the island, the quietness, the birdlife, the slow pace. Sometimes I even miss the ferry which I rode to work and back home on weekdays.
I've been to some beautiful places in the western U.S. and this Deception Pass was definitely one of my favorites, lush forest and ripping Pacific Ocean current through it, topped by a spectacular arch style bridge high above the water. We walked the bridge and went to the beach on the west side of it on Whidbey Island and then walked the trail to the top from underneath the beach below. I have a friend with a home on the water in Oak Harbor and they were nice enough to let me use their house for a week with my wife and son. We took their boat under the bridge, the power of the waters current in Deception Pass is hard to describe, when going against the current the boat came on plane and showed 20mph on the speedometer but only 10mph on the gps. The water has heavy current with whirlpools that swirl around in several places, it could be a very dangerous situation in a small boat if you didn't know how to handle it. We also were treated to daily air shows by the fighter jets running drills out of Naval Air Station Whidbey.
We were just there with our family in July 2019. Love the beauty of this area. We have traveled from Indiana to visit four times now and discover more every time.. Thank you so much for this awesome video! The Sanders Family
I know in 2021 all Washington State Parks require a permit to fly in their parks. When you took this video did you need to get a permit to fly in the state park or did you take off from outside the park? Great video, BTW . Thanks!
This is ocean water, an inlet to channels around islands that lye along the coast of Washington state. However, when tides rise, the channel is like a river with 10mph speeds, and when the tide lowers, the water flow reverses direction, going 10mph in the opposite direction.
Wrong. This is water from the Puget Sound, the ocean is 80+ miles west of the bridge. The bridge connects two islands together, Whidbey and Fidalgo islands. Fidalgo connects via another bridge to the mainland.
@@robertcroan8638 you do realize the Puget sound is ocean water, the same ocean saltwater that's affected by ocean tides, part of the same ocean you're referring to, formally called the Salish Sea.
@@TomSpurlock Not worth arguing with you about it. Where do all the rivers run into in the Salish Sea? Rivers are not salt water, therefore the salt water is diluted ( called brakish), the ocean water has a higher salt content than the Salish Sea. Research NOAA's reports.

My beautiful Whidbey Island, WA where I lived since 1976❤.
A beautiful place. I’ve been there six times in the past nine summers. I’m amazed each time.

What a wonderful world
Beautiful.
We just filmed one at the deception pass bridge & state park but definitely not as cool as your drone shots. Looks incredibly beautiful.
